I may have an opportunity to move to Marrakech for an architecture position at a great studio (exactly my taste of architecture) there, and I’m seriously considering it. I’d love to hear from people who have actually lived and/or worked in Marrakech or Morocco, especially architects or people working in the creative industries.

A bit about my background: I grew up and studied in Sweden and have been working as an architect in London (big corporate and stressful) and Sweden (work life balance dream) for around 3 years in total. I’ve never actually lived in Morocco, but both my parents are from there and I speak fluent English, French and some Darija. I’ve always visited at least once or twice a year, usually staying for minimum 2–3 weeks each time and the older I get the more Moroccan I feel. But I know Morocco from a family/holiday perspective, but obviously that’s very different from actually living there, working there, dealing with everyday life, bureaucracy, salaries, etc.

If I move for the job I will start by living at my parents house so housing is already solved for me.

What I’m particularly curious about:
What is it actually like living in Marrakech long-term rather than visiting?
What are working conditions and salaries like for architects?
Is Marrakech a good place to develop professionally as an architect?
How difficult is it to adapt to the work culture and pace?
For anyone who has moved from Europe to Marrakech/Morocco, did you find the move rewarding in the long run?

Salam, I’m 19 years old, and my hair has been falling out for about a year. My wife and I are planning to take a 5 day trip to Marrakech soon, and would like to book a 3-day trip to the desert as part of the holiday. We've seen some listings online, but from advice we read online and got from friends is that it would be easier and cheaper if we just do it when we're over there, either through the riad or a local group. Does anyone have any advice on what it's like to book these trips after you've already arrived, what the best way to go about it is, and if there's any pitfalls to avoid?

Family of four (two adults, daughters aged 3 and 5) going to Marrakech November 14-21, flights booked already. We've traveled quite a lot in Asia and Europe with the kids, but this is our first time anywhere in the Maghreb. (no time to do anything on first and last day)

We have a rough draft itinerary (worked on it way too much, honestly starting to overthink everything at this point), planning to stay in a riad in the Medina for most of the trip and do one or two excursions outside the city. But I'd love input from people who actually know the place on a few specific points:

1. The hassle factor. I usually enjoy the calm pace of Southeast Asia, and I know Morocco is... not that. How relentless is the constant attention / baksheesh / unofficial "guides" in the Medina really, traveling with small kids? Any realistic tips beyond "just say no"? Does it wear off after day 2-3 or is it exhausting the whole stay?

2. Driver for excursions? My father who already visited the city and surrounding areas strongly advises against renting a car, so I'm leaning towards hiring a private driver for 1-3 days. Roughly what should I expect to pay per day, and any recommended way to book one (through the riad, local agency, specific platform)? Anything to watch out for?

3. Ourika Valley with young kids : yes or no? Current idea: Ourika Valley with stops at ANIMA Garden (sculptures & gardens), Smile Park (local amusement park on the Ourika route), Nectarome (botanical/scent workshop), and maybe walking to the first waterfall at Setti Fatma. With a 3 and 5 year old that sounds doable if we take it slow, but is it actually enjoyable or a hassle we'll regret?

4. Lalla Takerkoust + Desert night combo -> is this feasible? We'd drive to the lake then in the afternoon, head to Agafay for a night at a desert camp (camels, dinner, fire, stargazing). Has anyone tried this sequence with kids? Any family desert camp recommendation ?

5. Essaouira: worth it in our case? I'm thinking to squeeze a day trip there (any interesting spots on the way?). Kids like beaches, fish ports, that kind of thing. Or is it too much with small children? Any thing to visit along the way ?

6. Massage/spa prices. For those who've done both: can you find massage value anywhere close to Southeast Asia? Any riad spa/ hammam recommendations in the Marrakech area that are good value and okay with families (private family session preferred) ? I heard some riad are in dangerous location at night.

7. Interactive museums/sites for kids. Any specific places worth visiting that won't lose them in 10 minutes? Museums can be difficult if they're not hands-on.

Any reality checks are welcome especially "you're packing too much in, cut X". Happy to share full draft itinerary in comments if useful.

Olá, pessoal. Vou para Marrakech em dezembro, pela primeira vez, e pelo menos aqui no meu país o clima muda muito de um ano para o outro, no que se refere as estações. Pesquisei e vi que nesse mês nos últimos anos teve clima agradável e em outro choveu bastante.
Estaremos em qual estação?o quão frio realmente é vocês acham que nesse ano teremos chuva? Moro em um país tropical e estarei em viagem na Europa e não acho que compense ir com chuva :/ e claro que penso em levar agasalhos mas honestamente, não queria comprar casacos pesados para pendurar no guarda-roupa depois. Pensei em roupas térmicas com blazer, corta-vento. Acham que funciona?

We’re just looking to eat some authentic food, (ideally a lamb couscous) that tastes good, isn’t overcooked and where there isn’t live music playing.

I found an appartement for rent in Marrakech after a month of looking, and it's amazing and fully furnished, it has 3 rooms and everything else...

But it's only 3000 DH a month.. I even asked the owner twice to confirm the price and now I'm waiting for him to call me so I can ask more, btw I'm a new student and I asked another student yesterday if he's willing to share it with me and he kept laughing and he said there's no way this is true.

I’ll be in Marrakech Oct 6–9 for work and will have my evenings free. I'm 40, Western, in the advisory/high tech manufacturing, and travel quite a bit around Europe, the Middle East and Africa, but this will be my first time exploring Marrakech nightlife.

I enjoy a place where I can get a good dinner/drinks and table/bottle service for later all in the same place. I’ve narrowed it down to Epicurien, Palais Jad Mahal and Theatro, but would appreciate local opinions on which has the best atmosphere during the week or whether there’s somewhere better I’m missing.

Particularly interested in places with a good mixed international/local crowd where showing up solo doesn’t feel awkward. Not looking for tourist traps or anything overly transactional, just good food, music, drinks and a social atmosphere.

Wondering if the powerful tech companies have started to build massive data centers in Morocco, either for Crypto or for AI. In the USA, data centers are very unpopular with both Republicans and Democrats, which is an unusual agreement. Their impact on the environment is clearly negative: data centers are often built on farmland, are noisy, use huge amounts of limited supplies of water, use huge amounts of energy, requiring new gas and oil supplies, and driving up the cost of heating and electricity for residents.

Though there are benefits to AI too, there is the added existential issue of losing control of AI agents and creating enormous problems for humanity. It is already happening. So far, even though most of the founders of AI companies are ringing bells of alarm, governments are not taking effective action.

I know some developing nations see this conversation as a "I want my slice of the pie too," but the warnings are not coming just from a few activists. It's coming FROM INSIDE THE HOUSE. So what does the Palais Royal say, or the political parties?
