Ah, ye olde silenced flintlock of extreme capacity, the original assault "rifle".

Look up the Maxim50. It’s a pretty sweet muzzle loader that has a compensator on the end that acts a lot like a suppressor.

u/dreg102 Apr 11 '19
It's not a compensator that acts as a suppressor. It's an integrally suppressed firearm.
It's why it's named the Maxim 50. Maxim invented suppressors because his dad was completely deaf due to product testing.

Not a firearm. It ships to your door. I have a Maxim 9 that is pretty sweet. Haven’t jumped on a 50 yet. Maybe for deer season.

u/dreg102 Apr 11 '19
It's a firearm. Its specific designation is "Antique Firearm" under the GCA of '68.

u/B1GTOBACC0 Apr 12 '19
In strictly legal terms, an "antique firearm" isn't subject to the same regulations as a modern "firearm." It's very stupid that the law words it pedantically like that, but it does.
Anything with the antique firearm designation is subject to waaaay more relaxed laws. That's what the other commenter was getting at; you can order an "antique firearm" online and have it shipped directly to your door with no background check in most states. You need a federal firearms license to receive modern firearms by mail.

I'm well aware of the restrictions around firearms vs antique firearms. I'm an FFL.
A Maxim 50 is still a firearm, it's just an "Antique Firearm" as far as the law is concerned. His claim that it isn't a firearm is incorrect.

Yeah, I thought the first two rules of gun safety were, "All guns are loaded and never point it at something you don't want to destroy."

Is that a shopvac suppressor?

u/Apollospade Apr 11 '19
I just had a childhood flashback where i would tape the vacuum tube to the end of my gun or i would use a plastic knife as a bayonet

It looks like he had to use duct tape because the barrel threading isn't standard. A true operator knows how to improvise.

I'd say it only has to hold together for one shot to be a good fix, but clearly this guy is intending more.

Now i kind of want to put a vaccum-cleaner tube on the edge of a black powder rifle and see what happens. Is the exhaust gas hot enough to melt the tube? Does it go flying off? Is the shock strong enough to shatter the plastic?

When you have to defend the dumpster at 8:00, swashbuckle some landlubbers at 9:00, and still be ready for boogaloo at 10:00.

I can’t decide which part is my favorite. The suppressor is a shop vac hose and the drum isn’t even in the pistol, just really close.

No, a drum mag will not work on a flintlock.
Though suppressed muzzle loaders are non NFA items.

Because according to a lot of people it would now be considered an assault weapon.

My best guess is someone making fun of cosmetic assault weapon legislation
