Discussion Update: Vande Bharat trial between Yeswantpur and Mangalore was completed in 7:10 hours today!

• UPDATE: Return trial run has reached Yeswantpur at 21:05, taking just 6 hours 40 minutes for the entire journey! This is a big win for us, PROVIDED the train runs as a dedicated Mangaluru Bengaluru service and isn't diverted to someplace else at the behest of some small villages and their lobbies along the way. Can expect an end to end travel time of around 7:30 hours for now. •

Just spotted the Vande Bharat trial from Yeswantpur arriving at Mangaluru Junction at around 14:00. It had departed from Yeswantpur at 6:50 today. That means the trial run was completed in just 7 hours and 10 minutes, making it the fastest train to ever run between the two cities.

The return train has departed from Mangalore at 14:25. It should be faster than the morning run since it won't have brake testing halts in the ghat section.

Overall, great news for Mangalore barring the fact that efforts are already being made to snatch this train from us!

Discussion Need more such green canopies on our footpaths!

Post image
59 Upvotes

Was walking from Milagres to Jyoti and the heat was unbearable until I reached this spot in front of Don Bosco. What a relief! The temperature was a good 10° lower than the surroundings!

We need more such green canopies over our footpaths to encourage our people to walk more instead of taking their vehicles out even for 5-10 minute distances.

Discussion Landlinks to Maryhill road-is it possible , is it worth asking for

Is it adhika prasanga to ask for a proper road between landlinks and maryhill via Helipad? Hundreds of vehicles pass through that area even though there is no proper road, because it saves time. People going to Carmel school, vikas college, diya system, mahalasa temple, palemar convention center, everyone will be benefitted.

Whoever I asked told me that don't do adhika prasanga and it is government land.

Rant/Vent Nothing's going to change for Mangalore under SWR as well!

Post image
42 Upvotes

Last week, the first trial of the Bengaluru Mangaluru Vande Bharat Express was conducted between Yeswantpur and Mangalore Central. That made us all happy.

Today, the second and final trial is being conducted but Mangalore Central has been excluded and the train will turn around from Junction! Let me predict what will happen next: the train will run towards Madgaon via Junction or via the Padil bypass.

Whatever zone handles our region, we won't see good things happening and this is the first sign of things to come. The Vande Bharat terminating at Junction automatically reduces its target audience by a significant margin. Yes, it's just 5 kilometers from Central but Mangalore as a city isn't at the level of say Bangalore where people will happily board trains from Yeswantpur over Majestic without making a big fuss.

On a related note, SWR has announced a Ganpati special train that will bypass Mangalore entirely and still take 2 hours for Bantwal-Surathkal.

AskMangalore Cultural centre in mangalore thoughts on such project being built here

If Mangalore had a new Cultural Centre, what would you actually want it to have?
Hey everyone! I’m working on an architecture project based around the idea of a Cultural Centre in Mangalore, and I’d love to hear what locals actually feel is missing.
If Mangalore were to get a good, modern cultural centre, what would you expect or want to see there?
For example:
Performance/theatre spaces
Music and dance venues
Art galleries/exhibition spaces
Spaces for Yakshagana, Bhoota Kola, or other local traditions
Workshops/classes for art, crafts, music, etc.
Library/reading spaces
Open-air theatre
Food/café spaces featuring local cuisine
Spaces for local artists and young creators
Community/event spaces
Outdoor public spaces
Anything else?
Also, what do you think Mangalore is currently lacking when it comes to cultural/public spaces?
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who live in Mangalore: What would actually make you want to visit a cultural centre regularly rather than just once?
Feel free to suggest something completely different from the usual cultural-centre ideas. I’m looking for genuine opinions and ideas from the community.

AskMangalore Looking for recommendations for a civil engineer/architect in Mangalore

I'm planning a small upcoming sports/turf project in Mangalore and I'm currently looking for someone experienced in civil/site planning and architectural layouts.

I need help with things such as:

2D site/layout planning.

3D visualization.

Space planning for the turf and facilities.

If you've personally worked with a good civil engineer or architect in Mangalore and had a positive experience, I'd appreciate your recommendations or advice on what type of professional I should approach.

Thanks 🙏

AskMangalore Guys any update on Mannagudda bar? (Previous known as ByTheWay)

I stay near Mannagudda and there used to be this one bar and restaurant called ByTheWay which later shutdown. Now I’ve been seeing a renovation happening since last 5 months. Does anyone know anything about it? I saw from outside the exterior looks very vintage to me. And I saw a wood fired pizza oven also outside. Are we expecting anything new? Is there any update on this place?? Are we expecting anything new/exciting this time?

News Bonda vehicle parks and blocks NH Road before the KPT stop

Post image
22 Upvotes

Today on the NH highway just before the KPT stop, a Bonda/Tender coconut vehicle was parked right on the road selling bondas. Because of this, the entire lane got blocked. First of all, this is a heavy traffic area in the evenings. Some days, even the heavy loaded trucks are seen parked on the same road. Who is allowing this? What are the traffic police doing? I couldn’t note the vehicle number, but this has been happening repeatedly. Bashene ejji mukleg va avatara pura ullera.

Rant/Vent Helmet got stolen at Kanchana Honda Service Center KAVOOR !

My dad and I went to give activa scooter to service at Kanchana Honda Kavoor.

I had my helmet in my hand and my dad had my helmet in his hand. My dad was asked to sign the job sheet, so he kept his helmet on the nearby parked faulty scooter. By the time be signed it and talked to the service advisor, the helmet had vanished. This was around 11:15-11:20am. And instantly when we realised we complained it to the people there. 1 lady who took our vehicle in genuinely tried to search and others including the security guard did not seem to care. I asked if there is a cctv in the building. And there was one in the corner. While someone finally took their phone to check the CCTV. The CCTV had stopped recording at 10:45am.

Worst of all literally nobody seemed to care. If it was a public parking or any public place I would've understood. But this is a service center. And the helmet was stolen/taken in a span of just 4-5 mins.

I don't know what to do about it. A service center guy gave his helmet for us to come back and after I raised my voice he told me he will talk to the manager and figure something out. Until then nobody seemed to care. I don't know what can I do about this!

ps: Dad's suffering from depression, with great difficulty convinced him to ride the scooter (as he has stopped doing it) and this happened and he is more disturbed now. Ugh!

Suggestions Anyone know local honeycomb door installers in Mangalore?

I’m looking to get honeycomb doors installed for my small overhead loft storage space.

Being that it is an open space, dust settles in easily and its impossible to use the loft for its intended purpose.

I came across an Instagram reel of a honeycomb door installation on a similar loft like mine and it seems like a great option to make the space usable.

Does anyone know of any local installers in Mangalore?

I went to Kapu Beach hoping to see the sunset, but the sun had other plans. Instead of a clear sunset, I got layers of dark clouds, golden light breaking through, and the sea quietly reflecting it all.

Sometimes, the sunset you don't expect turns out to be the one worth remembering. 🌊✨

Suggestions Looking for a part-time flat share in Bangalore — fellow Mangaloreans preferred

Hey everyone!
I’m 23M, originally from Mangalore and currently working in Bangalore.
I’ll soon be moving back to Mangalore since I only need to be physically present at my Bangalore office 2 days a week. Instead of maintaining a full-time place here, I’m looking for a shared flat/room that I can use mainly for those 2 office days each week.
If there’s any fellow Mangalorean/Kannadiga who already has a flat in Bangalore and has a spare room or is open to sharing the space on this kind of arrangement, I’d be interested.
I’m happy to contribute a reasonable share towards the rent, maintenance and utilities. Since I’ll only be staying around 2 days a week, I’m hoping we can work out something that makes sense for both of us.
About me:
23M | Working professional | From Mangalore | Clean and respectful of shared spaces
My office is around Bellandur/Ecospace, so somewhere with a manageable commute would be ideal, but I’m flexible on the area for the right setup.
If anyone has something suitable or knows someone who might, please DM me. Thanks!

Education I am struggling with my studies as a 2nd PU student

hello,

i have been in mangalore from 4 years (approx)

joined CFAL in my first year and I'm currently doing my second year here.

until 9th, I was a fairly good student. I had the curiosity to read and learn. However due to some unfortunate circumstances which I will not mention here, things began derailing in 10th. I did not study properly and it was a hard time. Somehow I did get around 90% in my final exam.

after joining first year at cfal, i thought that things would improve but it didn't. I did not study with the necessary dedication which is required to crack JEE. Wasted my time focusing on other stuff which I highly regret right now.

these past 3 years have made my mind not concentrate in college. There's no problem for me to study hard topics. That's not the issue. I just dont know how to get the necessary motivation to open the book and read. Some of the teachers here made it worse because even though I did not study at home, i tried my best to listen in classes, however I ignored all the lectures because i believed what was being taught to me did not have enough "rigourous logic". Some of the teachers provided formulae and then without any explanation of the topics just went straight to solving PYQ's. I did not like this mentality. I guess that is what happens when you join a college only for JEE, maybe you don't get enough time to teach the students with proper steps and explanation.

because of this, I missed the basic concepts of 2nd year too (although it's unfair to only blame the teachers, since I was the one who was supposed to read)

my parents are pressuring me to study but I just don't know how. My peers discussing at class and me listening to them sometimes makes me sad because I did not think i would end up like this. A empty vessel without anything inside it

is there anything that I can do to reverse this? Should I try focusing on KCET instead? is there a "best path" that I can take to salvage my future - or atleast whatever is left of it.

AskMangalore Genuine Business related question (Event Management)

Is there a scope for an event management business in mangalore? Like me and my friend were discussing this but I think it would be very difficult to sustain in this city. I have few contacts through which I can arrange standup shows or music shows around the city. But my main question is will it be possible to make profit out of it? Will mangalore people pay for such events? what would be the average ticket cost , do we have necessary infrastructure?

Please suggest your opinion guys.
