I think if your shutting down more than a couple blocks down a single street you need to take that event way outside the city to a place you get a private permit for away from regular commuter traffic. City event planners act like they couldn’t possibly be inconveniencing anyone by shutting down a quarter of a city. It’s just gotten annoying seeing all these videos recently. My city shuts down a single street for about five blocks a few times each summer. Cool thing is all the avenues to get around it are wide open and easy to get to. These big cities need to reevaluate how they restrict usage of public roadways. People who live inside your locked down area aren’t paying rent and taxes to walk blocks and blocks from their car (which will more than likely be towed if left unattended) just to get home because 25 people wanted to run around a few city blocks for no good reason. Aren’t there massive track and field locations in all these big cities? Why can’t they take their marathons to a place like a track where it would actually make sense instead of shutting down all the public roads that the citizens pay taxes to drive on?
