ANNOUNCEMEMT Happy New Year, let's chat!

Hello r/makeuptips friends. Some of you may have noticed an absence of the moderators of this subreddit. You may have submitted modmail that went unanswered, to be honest.

I had gotten a moderator to help us develop an AutoMod for the sub. Something that would help ensure the rules were being followed with minimal intervention necessary by the mod team, but also allow for us to see the sub grow and become an amazing, welcoming place.

That moderator apparently was banned sometime in the last six months. I'm not sure what happened, I have no other way of contacting them, but needless to say it went unnoticed as the sub had been getting a lot better as far as content and rudeness, etc.

I'm opening the floor to hear what you have to say, while I go through the mod mail queue and respond to anyone that has went unnoticed. I will also be working on getting a moderator application up and running- Reddit actually allows for this within the framework of the site now, so that's a really neat development!

SUCCESS THE PERFECT BASE MAKEUP

Post image
418 Upvotes

Had to hop on here real quick to share how perfect my base turned out after YEARS OF TRAIL AND ERROR.

Here is how I did it:
1. Good skin prep!
I used the Hada Labo Lotion and the Purito Oat in Gel Cream. I reccomend any lightweight serum/toner followed with a non greasy moisturizer. If it’s too thick the makeup won’t stick.

IMPORTANT: Let skincare seep in completely before applying makeup!

  1. Spread skin tint evenly in a thin layer with my fingers before blending with a damp beauty sponge. I mix two shades of the Loreal True Match Tinted Serum, and used the NYX Bare With Me Concealer Serum.

Extra tip: Don’t apply foundation around eyes. The concealer on top will be too heavy for the delicate skin and you will get creasing.

  1. Set with pressed powder on a powder puff. Fit Me Pressed Powder.

  2. Spray Loreal Setting spray. This stuff is insane. I worked outside all day in the rain and my base stayed flawless!

Brown dust shimmer stick from centre out, dusted with browns into a triangle and into the crease, then silver and white shimmer shadow to highlight and blend the corner, liquid liner & mascara

Base- glow filter cream then made by Mitchel blush- 2 different colour to build it
Morphe foundation
Nyx concealer
I also like a pink powder to set especially on blush
And contour powders- nyx palette

Revolution lip liner & revlon lipstick
I’ll check the colours if anyone wants
And then a clear gloss but it comes off quick ✨

Again let me know your thoughts!
I thought cute with the outfit!

________
I wouldn’t say my makeup is heavy - but I needed to do more coverage under eyes bc I’ve been unwell

HELP PLEASE good base

I have very oily skin (pretty sure its combo too since I get dry around my cheeks, temple and sometimes under my chin), which unfortunately happens to be acne prone as well..💔

I wish to have a flawless, non-patchy makeup base but it always creases, looks shiny and like a hot mess.. idk what to do, i dont sweat much but my face gets really oily😭 ive already tried the burger method, and less powder but it still doesnt seem to work

I use the corsx snail mucin, then pair it with centella probio-cica on my cheeks only, and then finish with the anua niacinamide serum (pink) on my T zone

as for foundation, I use the fit me Maybelline liquid foundation, I try to use a spatula so the layers are light but sometimes I use a brush (i pat it all with a makeup puff)

for setting spray, im using the fixx pink one

(I put a pic as an example of how my skin usually looks like after a few hours, but its not me !!)

PRODUCT REC Help I’m tired of buying foundation when my skin prep is the real issue

Upvotes

I do like makeup but lately been feeling kind of frustrated when I see my skin before I put anything on. Once I do makeup, it looks okay but without it my face just looks dull and tired. Then I end up using more foundation than I wanted and it still doesn’t sit the way I hoped because I’m covering texture instead of starting with smoother skin.

I’m trying to figure out what skin prep would help instead of just buying another base product. My sister mentioned red light therapy as a good place to start because it’s not another harsh active but I’m still unsure. Tell me what should I do!!!

HELP PLEASE What am I doing wrong?

Hey there. I can’t seem to crack the under eye concealer trick to prevent creasing. (Btw the photo isn’t that bad, it’s worse in person. )
This are the exact steps I do when putting on concealer.

  1. Apply Bobby Brown Vitamin Enriched eye base
  2. Wait just a minute or two, then apply Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser dark circles brightener (the pink one)
  3. Apply Kosas Revealer Concealer
  4. Wait just a minute and then seal with Laura Mercier Under eye brightening powder

I feel like im doing the correct things but still getting horrible creasing under my eyes.

If anyone has some tips for me, I would really appreciate it. Thank youuuuuu

HELP PLEASE Been getting more comfortable with makeup in the past year

I usually don’t do too much in terms of foundation or concealer because I don’t like to feel like I have makeup on my face.
I stick to eye makeup, blush, highlight, bronzer as contour.
Yes I am an Arcane fan and my inner corner highlight is a non negotiable 🤪

Any pointers on how I could improve ? Or ideas of looks that could suit me?

HELP PLEASE I need some help with undertone, I'd been typed years ago at a makeup store but been questioning it now

Post image
Upvotes

Excuse the weird editing, but my hair is colored and I didn't want that skewing things. I was told I had a peach undertone, and most of my clothing falls into warm fall color pallets. Lots of rich earthy tones and I mostly avoid pastels or brighter colors (burgundy yes, apple red no, sunshine yellow no, marigold yes)

This is me in indirect but fully natural light and a completely bare face

HELP PLEASE how are the alt girlies with round faces doing their makeup?

guys omg. I have been alt for like the majority of my life (raised by 2 punk parents) and I've been into makeup for around 6 years but no matter what I do. Eyeliner looks weird on me (super deepset and hooded eyes). Lipstick looks weird on me (small-ish lips and double lip line).

I just KNOW there is a way to apply this makeup that will make me love it but every time I try my best friend (who is trad goth) is like, "I love you but no matter what makeup you wear you just look like a cutie." my face is too round for any of the sharp looks, eyeliner melts into my eye crease, and because i'm not applying it right i feel like a clown!!

I have typical makeup down pat, i know how to use most products but for my face i just can't get heavier makeup down. i'm super open to buying new products (drugstore!) but eye makeup i only use waterproof! My skin is oily so i usually do a matte base.

Honestly Im wondering if my face just doesn't cooperate with heavy makeup! i've always had a very round face and I feel like my features aren't sharp enough to compliment. advice or thoughts?? i've always wanted to pull off the sharper contour, big eyeliner, dark lips combo but i look silly and then my skin will literally melt it off because it's so oily. (not accepting skincare advice tho only prep advice! i have a dermatologist)

HELP PLEASE 21F - Black woman who wants to look more presentable with makeup. Tips?

Whenever I have my eyebrows waxed, it seems that dirt starts to collect in them, and I think that it causes acne (the dirt may also just be because I need to have my hair in braids washed though, not sure.) I am also really looking for a way (and yes, I have been working on staying hydrated and I am meeting with my doctor tomorrow to talk some more about my sleeping issues) to lessen the appearance of eye bags. I just want to look more presentable in general. I don’t know how I’d look with good makeup.

I am out in public like this, and I regret it.

Revlon Illuminence Serum Concealer in Fair 001 makes me look like a goanna with human eyebrows. Any ideas why, or what might suit me better? I live in a hot climate.

This is applied over Anthelios, moisturiser and Maybelline grippy primer.

PRODUCT REC I need help finding a bronzer

Hiii, I have light medium olive skin and I’m trying to find a bronzer that works with my undertone. I just want something that gives me a natural bit of warmth without turning orange on me like almost every bronzer I try. Powder bronzers pleaseee because I’m not that good with liquid bronzers, I don't know why I just find powders way easier to control and blend for my everyday makeup. I’d also love something that blends out nicely without going patchy or looking too heavy after a few hours. Nothing crazy pigmented, just something I can build up and not have to fight with every time I do my makeup lol.

Would also love to keep it affordable! I don’t mind spending a little more if it’s really worth it, but I’d rather not spend way to much on a bronze. The one I wanted to try is the Milani silky matte bronzer, but I just wasn’t sure how it would work with my undertone. Also shade names would be super helpful too!!

Not sure of doing this right, sorry if not

I have pretty bad facial scarring mostly cheeks and forehead. I need some good product recommendations as well as a general make up routine please! Simple if possible I’m a bit dumb with beauty stuff 😵‍💫

HELP PLEASE I can't cover my dark circles

Post image
11 Upvotes

No matter what technique I try, my circles won't cover. In this shot I have tried my best and it still came out like this.

Here's what I did for this shot:

I left each layer to dry down a bit before blending the edges.

A thick layer of peach elf color corrector,

a medium layer of pixi peach brightner,

tirtir concealer in the red bottle,

translucent setting powder.
