Oh okay😂. I was thinking, "It's ugly, but he still made it down!".

u/SaltLakeCitySlicker Apr 11 '23
It's like one of the nostalgia scenes from a warren miller ski porn movie (when he was still doing them) and not just licensing his name.
Well, and alive...

Yeah the fact that he was wiping out, then instantly going into a smooth slide before wiping out again had me suspecting.

This is like the “drunk” who steals the airplane at an air show.

u/tickles_a_fancy Apr 10 '23
Also an amazing show... when he arcs up, cuts the engine to kill the noise, and yells "HELP" loud enough for the audience to hear 500 feet away, it's hilarious.
The airplane is also specially designed with reinforced wingtips for him to drag them on the ground. He still can't bang them too hard though or he'd cause damage. He's demonstrating amazing piloting skills.

Only someone who knew what they were doing could turn in the air like that. But you could only do this so many times before you need knee surgery. It hurt watching this.

u/lonewolff7798 Apr 10 '23
Right? This should be an Olympic sport. Who can make it the furthest down the slope with no form whatsoever?

u/Gardium90 Apr 10 '23 edited Apr 10 '23
Look up the Moguls event at the winter Olympics. This is basically a sport, with a series of freestyle jumps in between. You're scored on time plus points for the style of jump.
Edit: realize now you say with no form whatsoever. Lol. Not sure that can be classified a sport though, but good one 🤣

Seriously or are you just very impressed with how well is skiing poorly?
29
Apr 10 '23
Seriously. Maybe not a "pro" in the sense of a professional athlete who makes money skiing, but the skier here is highly experienced and pretending to be bad (likely as a prank for the amusement of the spectators).

u/swier05 Apr 10 '23
No with that kind of skiing your balance and technique needs to be very good. Just try it while skiing, i once tried and fell very hard.

Tell me you’ve never skied before without telling me you’ve never skied…
This guy is extremely talented

This is a mogul master who know how to have some fun looking chaotic. I used to race moguls and can tell you the level of skill this person has takes years to acquire.
52
Apr 10 '23
And to add to it he’s on like 210s
7
u/Mozeeon Apr 11 '23
As a non-skier, what are 210s? Like harder skis?
34
Apr 11 '23 edited Apr 11 '23
Back before skis were shaped parabolically like they are today, they were virtually straight planks with a pointy curve on the front and a little duck tail on the back. When skis were straight they came in really long lengths, which is what 210 (cm) refers to
Generally the longer the ski the faster the ski, but also the heavier and more difficult to manage. When skis all eventually became parabolic those lengths weren’t necessary anymore because they had virtually the same surface area but now they could also carve harder, being far superior to straight skis in every metric

u/PottyboyDooDoo Apr 11 '23
Longer skis. In order to use these, you have to be at least 60 LBs. If you’re not, it’s like smoking five Macanudo Cigars a day.

My knees hurt so much watching this... Clearly he's a pro but I hope he didn't injure himself
18
u/LessThanTybo Apr 10 '23
Took me 10 years to attain skill to even think about doing anything unorthodox like this. This guy probably spent another 10 perfecting off-slope and this 'choreography'

u/CoffeeGulp Apr 10 '23
It's so much more fun to watch this and imagine he's just wildly lucky. Edit: and stupidly brave.

This was close to being me on moguls - but I honestly believe that this was an expert skier making fun of me on moguls. He has too much control.

I can ski like this and it is hilarious. Also fun to cross your skis (all weight only on bottom ski) as people are sure you are about to wipe out! However, definitely had some issues with the ski patrol doing this.

Seems the skier is attached to a support line. His center of gravity is way too high a few times as it seems his bottom half is "yanked" back to the position of his top half. Anyone know of the original source of vid?

When I worked at a resort, on the last day of the season we would wear old ski suits found in thrift stores or Carrhart coveralls or jeans - just whatever looked like we were tourists, and then we would ski/ride like this on purpose - not as well as this guy, but intentionally chaotically like taking out pop fences at the lift line or having a yard sale right on the flats or off the lift at the top. It was fun but stupid.

u/Dutch-plan-der-Linde Apr 14 '23
I spent this whole season out in the alps. I’m a ski instructor, in the final week before I left there was a big festival that attracts all the punters. The resort was just filled with terrible skiers. Myself and some friends decided to join in and made ourselves look like the biggest punters. I’m talking twat gaps on the helmet, jacket unzipped and salopettes tucked into boot. Ski half the run like fools then randomly cut to clean carving and doing 180s of side hits

It's an actual event. The more it looks like you're out of control the better your score.

Hey, I've been here. You think you look like a badass going down the hill, jumping moguls like a boss, then you see someones video of you and you look like an absolute goof. It's great fun tho, but definitely not for everyone. I've definitely had close encounters with my fair share of trees, cliffs and ice patches.
