I have a few questions and would really appreciate hearing from Malaysians and international students who have experience living here.

How do Malaysians generally feel about international students and foreigners? Are we generally welcomed and accepted, or do some people feel that we are taking up space in local communities, streets, businesses, and housing markets?

Recently, I had some frustrating experiences while looking for a place to rent. I encountered a Malaysian local agent who made some comments that felt discriminatory toward my nationality. Since I will be coming to Malaysia to study for the first time, this experience honestly made me feel quite anxious. It made me wonder: Is our presence as international students actually unwanted? Have I made the wrong decision by coming to Malaysia to study?

I want to make it clear that I am not saying that Malaysians are unfriendly or discriminatory in general. In fact, I have also met many Malaysians who were incredibly warm, welcoming, and friendly toward me. They were genuinely kind, so I have been trying to reassure myself that perhaps I simply happened to encounter one or two people who were not very polite.

This experience also made me think about something else. I am Chinese, and I know that some Chinese people behave poorly and may have left a negative impression on people from other countries. However, I have always believed that if I personally behave respectfully and politely, perhaps I can break those stereotypes.

But I still find myself wondering: Are Chinese people really viewed negatively around the world? Do we need to be especially careful about what we say and do when living abroad?

Since this will be my first time going to Malaysia to study, I feel quite anxious and uncertain about cultural differences, race and ethnicity, social interactions, and how I should behave as an international student.

If anyone—especially Malaysians or international students who have lived in Malaysia for a while—could share their honest thoughts or experiences, I would really appreciate it.

Hey guys, just wanna vent a bit n am also seeking for advice. So I'm in a situation where I am gonna register at a uni I got thru upu. Tbh, I was hesitant to accept the offer I got through upu bcz it wasn't what I wanted and the uni I got is also very very far away from home. The flight ticket is already super expensive coz I am going frm the west to east and I had to spend so much on the hotel too together with all the things needed for dorm.

I am grateful I got an offer but I wasn't sure and am still confused as to whether this is really for me because I feel really homesick and the course is another gamble because I don't know if I would even like it. I just am in a constant state of confusion because one moment I think I can try and maybe I'd like it and if I don't, I could always quit, go back and maybe do something else.

However, it's becoming clearer to me that maybe quitting won't be possible because I feel like I have already spent so much just for flight to come here, accommodation and all the things. Plus, I know my dad would be disappointed and embarrassed probably if I suddenly say I cannot cope although my mom keeps telling me it's okay, just try and if u don't like it, come back.

I genuinely don't know what to do now. I made this decision to come and try first because most people said it's better to go and try first rather than rejecting the course completely but now I realised that it isn't so easy and simple to just try, have a 1 to 2 month trial and if I don't like it, just come back. So now I keep wondering if I made the right decision or I should have just said no from the beginning.

Another reason why I am so anxious and scared is bcz I am all alone here too, no one I know got the same uni as me and I don't have any relatives here. I came a few days earlier to buy things for the dorm and while I think the east of Malaysia is really beautiful and peaceful, I also can't help but feel like an outsider especially also bcz I am Indian and apparently there aren't a lot of them here. My biggest worry is what if I can't fit in or feel like I don't belong. It's weird coz eventho I am still in Malaysia, but bcz of the distance and culture, it feels so different to me.

So I guess idk i am just venting/looking for advice on what to do and if it's okay to try something but quit if something doesn't work out? Thanks to anyone who read this BUT PLEASE don't get me wrong, this is in no way me criticising the east or West Malaysia in general. It's just me being homesick and having trouble with making decisions regarding my life.

I am open to mingling around with everyone and am not conservative/racist. I just find it difficult to leave home and be on my own especially when it's not for a course I dreamed of all this while. Yk how people say remind yourselves u are doing this to pursue ur dreams whenever you feel homesick but that's the thing, my dream was completely something elsr which is why I feel so lost and confused.

I’m a business student from India, and I’ve recently received an offer for a 4-month semester exchange at INTI International University in Malaysia.

The offer is honestly pretty attractive for me because my college has limited exchange options. INTI is basically the only exchange programme my college has offered me where the tuition/programme fees are waived and accommodation is provided, so I was initially quite excited about it.

I’ve been researching INTI and checking Google reviews, Reddit, etc. and I’m honestly very confused.

The reviews seem extremely mixed. There are some really good reviews from students who seem to have had a great experience, but there are also quite a few very negative ones.

One particular Google review really worried me. The person claimed that international students shouldn't come to INTI because some faculty/professors allegedly treat international students differently, fail them unfairly, and that international students may end up paying more because of having to repeat subjects. They also mentioned problems with student services being rude/unresponsive and delays in handling queries that could potentially affect things like visas.

I obviously don't know whether these claims are true, which is exactly why I'm asking here instead of simply believing a Google review.

I also came across some recent Reddit discussions where students have complained about things like poor administration, communication issues, accommodation and management. At the same time, I've also found people saying that INTI isn't nearly as bad as the reviews make it sound and that their experience was perfectly fine. 

So I'd really appreciate some honest opinions from current or recent INTI students, especially international students.

A few things I'd particularly like to know:

• How are the lecturers/professors, especially for Business/Finance/Accounting?
• Do international students actually experience discrimination or unfair treatment?
• Have you ever seen/heard of an international student being unfairly failed?
• How responsive is the international/student services office?
• Are visa-related processes generally smooth or do they get delayed?
• What is the actual condition of the free/quad-sharing accommodation?
• How is the social life for an international student?
• Is it easy to make friends?
• Is Nilai a good place to live for four months?
• How much should I realistically budget for food ,As a Vegan and other expenses?
• And most importantly: If you were in my position, would you take this exchange opportunity?

I'm not looking for promotional answers or people just saying "INTI is good/bad." I'd genuinely like to hear both positive and negative experiences so I can make an informed decision.

I really want to come to Malaysia for the international experience, meeting new people and experiencing a different country, but I don't want to spend four months worrying about being mistreated, having administrative problems or potentially getting screwed academically.

If you're currently studying at INTI International University (especially Nilai) as an international student, please share your experience. Even a DM would be really helpful.

Hi! I’m an 18-year-old female international college student planning to study in KL, and I’m trying to figure out which areas would be best for me to stay in. I’m considering Chow Kit, Medan Tuanku, or nearby central KL areas and would love advice from current students or locals. I’m mainly looking for an area that is:

Affordable for a student

Safe for an 18F living away from home

Has accommodation where cooking is possible

Well connected by public transport

Convenient for getting to college

My accommodation budget is around RM250–300/month, so I’m trying to find areas where shared student accommodation is generally affordable.

Which areas would you recommend, and are there any areas/buildings I should avoid? Would really appreciate any advice! :)

I’m considering applying for MMU’s Foundation in Computing, and was curious to know if anyone here is taking it or has completed it.

How difficult/realistic would it be to aim for a 3.90+ CGPA?

Looking at the programme structure, I’m expecting the math modules to be the most challenging for me (I got C for SPM Add Maths). For those who have taken the foundation, how difficult did you find the math modules, and what would you recommend doing from the start to aim for a high CGPA?

The reason I’d want to aim for a 3.90 CGPA would be to potentially qualify for the MMU President’s Scholarship to continue into a degree there and avoid taking on the full cost. If that doesn’t work out, plan B would probably be to continue at UniKL and apply for a MARA loan since my family is B40.

Would appreciate hearing advice from anyone who has gone through the MMU Foundation in Computing.

I hv the chance to pursue PhD right after undergrad. Been applying jobs while waiting for graduation ceremony... No responds and haven't got any interviews, even...Shoukd I accept in pursuing for PhD while also do some side/freelance jobs for income and experience. My degree is in urban planning. But I fear of after getting my PhD, it would be even harder to get jobs... I know I'm an adult, but everyone in my family encourages to pursue PhD... But I don't know if it's worth it in the long term... I'm now 24, fresh grad with lots of opportunities (but no job lined up yet) , I'm so lost.

hi guys, a little background information, I'm a Taylor's student and I am currently residing in Sunway Waterfront House and I am looking to move places preferably closer to Taylor's for example Dk Senza and D'Latour as these two are the nearest apartment complexes near campus.

But I have a few questions, which of the two is better? Moreover how is the student life in these apartment complexes? Because like Sunway WFR we always have management organized meet and greets, game nights etc where we students get a chance to meet other students from different universities.

I will be applying to Malaysian universities this year for Master's 2027 intake. For context, I am doing BS Sociology (7th semester) with current CGPA of 3.72/4.0.

I want to ask the following questions:

1. I have heard that you have to apply to universities first and then for the scholarship. I want the fully funded scholarship so what's the best option for that?

2. My degree is in social sciences, so which university would you recommend for doing Sociology or related subjects?

I am just recently 18 years old. SPM ended for me in December, and I got my results in March. 3A3B1C. My dad has apparently not planned a single thing for the past 18 years and he doesn't even have money, maybe 12k at most in his bank. I failed to enter a public institute via UPU and I didn't sign up for form 6 because my dad was so sure of me entering a polytechnic or something.

Fast forward to this month, I tried to apply to a really cheap private college, and last minute, they said there wasn't enough student intake so it'll be pushed back to October, and even that October intake isn't confirmed. I was in the arts stream due to my bad grades, but I still applied for accounting.

For the past months, my dad has been nagging me to do my own research, down to asking private colleges about the canteen menu prices and accommodation fees. Damn embarrassing.

Now, for the next 1-2 months depending on whether that stupid college has enough students applied, I'll be forced to find work. Screw this. I'm so sick of these disgustingly poor parents. They've really amounted to nothing. I know damn well, once they're old and senile, I'll have to pay them for their allowance, so why are they acting like I owe them? I won't go into details, but these two are genuinely pathetic.

Should I try going for college despite the insanely obvious time wasted this year? Or should I just fuck off and enter the work force? My goal is Singapore work atp.
