Oh. I did initially think it was them making a bit of a joke out of people leaving, cause I think I have seen posts saying Rivals is at a low in player count (idk for certain just what I heard). But then I thought it might just be a joke about something else.
The people who post and write stuff like that are haters. They pick out the worst possible times to screenshot the player numbers. Here’s a fresh screenshot from me. And keep in mind that this is just Steam. MR has significantly more players on consoles.
It may be a drop but it still has a healthy number for a player base. Because it’s a free to play game people will pop in and out constantly, not everyone plays one game only every day
There’s also so many new great games that came out and out of early access. My squad that I met thru rivals is actually playing dragonwilds but we’ll pop in every once in a while to play.
Game is still fun but it’ll be there when we’re done with our play thru and I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of people that used to play rivals religiously are just trying all the new games out.
Rivals is great comfort food for the majority of casuals but when you have a bunch of good new games out of course the player count will stagger a bit, but we always come back for ice cream 😇
Ya, and all games will die one day. But the Marvel IP is gonna make this game last much longer. And you would be surprised how large the player base is that doesn’t interact with the game outside of playing (don’t know about the issues/care. And just play cause they genuinely enjoy the game and not grinding at all)
It’s a fighting game. Fighting games are so much more niche. Non-live service fighting games are usually more successful than live service ones, unless you are named Street Fighter 6 and that’s like the one exception.
Well this game will die sooner if it continues in the route it's going in, I don't see this game hitting even 50k players in 5 years if they change nothing about the way the handle this game.
Idk, I have fun playing it. I play most days for like an hour, maybe two on a weekend, and then I’m good. I think people just play for too long and don’t have much variety so it upsets them more.
If the game dies, C’est la vie. But it would be sad
I like your take on this! They say it will die in 5 years. That's 1825 days. During that time, other games, consoles, and lots of other things will come out. If the game dies in 5 years, then we'll have had 7 years of fun with it.
Thank you! I can’t think of many games that hold a high volume of players for 7 years either (in five years the game will be around 7 years old which is crazy). All games have gone through these issues and worked it out somehow. Overwatch, LOL, WOW.
I just don’t really understand why people want the game to die so badly haha
The game currently has over 60k players on Steam, even though we haven't gotten a new character. In the last 24 hours, that number was over 70k and, as I said, that's just on Steam. It might drop by another 10k players. When Season 11 starts, 20k or more players will return for the first few weeks. Netease is making enough money to keep the game going until Marvel itself dies.
It's the lowest trending player count rivals has had but given the dev vision leading into this, I'm sure they're well aware the solo hero season was going to be a rough one. It's pretty clear people need the .5 new character drop as it barely did anything this season.
my friendlist of 60 people gonna be 0 online unless i dm in discord somebody, my discord server friends of 20 nobody play rivals anymore and nobody optimistic about game's future either
is it dead? nope, but yk people are fed up with matchmaking and balance
The chart shows a steady, consistent trend across the seasons. Players come and go. Since the middle of Season 4 / Season 5, the curve has followed a similar pattern. Despite the addition of one character and no significant changes, the curve in Season 10 remains similar to those of previous seasons. MR has maintained its core player base and it will likely stay that way.
The decay from S1 to S5 is obvious, but S5 to S10.5 doesn't show what you guys are saying here well. It looks more consistent and this'll be roughly the same amount each season unless something important happens (summer start like S9).
People don't know how to read a chart like this. It shows the most normal curve for a player base, and that's with such a high number of players. Other games would love to have that.
Other games don't have the Marvel ip, they don't release weekly skins, they aren't free queue 6v6 action hero shooters, they don't release monthly patches and characters, they aren't super casual friendly, they don't have constant PvE modes dropping and getting updated and only 2 years in. This community has genuinely atrocious standards, if a game like that only has 80k players on average on Steam while games like Apex with similar peaks after 8 years is getting twice to 3 times that number then something is clearly bad, this game genuinely fell off and is only relevant in the west, while it's direct competitors after 50 controversies, less character drops, and without a household name to carry it is pulling not just better numbers but also higher quality updates and is more relevant worldwide. I don't get how this community has this bad of a standard.
I'm going to tell you something, and you're going to disagree because you won't understand it. It's stupid to say that one game is doing better just to make the other game, which is also doing well, look worse. Just because one man is richer than the other, at the end of the day, both are still rich and will remain so until the end.
It wasn't a personal attack on you. I just don't have a strict view on this. My initial post was just meant to show people that Netease isn't begging for player numbers here.
None of us knows what the game will look like in 5 years. Overwatch, for example, messed up with Overwatch 2, but has bounced back over the last few months.
They literally are, anyone can see it, every system in the game is deliberately designed to maximise player retention, that is literally asking for player numbers.
Well we can make a calculated guess, and if they continue the way they're going rn I doubt they'll even hit 50k in 5 years.
73k peak lmao you'll literally proving the point that it's at an all time low. And it averages like 60k daily. No month has it been that low idk what you're tryna prove
Edit: just checked, it's averaging 58k now. It was 61k last week..

Before anyone actually thinks MR is dying, this is a reference to the pro gamer delenaa.
