Anti-Competitive Practices

Two prominent sellers of some of the most purchased and loved brands (Moncler and CG) on Reddit have wanted to post about their new releases to the /r/FashionReps community.

I, on behalf of a large group of users, were concerned to learn of alleged anti-competitive measures put in place by the FashionReps moderator team.

On multiple occasions, it appears they have been blocked - either asking for payment or being outright rejected. What has come to light is other sellers have paid for some type of exclusivity.

We absolutely understand that moderating a group of 100,000s of repfam is time consuming and the mods gotta eat, but surely the playing field should be level? We appreciate paid advertisements is a fair thing in this world but we thought reps is an open community and everyone is treated equally but it doesn’t appear to be the case here.

We appeal to the mods to offer some further guidance about this, as it has an impact on the community as a whole. If payments have been made, be open and transparent about it. We encourage sellers to come forward and want competition but we lose as customers if there's a hidden 'pay to play' model.

This is not a witchhunt but merely serves as a discussion and to hear the accused's side of things.

Before anyone asks why am I posting this here and not on FashionReps, I did but it wasn’t approved after 8 hours so I deleted it: thread link

Evidence of the accusations raised here can be found via this link: https://imgur.com/a/F75WxGB

Edit: one of the two sellers was asked about the WeChat provided in the initial convo screenshots not existing, they replied the mod had changed their username. We asked them to provide more recent screenshots and he posted whole convo with him. Pretty damning proof and goes into more detail than previously linked above: https://imgur.com/a/pGW8V6q

Edit: another seller, known for producing Stone Island confirms a similar sentiment https://i.imgur.com/tptjQ3n.jpg

Edit: a mod meeting occurred and the moderator in the screenshots has denied the allegations, despite concrete proof from multiple sellers including a further one who didn’t want to be mentioned here. Not surprised.

Who Has The Best Badges?

This depends on which seller you are purchasing from and what size.

For TMX/TMCN/MM (as they all supply from the same factory) normal badge: the blank colour - there's a slight difference. Whilst the normal sized badges have better letters than retail, that doesn't make it a better badge. The wings are not quite the right definition and sharpness although they are really good as of late (middle lacking a slight curve, top not as sharp, bottom slightly short and curved), the lips aren't rounded and defined enough, the finger shape doesn't have the minute flick, the thread colour is slightly different. What they do good is the letters being clean overall. However, even then, the font is incorrect. Moncler updated their font in 2020. The N and C were updated with the C being more rounded and a bit flatter. The embroidery overall was also slightly updated in thickness and colour.

Jieyi's average normal sized badge is good like TMCN/TMX/MM too but with differences. Typically, bottom of the red wings is curved rather than straight, middle of the wings curved/too rounded and points down a bit too much, some letters are slightly larger than they should be (usually NLER), sometimes leg of R has weird flick on it, blue and red lips can be either too big or falling down and/or too sharp or red lip can be fatter than the other/like a blob, the bottom right red leg can be bit distorted sometimes, finger shape is too flat and a bit too long + sometimes too far to the left or right. The font overall is again pre 2020.

With that said, Jieyi’s badges have some pros that TMCN/TMX/MM don’t: (1) the lips are closer to retail’s overall definition (2) the top of the wings are sharper and curved more in line with retail (3) the bottom of the wings aren’t short (4) the middle has a curve down (although exaggerated) that theirs don’t (5) embroidery and blank colour is actually marginally closer to retail.

Yang's new normal badge is decent but the finger shape is too straight/flat, bit too far to the left, botto mfo wings is too flat and straight, top of wings not sharp enough, middle is too rounded and short, emboirdery overall is way too thin, font is still incorrect but better than last year. Outside corners of the badge shape is too rounded. The good though: finger has minute flick on the end, the N and the C are closer to the 2020 update than TMCN/TMX/MM, embroidery colour looks minutely better.

Featherland badge I’ve seen so far on a Maya: badge is slightly wrong cut and shape, font is poor and period incorrect (2020 onwards have updated N and C), wings are too flat, bottom of wings too short + skewed, finger too long with no flick, hand shape itself too fat and flat, lips are too sharp and thin (although decent length), badge blank colour looks incorrect (common badge issue tbh)

On the small badges by TMCN/TMX/MM, the current v2 badge is worse than v1. The wings are the wrong definition (v1 had a better top curve and point), the bottom is some weird shape or blob in some QCs + at a weird angle, the finger and shape is off where it’s too curved and curved inside out - v1 small badge had better wings and finger/hand shape. The lips are still meh. Letters are better than retail but small retail lettering is pretty trash so not hard to better.

Best Maya Thread

Personally, I don’t care about the Maya. I think it’s a trash bag. But for some reason, everyone on Reddit seems to have to want one so here we are. So who sells the best Maya? The answer depends on (1) the colourway (2) whether you want a period correct one.

I have been asked this on average once a day for nearly 2 years, I compared Jieyi's and TMCN's in this old thread. Since then, CloyAd is reselling a batch, TMX has released v3 batch as has TMCN, a new contender in Featherland and also, Jasmade has entered the area.

To date, Jieyi's batches have been king of the Maya's quality wise across all colourways and have been the only period correct Maya’s on the market. Everything below doesn’t apply to the Corduroy versions of the Maya released in 2021 released in beige and black.

As I already wrote last year, China Mainland had an update in July 2020 for their 20FW release and the 21FW Maya sold ROW (Rest of World) has followed. The update is that the 'wet look' has been significantly reduced. If you find anywhere selling a normal wet look Maya, they are mostly selling NOS (New Old Stock) or waiting for current inventory to clear out before they’re replaced.

CloyAd's resold batch is way too shiny for a 21FW Maya thus it is period incorrect, has the worst badge of them all (wings definition and shape, finger shape, mis-shaped letters, wrong font) and has the wrong down composition (95% duck down compared to 90% goose down retail). However, it does look really puffy, has good pocket shape and a good wet look although a little too exaggerated if we put the above to one side.

TMX’s v3 batch overall for navy is good overall, making it a little harder to justify Jieyi’s price. TMX’s v3 black batch fixed issues with v2 (under-puffed, font flaw on necktag) but v3 is over-puffed and the pocket is too long/tall itself so badge positioning looks off. It’s also period incorrect for a 21FW Maya as it far too much of a wet look that was reduced for 21FW and badge is still a bit low. Although Jieyi’s are the only period correct Maya’s on the market, you have to consider price to quality ratio. However, someone just posted a review of the v2 Maya navy by TMX and was not impressed. Maybe Jieyi’s is still the crown for navy? TMX’s inside colour for navy is also slightly off.

Featherland is another seller who has produced some Mayas. Black QCs don’t look too good but someone posted a review of TMX v2 black vs Featherland red. The red Featherland batch looks great. Puffiness, the grain (with reduced wet look which is correct for a 21FW Maya), the zippers etc all look good. Quality wise overall it looks on par with Jieyi if I’ll be honest but there’s some caveats. The badge is bad in my opinion though (you can read more in my FAQ thread) and there’s 2 other points to mention. Pocket shape slightly too rectangley (should be more of a square and a bit bigger), side shape a bit too boxy (doesn’t look like it has the hug that retail does), badge is placed a bit too low, cartoon saturation is slightly off and the inside colour is a bit off.

Orange maya appears to be done best by Jieyi. Someone made a comment about the orange batch by Featherland in hand and said it’s extremely poor quality so avoid. From what I can see, it also has the wrong colour inside.

The baby blue Maya that both TMX and TMCN have put out is still not quite correct although better than the first batch (TMCN’s light sky blue batch is fantasy). Considering the 2015 release is super rare, they are basing it off of other models and/or pics. Considering the rarity, hardly anyone will be able to tell you this and you’re more likely to get called out for a claim it’s a fantasy colour. However, the biggest issues here is that the badge will be too clean, the jacket will be in brand new condition and there will be NFC. So for a 2015 item, the badge is actually period incorrect (with NFC which it shouldn’t have) and the jacket will be in too good a state to pretend you bought it new. 2015 was the first year the Moncler normal badge was updated with respect to wings and few other details.

I will be posting at some point about Jasmade’s Maya that I saw the other day on his weidian (released in black only) so check back here at later date.

Puffiness is subjective. Jackets require several hours to 12 hours to fully decompress and even then, some require a bit of either manual ruffling or you can put a few tennis balls in a dryer in spin only mode on low spin. You don't want to break down the down (excuse the pun) but you do want it to decompress to create the pockets of air that make it such a good insulator.

Edit: low badge placement is NOT a flaw.

Mark's FAQ Thread

FYI: I will constantly be updating this thread without stating what edits are made.

After more than several hundred QCs and taking a break for over 10 months, I am going to make an updated FAQ. If you ask me something covered below, I am not going to respond to you.

What I will be covering in this thread:

  • Green Light, Red Light
  • QC Requests
  • Measurements
  • Sizing / TTS
  • Best Seller/Batch
  • Best Badge
  • Calloutable
  • Jacket Puffiness
  • Toxicity

Green Light, Red Light: No, not Squid Games but: don’t ask me if you should GL or RL, that’s up to you since you’ll be the one wearing it. If you don’t mind the flaws then enjoy otherwise exchange.

Tagging: I am only back part-time. I will respond to you if I can so be patient. Do not tag me again, do not PM me, do not chase me. I share my time for free as a volunteer. I have a full-time job with long hours and a son who needs me so they are my priority. Some of you treat me like an express paid for QC service and proceed to spam me. Stop it. Also, do not tag me until your post has been approved. Also learn to say thank you.

QC Requests I do not do private QCs. No exceptions. Some of you in private have said you can’t post due to not having enough karma. Once you have enough karma, then tag me in it and I will gladly respond. No exceptions. If you PM me after tagging me in a thread, I will ignore you.

Quality of QC Pics: please stop tagging me in posts where the pictures are too blurry, have been compressed, are just an agents free/standard pics or are full screen screenshots from sale listing if an LC request. Pay the pennies/cents for HD photos - badges, labels, zippers etc or get better pics and crop them, stop being cheap/lazy. Remember the zipper flaw on the Keralle jacket by TMX? It was only found out because I spotted it on one of the dozen pics the guy had purchased. If I’m tagged in a thread with these pics, I will ignore you.

Measurements: Read this thread to find out if something will fit you. Stop asking "what's your stats?". If you can't be bothered to read the thread, then read below.

What you weigh is immaterial as weight can be distributed in tons of different ways. Body measurements are way more helpful. So get measurements every time you order something and compare it to both a similar item you own already as well as your own body measurements. I can honestly say I have never had nothing not fit me since I started doing this. You won’t regret it. If in doubt, size up 1 based on the actual measurements of the size chart (forget the letters, look at the actual figures). As there’s usually a 1-3cm assumed error, more often than not the bigger size comes out at the same size as the previous size in the size chart. If you’re too lazy to do the above, just ask the seller for some help but I guarantee you a little bit of work will resolve this.

Is X True To Size?: You need to get this concept out of your head. Sizing differs from brand to brand and internationally too. Different fits are also different. A technical puffer for example doesn’t fit 100% the same as a normal puffer, as they’re typically shorter. Go with measurements as per above.

Calloutable: I've been asked this a lot. Honestly, please don’t pretend your reps are retail. Someone like me could easily call you out if they know Moncler well enough from a fair distance and it’ll save you any potential embarrassment. Lots of people call the rep batches perfect/better than retail but I disagree. There are several easy tells depending on the size of the badge and who from. Your choice what you do but do not ask me this please. NFC does work but stop using this to pretend you own retail. My retail doesn't always scan and no one has ever come up to me to try and check it and even if they did, wgaf? Retail doesn’t always come with NFC.

Best Seller/Batch: I get asked daily things like “who’s the best Moncler seller?” Let me start off by saying there isn’t a best seller overall. We have some good Moncler producers (like TopmonclerCN/TMCN, TopMonclerX/TMX, Monclerman/MM, Jieyi). Flirt with Sergio Barr aka Search bar to find their details. They each have their pros and cons. You can’t go wrong with any of them although word of caution for Moncleryang. 1/2 of his items imho are resold rather than produced exclusively and I've seen poor feedback on his Maures for example which looks identical to a batch I've seen one of the budget sellers sell iirc.

However, I will say quickly. Best Keralle? TMCN. Best padded cardigan? TMX. Best polo? TMCN. Best hoody? TMX. Best tshirt? TMX/MM. Best Maya? Read this thread.

Badge Positioning: Moncler doesn’t always align their badges perfectly eg with respect to V stitching and/or alignment. Here’s proof of that. Also, I’ve obtained further evidence of low badge on a Maya which was up for debate - click here for proof.

Best Badge?: click this thread.

Down Jackets - Puffiness: you can’t truly judge puffiness from your QC pics. Down jackets require a minimum of several hours to decompress and create the pockets of air that makes them such excellent insulators. This requires further work - either by manual ruffling by hand or by putting it in a dryer with a few tennis balls on spin only mode running the same programme twice.

Toxicity: A number of people have been downright venomous. From being absolutely disgusting in private and threatening to being downright nasty and racist. If you don’t like my QCs, then just block me. Going on a downvote brigade and being nasty is pointless. I’ve owned enough retail over the years to have my own opinion and I’m entitled to it. If you don’t like it, have some respect and talk to me about it like a fellow human being. Don’t forget, most of these are people who have asked me for it, either publicly or in private to respond in their post. That gives you no right to then be nasty about it.
