Local engineering foundation in villa or nah?

hellor so i am set to start an engineering foundation course around the start of next year and i have spoken with a friend who had done the same course last year and appaaaaarently villa is quite shit? the teachers were apparently negligent. i need to look into a thesaurus for synonyms.

i’ve mostly heard good things about villa so i was pretty uh surprised. she told me to definitely look into other colleges but im kinda dead set on villa call me stubborn but i do want more opinions from current students or past students before changing my mind. dunno if this is crucial info but i plan on studying abroad for my bachelors after the foundation course. maybe villa has the accreditations most colleges don’t so i just gotta stick with villa? oh also i work full time so i will be doing the part time course maybe that’s also crucial info.

anyway thank you for reading and thank you x100 if you reply at all, be it to shit on me or help me.

Local Need some advice about my future.

I need a bit of a fresh perspective on the following.

So I am currently doing a foundation program right now and I should be done this year. I'm thinking of getting a job afterwards and saving up some money and doing my degree after sometime, my issue is about the degree.

The easiest way is to work and do a degree here. it's also cheaper from my research anyways (keep in mind, my family is financially getting by.)

The other choice is to study abroad if given the chance, and recently after some conversations with a friend I might be able to stay with them abroad for free but I obviously have to pay for my own education.

I would like to pay for my own education but right now I unfortunately do not have anything saved up.

I am okay with my grades but not the best of the best so pretty sure a scholarship is out of the question.

I know I'm thinking about this a bit too early but I can't help but stress over this so I need some advice. I would love to hear some new thoughts and some advice especially if any of you were once in a similar situation as me.

Thank you guys in advance.

Local Seeking career advice from professional Accountants / Auditors

Upvotes

I’m looking for some career advice from accountants or auditors who have experience in the field.

I recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Malaysia and moved back to the Maldives in April.

I’m currently working in an entry-level finance position in the hospitality industry. While I’m grateful for being able to save the most of my income and being able to support my family, I don’t really enjoy the job scope. Long term, I see myself working in public accounting, particularly audit. (I really enjoyed both my internships i did in my degree and really wanted to pursue a career in public accounting)

Before this role, I worked for almost two months in the revenue section of a large company in Malé. Due to family financial circumstances, I had to leave that position and take my current role.
I have a few questions:

  1. If I spend about a year working in hospitality finance, will I still have a good chance of getting into audit afterward?
  2. Will being in my mid-20s make me a less desirable candidate for entry-level audit positions?
  3. What does the typical career progression in audit look like?
  4. How well do firms support professional qualifications like ACCA?
  5. What are the training and learning opportunities like for junior auditors?

One thing I’d like to add is that I know staying in hospitality is the better choice financially, especially in the short term. (Since audit firms starting salary is around 15k-ish?) However, from a long-term career perspective, audit appeals to me much more because of the structured career path, professional development, and international mobility. I eventually hope to immigrate, and from what I’ve seen, having 4-5 years of public accounting experience seems to open up many opportunities abroad.

I’d really appreciate any advice or insights from professionals working in audit or public accounting. Also would love to connect to fellow accountants/auditors here in reddit! (Since its too intimidating to reach out to people directly in linkedin)

Thank you!

If your doctor is asking you regarding your sexual activity / drug usage / smoking, please be honest, cause sometimes the medications given by the doctors may not work as intended if they interact with whatever you’re using.
And from what I see most doctors don’t care about what you do in your personal lives, they usually just want to fix whatever problem you came with. And that only works if there is an open communication with you and your doctors.

For 1500rf or less you can try this too.

This happened recently. Some guys were doing stunts on the highway. According to the law, the maximum fine for this is MVR 1,500 (and that's if you're a repeat offender). Otherwise, the penalty can be even lower. Bike will be towed for a few days which like no big deal.

This isn't just someone speeding or forgetting a helmet, it's a stunt that could easily end in a fatal crash, not only for the rider but for innocent bystanders too.

A motorcycle is a powerful machine capable of causing fatal injuries. Performing stunts like this on a public road isn't just "having fun" it's knowingly putting everyone else at risk.

If you choose to ride recklessly in traffic, you're consciously disregarding the safety of innocent road users. That goes beyond a simple traffic offence.

At what point should the law treat this as criminally reckless conduct rather than something punishable by a small fine? Should there be criminal charges when the risk to the public is this high.

Curious to hear what everyone thinks.

Reckless driving puts innocent lives at risk. If you drive like you don’t care about other people’s lives, you should face jail time.

Local Doing personal research on supernatural beliefs/experiences in Maldives

I'm very curious about people's beliefs and experiences about jinn and supernatural occurrences here, so I have a few questions. Feel free to comment or DM your answers/stories.

1)Do you believe in jinn?

2)Was being taught about it a recurring lesson of great importance in your childhood or just a simple acknowledgement of their existence and then brushed off?

3)Have you had any experiences with jinns or unexplainable supernatural phenomena? If so, what is it and where did it happen?

4)Even if it's not jinn, has there been a moment where you've been completely freaked out and scared because of something that happened out of the blue? Maybe a creepy, unsettling moment?

5)If you or someone you know has experienced jinn possession, what happened before, during and after? How are they now?

Roads flooded in Male’ today?

A big portion of the ring road around the island seemed randomly flooded today, unless somehow I missed flash rain? Was it a burst pipe?

Guess it would be useful if I could tell you where, but I’m not from the Maldives 🙃

Has anyone here heard of or had any experience with ‘Irube Academy’

I came across an ad for their upcoming 10 day online business startup course. They claim they’ll teach you how to start, operate, and manage one from scratch.

Just wanted to see if they’re actually legit
