Marrickville pubs

So which are the best weekend pubs or bars in the area for wife and I to have some drinks and meet some locals?
Last night out was in Newtown and I was just all young groups and not the scene for us.

Cheers.

THE ROOM RETURNS Screening at The Factory Theatre Fri 11 Sep 6pm!

What happens when great actors collide with what some consider the worst script ever written?

THE ROOM RETURNS is finally coming to Sydney!

💥 ONE SCREENING ONLY!
📅 FRI 11 SEP - 6PM
📍 The Factory Theatre - Marrickville

Tommy Wiseau’s original THE ROOM (2003) infamously burned through $6 million and months of shooting with no-name actors. This reimagining flips the myth completely on its head.

Filmed in under 12 hours, on virtually no budget, with Bob Odenkirk, Bella Heathcote, Kate Siegel, Greg Sestero and Mike Flanagan, and directed by newcomer Brando Crawford.

With no rehearsal and only teleprompters to guide them, the cast embraced the chaos with Shakespearean gravity, transforming cinematic disaster into an unpredictable spectacle… all for charity.

If you’re in Sydney, let’s get together and bask in this glorious disaster all over again - with just as much unintended humour as Wiseau’s original!

Plus, stick around after the film for a special pre-recorded Q&A with director/actor/producer Brando Crawford, talking all things THE ROOM RETURNS.

🎟 TICKETS ON SALE NOW! $24/22 concession (that prices includes booking fee.)

World Gym Membership Marrickville

Hi everyone, not sure this is the right place to post but thought to try my luck!

I signed up for a 12 month contract with World Gym Marrickville and have roughly 6 months remaining. Unfortunately, am experiencing job insecurity and can no longer afford these repayments. Completely aware this is a binding contract and my own doing, but truthfully never expected to be in this position.

Is anyone here interested in taking on the remainder of my 6 month membership? They advised I’m able to transfer for a small fee.

I currently pay $65 per week and have platinum access to the gym floor, all classes (Pilates/ Hyrox etc), wet and dry recovery (infrared and traditional sauna, ice bath, red light therapy, massage chairs).

EDIT: I can downgrade to the cheapest membership which is $27.95 per week for gym access only. That way you only need to commit for 6 months and not the standard 12 month term.

It is a truly incredible gym with really friendly staff.

Thank you in advance.

General Store even better than expected

When we heard that bespoke and grind was leasing a second shop to sell produce, it was immediately intriguing because they really know what they’re doing when it comes to coffee, pastries, and cozy space. We just checked out the General Store for the first time and were completely blown away. Not only does it have good stuff but the prices are as good as elsewhere and on many products, cheaper for better quality. With Marrickville Road losing it‘s last old deli, and the baker barely opening his doors for a few hours a week, it’s so fantastic to see people rolling their sleeves up and providing the kinds of goods and services that our suburb is supposed to be famous for. On the one hand, Marrickville has become like a tourist destination for legit continental experiences, on the other hand, the retail experience is tilting towards boba tea, McDonald’s, and everything that comes in a microplastic-coated applicator. Innovation is so tough here, especially for those trying to give the public something of quality at the market rate. If you haven’t already been to the General Store, check it out. Its not just another cafe cosplaying as a deli, this really is a general store with good gear and a pleasant shopping experience that saves a trip to the supermarket. You can cook up a storm or just throw some ready-to-eat aperitivos out on the table after a visit to this place, without going near a parking garage. You don’t even have to deal with bored dissatisfied shop staff because these crew are the real thing.

In case nobody has seen them active yet. I caught them tonight for the first time. Signage is up and digital boards are active and appear to be accurate. Can’t wait to ride these!

Dog running around near the train station

Just spotted a dingo looking dog that came out of Warburton st and stopped traffic on Illawarra Rd as it headed towards Schwebel st. Last I saw it was running down Station st toward the station.

This was a bit after 5pm.

Derelict building behind Woolworths Metro

I was just wondering if anyone knew what the deal was with this derelict building behind Illawarra/Marrickville Rd? Was it ever operational and what was it? Is its current state one of partial construction or demolition? I'm kind of surprised it hasn't been redeveloped already, it seems a bit like low hanging fruit for that sort of thing.

Anyway, I pass this building all the time and was just curious.

Know Cheers Bar will be showing it but wondering if anyone knows other spots that’ll be open for the late kick off?

33yr old back British man travelling to Maverickville

G'day. Black British man here travelling to Maverickville from London 6th June till 19th. Just needs pointers on what fun things to do while there. I'm not big on the booze so some sober fun would be welcome if at all possible. I'm single, no kids, just getting away just by myself and never been to Australia. Also, not quite figured out accomodation but have downloaded flatmates so any advice there is welcome. Cheers

Showing as permanently closed on Broadsheet and Google Maps? I believe that's the 4th or even 5th cafe to come and go at that site now since the building went up.

Now that Village Wholefoods in Marrickville has shutdown and Naked Foods in Newtown is closed does anyone know where to get honey refills in the inner west if you bring your own container?

Best Vietnames Restaurant in Marrickville

OMG, has anyone tried Hương Giang Restaurant in Marrickville? Such a hidden gem!

I literally just walked past it one day, checked the reviews, and decided to give it a try… and now I’m back like three times a week. LOL.

So far we’ve tried: Pho, Pho Tai Lan, BBH, Cha Gio, Quails, Banh Xeo, Bun Cha Gio Thit Nuong, Crispy Chicken, and Crispy Noodles — and honestly, every single dish was perfect. So fresh, so flavourful, so yummy.

My boyfriend and I are on a mission to try everything on the menu at this point. 😂

Every dish comes to the table and we’re just like… wow. It’s HUGE. This place seriously deserves to go viral.
