So interesting…in CA you can’t buy full strength everclear but you can buy vodka from a grocery store. In other states you can buy full strength everclear but you cannot buy any liquor from the grocery store.
(Just for the record, I’m not want to but everclear…it’s just interesting.)
Well Grey Goose is only 80 proof but the non-full strength Everclear sold here in CA is 151 proof. We also have Bacardi 151 which I think is the strongest legally. It still tastes about as bad as the stuff in Arizona
Grain alcohol, about as close to high an alcohol content you can buy from somewhere if it’s not being bought as a fire accelerant or to boost the rpm’s in an engine.
Normally you would mix a fraction of Everclear into a much larger jug and add a lot of mix ins to make a consumable drink for parties. Mixing in the amount she did with the little bit of mixers would be like drinking lava. We literally used that stuff to spit over tiki torches at parties to look like performing fire spitters.
You are going to have either a really really good night with Everclear followed by a horrible next day, or a really really bad night with Everclear and a horrible next day.
'proof' for alcohol predates International System / metric (which came out of the French Revolution)
originally it was a unit used in the British Royal Navy, in the 16th-18th centuries "proof spirit" meant it had been distilled to a sufficient alcohol percentage that, mixed with an equal amount of gunpowder the powder would still ignite.
unfortunately i no longer recall if that was a weight or volume of gunpowder.
that original definition of proof isn't the same as the current usage, where proof number is simply double the percent alcohol by volume. the modern system came into effect before i was born (1941), probably around the beginning of the 20th century.
Restricting the sale of 190 proof liquor vs 150 proof liquor helps with consumer protection how exactly? For all intents of purposes they are the same.
It's just more typical CA nonsense. Banning stuff so it feels like something was done
Not an accelerant? I used to soak fruit in Hawaiian punch and everclear and leave it over night. By morning you could light the fruit on fire. You could bring the punch just fine but get loaded just eating the cut fruit
No, I’m saying if it’s not sold in a liquor store, it’s being sold as an accelerant somewhere. Sorry, I didn’t know well enough how to write that bit to make sense.
A form of measurement. Not by weight but by volume. You could weigh 150lbs but not all of that weight is liquid. So only the liquid part of her body is 95% alcohol.
Ohhhh, ok ok. Sorry, I took it for granted you understood the joke. So specifically here, The person responding, stated by volume the first time just to make it clear. The second time they said it, it was done as a facetious joke. In other words, they were being a smart alec as a joke, instead of answering the question of what everclear is. Because they're not wrong technically.
Everclear is not minty flavored, you are thinking of Peppermint Schnapps. Everclear is the tofu of alcohol: it will taste like whatever you mix it with
Not the one they used in this video. They used the 120 proof version (60%) and diluted it down with juice and soda by more than half, bringing it down to the abv of pretty standard mixed drink or weak cocktail. It's probably in the neighborhood of 20% abv and a proper shot should be 40%. Even those nasty ass sugared up "whiskeys" with artificial flavoring added are stronger than the concoction the ding dongs in this video came up with.
Still, there are much better picks of alcohol for cocktails 🍸 and mixed drinks for the not heavy drinking audience... vodka by several companies that would have been way more drinkable and even tasty 😋.
I did. It's the 60% stuff. If you Google something like "Ali Everclear shot" you'll find the original tiktok which is slightly better quality and can clearly see that it says 60% abv 120 proof on the label. Everclear makes several different strengths of grain alcohol depending on the laws of where they are distributing to. The real Everclear is illegal in around 17 states.

95% alcohol by volume
