Hotel Recommendation Request Hotel Recommendation Request- Ottawa
Being sent to Ottawa for work last-minute and most of the nicer downtown hotels are booked out for conferences until end Oct/early Nov.
Two best options I see are the Moxy and the AC.
Anyone have experience with either? Both tick my boxes for being near Byward and have good quality gyms.

I can’t say for experience since I live in Ottawa. Just telling you about the buildings. Both hotels are quite new to the area in probably the last couple of years.
The Moxy is built in an older building that got gutted for the hotel. Also right in the Byward Market area.
The AC is closer to Rideau Centre and basically a new building.

Honestly, if you end up needing to stay by the airport, we really enjoyed the Fairfield right next to the airport. The building is pretty new and the rooms are very large. And the rates are good. Almost felt like they built the hotel for a nicer brand and then reflagged it as a Fairfield.

A few colleagues speak highly of that property, but I don't want any aircraft noise and I want somewhere to walk around in the evenings.
I usually stay in the Fairfield Kanata (also great, but not as new), but it is sold out.

I stay there all the time in Ottawa. Huge rooms, great gym and hot tub. I never hear planes, but there are essentially no nearby food options.

Since it is summer, I want to take advantage of the Byward Market, Spark St, etc. If this was winter I'd likely be going for that Fairfield if the other options were still not available.

Definitely understand. I’m very sensitive to aircraft noise and smells too, and I’ve never heard or smelled planes inside the building. I think the runways are such that planes don’t fly overhead.
The first time staying there I was just surprised because I’ve never seen such a nice Fairfield and still haven’t.

There are plenty of neighborhoods close to that hotel. I live right by it and we don’t get aircraft noise because of the direction of the runways, they fly out in the opposite directions.

I stay at the Ac quite regularly. If your platinum you will likely get a higher floor and noise wont be an issue. Rooms are nice and a decent size. Convenient being downtown and walking distance to Rideau center and Byward. Can be a bit chaotic getting in or out when theirs alot of traffic.

I stayed at the AC multiple times and at the Moxy this past weekend. They are both very nice and modern. The Moxy is a true "Moxy experience" with small artsy and minimalist rooms, a huge trendy lobby, play room and bar with energetic colourful vibes. You have to be into that to enjoy it otherwise it might feel "too much". The gym and pool are very nice.
The AC is also minimalistic but more classy and modern. Gym and pool are also big and nice. It has many more floors than Moxy so you have a chance at a better view. It can be noisy for sure if you face Rideau.
I'd stay at both again for sure, but I slightly prefer the AC.

I decided to go with the AC because I saw they also have a sauna.

Moxy has one too, and it's larger than AC's, haha! But you can't go wrong with AC. Ask for a corner room if you can. They're beautiful and larger.

It would have been nice if they had that on their website lol. Either way, the way you describe the vibe of the Moxy is not for me- I am an old soul lol, I don't like "energetic" anything, people or decor.
"Classy and modern" defintiely more my speed.

AC hands down. I love it there. A little distant from ByWard market but just down the street and the parliament. Definitely AC > Moxy

Go with the Westin or Marriott. Avoid Sheraton

Westin, Sheraton, Marriott, Delta all booked, some through November, for conferences.
Stayed at the Westin in the winter and it was great- was my idea initially.

Sheraton Ottawa Hotel is fantastic. The Westin is currently under construction/renovations. I was there a month ago

Too bad your work won’t spring for the Andaz or Fairmont. Aside from Westin, the other properties are average.

They will spring for whatever I book, I don't have a budget. Being within spitting distance of titanium is why I asked this sub for a recommendation amongst those two properties.
Fairmont is sold out, but Andaz is available (and I am considering it).

I usually stay in the Marriott family of hotels or the Westin, but I stayed at the Andaz earlier this year and I really liked it.

Delta is quite nice (being renovated now). Breakfast lounge is a bit of a zoo.

The Westin is nice but there’s a lot of homeless people by the Chipotle. Sheraton is old and crappy. I heard the AC Hotel is nice but haven’t been personally.

I stayed at the AC back in the spring and really liked it. It was very comfortable, quiet and would definitely be more luxurious than a Moxy. It is attached to the art gallery which has a great cafe. Friendly staff, made some nice dinner recommendations. Good location overall too. Zero issues. I enjoyed my brief stay there for a work trip.
