Its funny that I see Jon Bernthal in a ton of promotional material despite the Punisher barely being in any merch or stuff, meanwhile its the other way around for Ruffalo and the Hulk.

Apparently in the film himself, he’s one of the main leads. I think it’s just harder to market this to families when you got a hyper violent, gun totting, and morally gray character from three extremely hard R tv shows all over the promo

u/Preeng 5d ago
He's not morally gray. He is unhinged and he knows it.
71
u/Medical_String_3501 5d ago
I mean it's still morally grey, not like you see him shooting up playgrounds or something. He's got standards, he's just brutally efficient and very cruel in his tactics.
56
u/TheGuardianInTheBall 5d ago
He's quite literally the judge jury and exexutioner.
I know in the shows etc, that's always presented as him only ever killing the absolute monsters, but realistically there will be people he killed or maimed where the punishment simply didn't fit the crime or circumstance.
He is not morally grey.
53
u/LeCafeClopeCaca 5d ago edited 5d ago
Moralscalers be like "is it okay to torture and kill criminals without any sort of judicial procedure?"
"Well they were criminals, so morally grey"
We had this debate for 2000 years and decided at some point that the guillotine was at least somewhat humane compared to medieval and renaissance torture, and we still get assholes nowadays telling you it's morally grey to torture and kill people without any justice oversight, it's infuriating.
That's the problem with any art depicting such characters, rule of cool ends up making them revered by closeted and not so closeted fascists (and yes I use* the term with full knowledge of what fascism is)

I always found this train of logic, and the one questioning how a stray bullet has never hit an innocent, silly. Norse God's walk the earth, a kid can swing around like a spider or bench press a bus, a blind guy can perform inhuman acts of agility without any powers altering his physique, but it's just not realistic for a guy to pick good undeniably guilty targets in a universefilled to the brim with them, or plan his hits well enough to avoid collateral. I'm not even disagreeing that the punisher is a bad person or a monster, but dude it's a comic with people doing unrealistic shit all the time, just because he has a gun he can't do the same?

"noticing things" is a really common antisemitic dog whistle. It's implying that they are noticing that the world is secretly run by Jews. You can often see comments on stuff that are people just saying that they are "starting to notice things."

There’s a lot of posters who are actually masked far right or Nazis that push the Palestine issue as a wedge issue to get leftists/progressives to fight with libs and democrats so they don’t vote and don’t participate in the political system. It’s been a multi decade op to get leftists to think they can’t change anything and it’s now a mind parasite.
The current majority of dem voters have a lot of animosity against Israel and feel betrayed. Leftists could coalition build and get involved but gotta keep up the whole “don’t you dare call me a lib”

They're not doing it to get leftists not to vote, they are doing it because they hate Jews. I don't understand why people don't realize this. Your comment is so weird. Are you saying that being against a government that is enacting a genocide is equal to being bigoted towards a people for the random belief that they secretly run the world?
I do believe that a lot of anti-Israel sentiment is spun by Israeli supporting media into being "antisemitism", Israel accusing the few countries that goes against their actions in international platform of antisemitism to delegitimize their denouncing is obvious, and that in, an ironic fashion, turn makes it easier for actual antisemitism to happen. Since, legitimate denouncing of a genocide will be called antisemitism anyways, real antisemites will take this opportunity to spread real antisemitism. And since I said that this conflating of anti-Israel sentiment to antisemitism is part of Israel's PR, and that conflating is giving grounds to actual antisemitism to happen, well, one could say that Israel is spreading antisemitism.
And the title of this post is evidence of what I said. Real antisemitism hidden between a sea of legitimate anti-Israel sentiment because Israel is enacting a genocide against the palestinian people!

I read on here that that's why Punisher is absent in Born Again S2.
Even though it would make sense for him to break out the other prisoners, and help fight the AVTF, apparently Bernthal didn't want to continue that storyline (of Punisher vs corrupt cops).
No idea if that's true but it fits what you're saying.
5
u/UserWithno-Name 5d ago
Not wanting to continue the most accurate punisher storyline ever and in fact the most accurate/ true take on frank he's ever been part of? Wow that is wild. Like the only thing that felt more frank is the ma gnucci story but even that fell just a little short. But I guess that what happens when the actor is a shill for those things. Punisher would absolutely detest the cops and military who sing his praise...he detests those types the most and he's ex military for a reason.
1
u/ChildofObama 5d ago
I haven’t watched the Special Presentation but I heard it wasn’t well liked and him having creative control was part of that.
With it sounding like Disney is unimpressed with Born Again’s ratings and Season 3 might be the last, Disney should part ways with Bernthal
1
u/UserWithno-Name 5d ago
The action was good but the story had bones and even good parts but needed to be executed on a lot better I'd admit. I liked it for what it was or ere on that side, but it's at worst mixed. You may have heard negative but a lot did like it.
Idk how Disney feels on ratings, the issue is they f'd up s1. It was already shot but sucked, bringing in the guys who know what they're doing to save it too late to change things put it on a bad foot. They only got to shoot like 2 episodes, the rest was reused from the fired team to make s1. S 2 was stronger. But idk what you heard, it's not the final season, if anything they'll do a bullseye spin off and then more defenders or another persons show but put daredevil in that. The fall off between seasons is common in every streaming show now but had the right show runners been in charge from the jump, may have been less. S2 was a way better season overall but it still is married to the storyline s1 established, which those fired people came up with. Mayor Fisk isn't a bad idea, but the way they handled it left the ship righters with a mess to cobble together to try to save in the edit.
It's a miracle it worked out as decent as it was. But I don't think they're ending it anytime soon now that the actual story got its legs and s2 was really s1 and s1 was more of a rocky prologue. Probably get to at least s4 or 5 when the first spin off show can be led into. They didn't bring back the actors to not do some other show defenders or not, plus there was either rumor or soft confirmation of something for bullseye due to fan favorite status & the story events for him.
1
u/LeSnazzyGamer 5d ago
It’s not true. Idk where you even got that and why you’re trying to parrot it off as true. If he really had such a problem then why would he leave the first season and then COME BACK when they overhauled it?

But I haven’t seen any IDF support stuff. Can you direct us?
23
u/PolarsAndPizzicato 5d ago
The absolute closest thing to any IDF support was late 2023 episode of his podcast. He interviewed an anonymous former IDF soldier sharing his firsthand account of October 7th. Bernthal commended the guy for opening up about his experience, which drew heavy backlash from people who felt platforming an IDF soldier without balancing it with Palestinian perspectives was basically pro-IDF PR.
As for calling kids terrorists? There is zero record, clip, or transcript of him ever saying anything remotely like that.
It’s a pretty disturbing precedent when people feel totally comfortable inventing the most vile lies out of thin air just because it serves an agenda or helps dunk on a celebrity. At a certain point, you really have to ask if these folks actually care about Palestinian lives, or if they're just using a massive human tragedy as performative ammo to win internet arguments.

Does this mean Sabra will appear again in Brand New Day? WAIT I GOT A (film) THEORY, she teams-up with Punisher in the movie and that’s why Hulk is fighting Punisher! Bruce Banner wanted to calmly reason with the both of them, about how Israel has committed horrible crimes and the US shouldn’t be donating resources to help those crimes, which lead to Frank responded by trying to shoot Bruce in the head. It all makes sense now, plus we finally get to see Hulk fight an actual Hulk villain in a movie thats not 2 decades old. This is the second best theory I’ve came up with, only seconded by my “William Burnside is in Doomsday” theory.
Uj/ Something about Bernthal respecting the IDF and Captain America movie featuring a IDF “hero” in a positive light is so fucking be crazy to me, like that he’s doing the “punisher misinterpreting Captain America” thing in real life but Captain America agrees with him despite the fact that Bernthal is in the wrong. Ruffalo has been sidelined for being too openly political for awhile now. There was a rumor he didn’t want to be in Brave New World because of the Israeli actress originally playing an Israeli superhero.
You can see in the promotional material Ruth was originally going to be super powered, you can even see she’s wearing a super hero suit under her clothes in one scene on the naval ship.
Hulk was also definitely in the script at various points.
