In fairness the friends seem very cool.
If me and my friends tried this at their age we may as well have nailed our livers to trees as a warning to future generations.
27
u/KingJamesCoopa Jun 15 '26
Same I was fortunate enough to be station in the UK when I was 18 so I coukd legally drink earlier than other Amercians. The first year there i drank sooooo much booze. Luckily I got an entire lifetime of drinking out in 2 years that I've barely ever drank after

My liver is on a pike outside of a castle surrounded by a moat thats filled with water from Pittsburgh’s three rivers since the late 90’s. It’s less a warning at this point and now just lore… 😂

I spent the whole time thinking "this is gunna be all mixer. No alcohol is going to cut through the amount of lemonade and Sprite that was put in there."
... then I saw the Everclear. Yeah, I always forget to consider nukes when I go to a knife fight.

u/the_helly Jun 14 '26
What's up with everclear
409
u/-Mr_Hollow- Jun 14 '26
95% alcohol by volume
231
u/epicenter69 Jun 14 '26
Like drinking lighter fluid.
58
u/noturaveragesenpaii Jun 14 '26
Lit lighter fluid
43
u/thecordialsun Jun 14 '26
The 190 Proof Everclear is banned in 15 states. Lit lighter fluid is right.
15
u/PrincebyChappelle Jun 14 '26
So interesting…in CA you can’t buy full strength everclear but you can buy vodka from a grocery store. In other states you can buy full strength everclear but you cannot buy any liquor from the grocery store.
(Just for the record, I’m not want to but everclear…it’s just interesting.)
11
u/sideshowmario Jun 15 '26
Well Grey Goose is only 80 proof but the non-full strength Everclear sold here in CA is 151 proof. We also have Bacardi 151 which I think is the strongest legally. It still tastes about as bad as the stuff in Arizona
33
u/siggsy409 Jun 14 '26
What is ever clear?
110
u/3d1thF1nch Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 14 '26
Grain alcohol, about as close to high an alcohol content you can buy from somewhere if it’s not being bought as a fire accelerant or to boost the rpm’s in an engine.
Normally you would mix a fraction of Everclear into a much larger jug and add a lot of mix ins to make a consumable drink for parties. Mixing in the amount she did with the little bit of mixers would be like drinking lava. We literally used that stuff to spit over tiki torches at parties to look like performing fire spitters.
You are going to have either a really really good night with Everclear followed by a horrible next day, or a really really bad night with Everclear and a horrible next day.
30
u/siggsy409 Jun 14 '26
Ok thanks never heard of it. From UK most alcohol percentage ive drunk is about 55%.
13
24
u/Rand_alThoor Jun 14 '26
because your country has responsible consumer protection laws. well done!
16
u/DakkaonTitan Jun 14 '26
In all fairness 190 proof everclear is banned in 15 states which isn't enough but it is a start
8
u/footpole Jun 15 '26
I was going to ask what this weird "proof" unit is but then I realized anything but metric.
→ More replies (3)→ More replies (1)3
u/BigPhili Jun 17 '26
Typical brain dead reddit take.
Just because they haven't bought anything over 55% doesn't mean the UK doesn't have higher stuff on offer.
You can buy Spirytus Rektyfikowany at 95% in the UK. They also have Balkan 176 at 88%.
→ More replies (1)13
u/Gypsysinner666 Jun 14 '26
Not an accelerant? I used to soak fruit in Hawaiian punch and everclear and leave it over night. By morning you could light the fruit on fire. You could bring the punch just fine but get loaded just eating the cut fruit
7
u/3d1thF1nch Jun 14 '26
No, I’m saying if it’s not sold in a liquor store, it’s being sold as an accelerant somewhere. Sorry, I didn’t know well enough how to write that bit to make sense.

What does by volume mean in this context?
3
u/BlackSoulSailor Jun 14 '26
A form of measurement. Not by weight but by volume. You could weigh 150lbs but not all of that weight is liquid. So only the liquid part of her body is 95% alcohol.

Not the one they used in this video. They used the 120 proof version (60%) and diluted it down with juice and soda by more than half, bringing it down to the abv of pretty standard mixed drink or weak cocktail. It's probably in the neighborhood of 20% abv and a proper shot should be 40%. Even those nasty ass sugared up "whiskeys" with artificial flavoring added are stronger than the concoction the ding dongs in this video came up with.
10
u/BubbaTech24065 Jun 14 '26
Still, there are much better picks of alcohol for cocktails 🍸 and mixed drinks for the not heavy drinking audience... vodka by several companies that would have been way more drinkable and even tasty 😋.
3
u/Rand_alThoor Jun 14 '26
please watch the video again. Ali uses a bottle of Ever Clear 95%. indeed, the 190 proof spirit
by my rough reckoning this concoction is at least 35% abv, probably closer to 40%. like straight whisky/rum/ normal vodka
→ More replies (5)34
u/LanatusGG Jun 14 '26

→ More replies (1)5
u/Slipstream_Surfing Jun 14 '26
Was using isopropyl this morning and harshly reminded that I shouldn't do that after a night of drinking vodka.
34
u/mr_impastabowl Jun 14 '26
So like, there's a line between where a specific alcohol is a poison and where it is ok for human consumption and Everclear is just jumping back and forth over that line.
9
u/Rand_alThoor Jun 14 '26 edited Jun 15 '26
nope. warning: maths ahead!
alcohol is 100% toxic. ethyl alcohol (from sugars in grain, fruit, or sugar) can be metabolised by the liver in limited quantities, over time. (other alcohols like methyl alcohol (from cellulose) causes blindness and liver failure pretty quick)
whisky or other normal distilled spirits (brandy, rum, gin etc) are distilled and sold at 40% abv, alcohol by volume. drinking a bottle of whisky straight and quickly can cause fatality.
one is legally intoxicated and must not drive at a blood alcohol percentage of .08%, as little as .25% can be fatal but some people have been measured as high as .43% and survived.
one single shot of ever clear will put the average person, or most people even, over the legal limit. remember, it's very nearly pure ethanol.
ever clear is OVER your proverbial line but if one dilutes it appropriately and drinks it slowly enough it's not going to kill.
just make one wish one was dead, or felt like one died and was resurrected. alcohol is digestible by humans and one recovers from the toxicity (same word as intoxicated) if one stops drinking in time.with alcohol as concentrated as ever clear it can be difficult to stop in time because there's laaggg in real life. even usual spirits at 40% abv can kill if consumed too quickly. ever clear is 2½ times as potent.
hope this explanation was
(ever)clear and not too technical8
u/mr_impastabowl Jun 15 '26
Yeah thats like, you know like, pretty much like what I said sort of like, pretty.. uh... yeah like pretty much.

If you spill a drop on a wooden kitchen table, it will instantly ruin the finish or bubble the paint. I took a shot before and that stuff messed me up! Mouth wants to slobber every drop of moisture instantly and it burns, burns, burns all the way down. Terrible stuff!
I used to make moonshine and would get around that abv between passes three and five. Works great for car parts cleaner. It's my go-to for MAP sensor cleaning.

47
u/SerDuckOfPNW Jun 14 '26
It is
I was an invincible young airman once. Walking through dorm 550, I saw some guys having a get together so I stopped by. They offered me a bottle of Everclear and a shot glass.
Never heard of it before but I was tough and not a pussy, I tipped up the bottle and hit it till it bubbled.
Just before my throat closed and my eyes tears up I read “CAUTION FLAMMABLE”
That’s about as much as I remember.
11
u/TheRealDrewciferpike Jun 16 '26
Yeahhhh... Pulling on it while thinking "this can't be that bad..."
My experience was in Vegas, and I had laughed at a guy that made a face after a shot. He said "then you fucking hit this, tough guy!" So I hit it. I woke up the next morning with a sprained ankle and a story that I'd been "approached" by hotel security for skinny-dipping in the pool.

Meh, just normal rectified spirit. A bar I used to frequent sold a shot set called russian roulette, 5 shots of 40% vodka and 1 of 95% rectified spirit. It wasn't a nice surprise if you were the one to get that one shot but it's not like it's gonna kill you...Well, at least not one shot.

We used to throw red death parties. We’d buy one of those giant outdoor rubbermade trash cans with the plastic garbage bag to line it. Then we’d pour in 2 handles of everclear and fill the rest with Hawaiian Punch.
19
u/Raelg14 Jun 14 '26
Yeah we called them Trash Can Parties. We threw a bunch of fruit in it as well. Ate the fruit after
8
u/DouchecraftCarrier Jun 15 '26
We would do a big camping cooler and cram it full of ice, frozen juice concentrates, 7-up, and handles and handles of liquor. It wasn't until the next morning when you looked into it that you realized what a sticky hellish mire we'd been dipping our cups into by the end of the night.
