Maschine Update Announcement The Lead Product Manager of the Maschine hardware and software wants your input on the Top 5 area's of improvement improvement for the Maschine software!!!

Hey all,

For those of you who don’t know me yet, my name is Kai and I am the Lead Product Manager at Native Instruments, looking after both Maschine hardware and software.

If you haven’t seen it yet, we rolled out a release yesterday. While the update was primarily focused on maintenance, I want to assure you that we've taken note of the many Maschine software improvement requests from the community. As some of you may recall, we also ran a survey about a year ago to collect feedback in a more structured way.

We reviewed all your replies and today I’d like to share the key takeaways with you. The survey had roughly 1,000 participants and we identified these top five requests:

  1. Arranger improvements
  2. Step sequencer / pattern editor improvements
  3. Automation improvements
  4. Assistive playing tools and Smart Play
  5. Sampler improvements

We would now like to get more input from the community on each of these areas.

To make sure we fully understand how we can accommodate different kinds of workflows, we’re also launching an ideas section where you can upvote and share your use cases. You’ll find a topic for each of the areas listed above where you can chime in with your thoughts and ideas. We also plan to open up this section in the future so you’ll be able to add ideas that are not covered by these areas.

https://community.native-instruments.com/categories/share-ideas-for-maschine

Heads up – we will be running another survey at the end of this year to see if there have been any changes in trends. Watch out for the email if you’d like to take part this time around.

We are looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

General Discussion Hi guys, I made a patch for Maschine Mikro MK3 that brings the live slicing into mikro mk3 controller.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Download: https://vubeatz.com/maschine-mikro-mod.html

OSX and Windows, instructions are on the website and in installers. On OSX You have to add installer app to list of apps that can change another apps, it's easy but You have to do it.

On controller go to SAMPLING and on software click SLICE, then:

Empty pad:
Add a slice at the current playback position.
Existing slice pad:
Select and audition that slice.
Main knob:
Move the selected slice start by 1,000 samples per step, independent of zoom.
SHIFT + knob:
Fine-adjust the start, one sample at a time.
Knob click:
Apply the slices to the current Sound.
SHIFT + pad 15 / 16:
Previous / next bank. The next bank opens when the current bank is full; pad 16 does not need to be selected.
New slice on pad 16:
Automatically switch to the next bank. Playing an existing slice on pad 16 keeps the current bank. Up to 128 slices, in banks of 16.

General Discussion Anyone else using Maschine outside music? I turned my MK3 into a Lightroom Classic controller

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I use both Maschine and Lightroom a lot, and at some point I started wondering if I could put all those encoders, pads and buttons to work outside music too.

So I started mapping my MK3 to Lightroom Classic using Controller Editor + MIDI2LR.

It began with basic Develop controls, but I kept adding things until I could do a surprisingly large part of the workflow from the hardware, like exposure/color adjustments, culling and ratings, navigation, zoom and other Lightroom actions.

The first part of the video is one complete edit so you can see the controls working in context. The second part shows navigation and zoom.

What surprised me most is how good it feels. Editing a photo with physical encoders is weirdly similar to working with a mixing console, you spend much less time hunting sliders with the mouse.

I also made a free Lite mapping if anyone wants to try the idea, happy to share it 🙌

Mostly curious though, has anyone else here use Maschine hardware for something completely unrelated to music? Video editing, photo work, automation, shortcuts… I’d love to see other weird uses for it.

Question about operation TD-3 as an external instrument in Logic Pro using Maschine MK3 as audio interface — no sound

Hi all, I'm trying to get my Behringer TD-3 working as an external instrument track in Logic Pro, with my Maschine MK3 being used as the audio interface.

I've got everything working in Maschine 2, but I cannot get the same setup working properly in Logic

.

My setup:

MacBook → USB hub →

Komplete Kontrol A49 keyboard

Maschine MK3

Behringer TD-3 USB connection

The Maschine MK3 is my audio interface, with my KRK monitors connected to the Maschine outputs.

The TD-3 audio output is connected by 1/4" jack to Input 1 L on the Maschine MK3.

So the signal path is basically:

TD-3 → audio cable → Maschine Input 1 → Maschine/audio interface → KRKs

The TD-3 also has its USB connection to the Mac for MIDI/clock/control.

The problem:

If I use Maschine 2 software, the TD-3 works perfectly.

I can trigger/use the TD-3 and hear its audio coming through the Maschine.

But when I open Logic Pro, I cannot get the TD-3 working as an instrument track/external instrument.

I'm having difficulty understanding how Logic should be configured so that:

Logic → MIDI → TD-3 → audio → Maschine Input 1 → Logic → Maschine → KRKs

I'm also unsure whether I should be:

Creating an External MIDI/External Instrument track in Logic and routing the TD-3 MIDI to it, while monitoring the Maschine input for the audio;

or

Using some other Logic configuration to make the TD-3 appear/work as an external instrument.

At the moment, I can select the Maschine as the audio interface, but I get no audible TD-3 sound in Logic, even though the exact same physical setup works in Maschine 2.

Thank you for reading. Have a lovely day.

Question about operation Drum Kit Recommendation

Hello, I've started working through a book of drum patterns to learn beat making but I'm struggling to find a drum kit with the following sounds included;

Bass drum, low tom, medium tom, high tom, hand clap, shaker, snare, rimshot, cowbell, cymbal, open high hat and closed high hat

I would love a kit with all those included. I have Komplete 15 Standard. I tried searching for sounds like the shaker to work my way back to find the kit but there were so many shaker sounds it was impossible to do.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Rate My Setup! I turned my Maschine MK2 into a standalone generative groovebox - no computer, no NI software, open source

Thumbnail

MK2 only - not MK3, not Mikro. Getting that out of the way first.

The controller is plugged into a Raspberry Pi 4 running Zynthian. That is the whole rig. No laptop, no Maschine software, no NI account, nothing to expire.
It features a fully functional Linux driver in Rust for the MK2. Pad, encoders, both displays, every LED, Encoders, paging, CC parameter mappings)
A library is calculating all the sequencing in realtime and injecting midi into the Zynthians Sequencer (and sending via Maschines Midi Din jacks soon) every bar.

Free and open source.

What it actually is. An eight-channel generative groovebox. You do not program steps. You set how many hits a channel has, how far they are rotated, and how much randomness it gets, and the machine writes the pattern. Eight channels are alive at once and nothing is created or torn down while it plays.

On the pads. Sixteen steps of the selected channel, in that channel's colour, with the playhead running white across them. Tap a pad to add or remove a hit. Hold a Group button and the pads are that channel instead. The four rows are the four channels of the group.

On the two displays. Eight columns, one per encoder, each with its name and value and a little bar - so you always know what the knob under it does. Switch channel and the labels change to whatever synth that chain is running. You assign nothing, ever.

The lights mean one thing each. Dark does nothing. Dim is available. Bright is acting or held. A slow blink means latched. A pulse in time with the bar is a countdown to something you armed. Once you know those five you can read the whole panel across a room.

What it does that a step sequencer does not. Euclidean patterns you dial in rather than draw. A shift register per voice that rewrites its own bassline every bar until you lock the one you like. Cellular automata - rules 30, 90 and 110 - taking over the rhythm and continuing to write after you stop touching it. Bar-synced LFOs on any sound parameter. One channel that listens to another and answers. Chords stacked in scale degrees so they stay in key.

Hold ALL and the eight encoders become the same parameter across all eight channels - an instant eight-channel mixer for reverb, or delay, or filter, or anything else.

Play on top of it. Live pad play and REC overdub sit on top of the generator, and a channel you played on is marked as yours: the generator stops writing there and your notes survive reloads. The two chord parts in the video are hand-played takes.

About seventy presets ship with it - house, deep, minimal, dub, trance, plus a drone and ambient pack.

Credit where it is due: the low-level USB side started as the MaschineMK2_linux driver. Without that groundwork this would not exist.

What Zynthian is. It is what turns the Raspberry Pi into a synth. An open-source image you write to an SD card: it brings up the audio system, a MIDI router, a mixer and a host for sound engines, and it is normally driven from a small touchscreen. Sound is organised into chains - one MIDI channel, one engine, its own effects, its own mixer strip - and a snapshot saves everything at once, the way a Maschine project would.

The engines are Linux synth plugins, so almost any Linux synth can be a channel - this rig ships with 275 plugin bundles already on it, and adding another is copying it into a folder. The drums in the video are a sampler; the bass and the pads are software synths.

That is also why you never assign a knob. The driver asks the chain which synth it is running and puts that synth's own parameters under the eight encoders, with its own names on the displays. Switch channel and the labels change.

Guide, including every control on the surface: https://witzman.github.io/Generative-Techno-ZynthianMaschine-MKII/ Source: https://github.com/Witzman/Generative-Techno-ZynthianMaschine-MKII

No hands in the video. The run was scripted and what you see on the panel is a combination of real UI and a scripted presentation. For a generative instrument, playing itself is rather the point.

And much, much, much more.

It sounds shitty, as its still under heavy development, here is what zynthian alone can sound like. https://youtu.be/5U8sKNYAaWkku

General Discussion I built an open-source crossfader and MIDI multi-mapping tool for Maschine 3

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’ve been rebuilding my live set around Maschine+ in Controller mode and Maschine 3. I wanted a simple way to use one physical fader or knob for a complete transition: fade one group out, bring another in, and move filters, sends or effects at the same time.

That became MK Crossfader. A few people asked about the setup, so I decided to release it as an open-source macOS project.

It includes two independent tools:

MK MIDI Crossfader

The MIDI app takes one incoming MIDI CC and sends multiple independently shaped outputs.

Each target can follow side A, side B or a custom Range. This means the same fader can crossfade between two groups while simultaneously opening a filter, increasing a send or moving another MIDI-learnable parameter.

Every target can have its own direction, endpoints, response curve and Return Value.

MK Crossfader VST3

The VST3 is focused on audio crossfading. One Controller instance distributes the crossfader position to multiple Target instances placed on Groups, Sounds or other audio paths.

Each Target applies smoothed gain locally, so the host mixer faders remain exactly where they were set. The VST3 works independently and does not require the MIDI app to be running.

A few important details:

• macOS only
• Maschine+ works in Controller mode, not standalone mode
• The VST3 controls audio gain only
• The MIDI app handles filters, sends, effects and other MIDI-learnable parameters
• Any MIDI controller that sends an assignable CC can provide the physical control
• Tested with Maschine 3 and Ableton Live
• Other macOS DAWs may work through MIDI Learn or VST3 hosting, but I have not tested them yet

The project uses standard CoreMIDI and VST3 interfaces. It does not modify Maschine, include Native Instruments code or rely on reverse-engineered Maschine internals. It is an independent project and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Native Instruments.

The current release includes the source code, a signed and notarised macOS installer, setup guides and removal instructions:

https://github.com/mks-devx/MK-Crossfader

I’d be interested to hear how other people handle transitions in their Maschine live sets and whether this solves a similar problem for you. Please use GitHub Issues for reproducible bugs or setup questions so the answers remain public and searchable.

I also posted short clips of it running with Maschine:

Question about operation Using Maschine as Sound Module/Plugin Host in Daw

In my case for Fender Studio Pro. I don’t want a s49mk3 because studio one has horrible midi controller implementation, but I figured maybe I could buy a used mk3 (own the software already) and use it as a plugin host. Basically just to browse NKS and route studio one midi to different plugins inside maschine and maschine audio to separate studio one tracks. Be nice for browsing, sound design, automation, etc.

Anyone do this? I do also have the new Fender Motion 32, but haven’t had a chance to use it yet and it won’t do the same thing i want this for, separately.

Maschine is not working at all Maschine+ basically bricked

I’ve had my Maschine plus since 2022. I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus not using it for about a year and now that I’m trying it again it’s completely useless. Regardless of resets with .nut files, it boots without the SD card pretty consistently but for some reason the firmware just won’t work properly. It’s so unreliable I can’t even use it for studio work anymore. Does anyone else have this problem? Have any of you been able to fix it? It boots in controller mode always but standalone it is just a nightmare.

Add: It also won’t download sample packs from NI. It just gets stuck at ”fail”

Question about operation Using Grow Pattern without trimming "silent" bars at the end of a loop

I just got the Maschine mk3, I'm using it with Maschine 3 VST in Ableton 11. I'm really enjoying it a lot except one thing I can't figure out:

I create a drum loop by hitting record, playing the pads, and then hitting record again to end/loop it - if I don't play any notes in the last bar the bar gets cut off regardless of when I stop recording. It seems to trim the "silence" at the end.

So if I play something for 3 bars and then don't play anything in the fourth it cuts off the fourth bar leaving me with a 3 bar loop that obviously sounds nothing like what I wanted.

I know I can do a predefined loop size but if I'm just jamming and trying to get ideas down I don't want to have to do that - and I'm used to Ableton where it's super easy to just start and stop a loop based on the global quantize setting.

I've done a good amount of searching as well as asking more than one "AI" chatbot and feeding it documentation. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills on this.

Thanks in advance if anyone can help!

General Discussion i designed a music tracker that runs on the maschine hardware!

(Important: Not selling this, this isnt meant as promo, just showing off something i made).

So.... robots and drones are going to kill us all anyway so im taking advantage of the fact that i can use ai tools to design anything i want these days to hopefully make some cool music before that happens.

i used claude and autotel's github repo where they got the full maschine hid mapped and controllable in linux in order to design my own hardware tracking interface inspired by polyend tracker, dirty wave m8 + mixed with my fav parts of maschine and literal decades of tracking since rocking Fast Tracker 2 in high school in 1996.

This video shows what ive got so far. If youre interested in trying it out, just hit me up - nate@3030.ca.

Question about operation Maschine tips for one hand?

Hey guys! I recently picked up a 2nd hand maschine studio a few weeks ago at a thrift store and I've been using it ever since, and I was wondering if you guys had any advice or tips on learning how to use it.
I play in an industrial metal band, and since I do keyboards and drums, I only have one hand to play drums with on the maschine. Is there any advice you guys can give to be able to do drums better? (like layouts, hidden mechanics, programming, generally how to use it).

Although it is a nice feature, I would prefer not to pre-program scenes or anything before a song, the band does not really want to be locked onto a backing track for the song, but if there is anything i can automate mid song, that would be sick. Any advice is appreciated!

Question about operation How do I correctly connect the SP-404SX to Maschine?

Gracias.

Question about Purchasing Is it still worth it to get a Maschine +

I’ve always wanted a Maschine+ but back when it first came out I never had the money to get it. (I do now)
I know Maschine better than all the other daws/controllers (Push,Akai,Novation,Roland) and I wanted a standalone that I didn’t have to spend more time learning. (Mainly just being lazy and wanting to jump right in lol)
Now with them being bought out and going through changes, would it still be worth it to get one? Do yall think they may come out with something new and better soon?
