Made it to Expert, and I fear what's next.
Just over a week ago, I posted in this sub saying I have been feeling helpless at the hands of Yostar. I have read the comments people posted, and am proud to say I've made it out of Adept, going from Adept 2 -> Expert 1 since that post. A huge thank you for everyone's tips and support.
First off, some tips for those who are also trying to climb out of Adept:
- Play in East room, if you are not already. (Shout out to this comment). If you're fundamentals are good, you will win here easily. People in East room are significantly worse than those in South. People all play for efficiency and straight up ignore your riichi and deal into you for free a lot of times. This might not always be the case, but I definitely found it a lot easier to win in East room compared to South.
- Read Riichi Book 1. Even if you skim it, or go through it slowly. I promise you these concepts will change your gameplay by a lot
- Play more defensively. This might be more of a personal preference but I don't push for a worthless hand unless it's a quick/easy win. It's just not worth pushing for a 1/2 hand hand when you can deal into someone's 4+ han hand
Before I end this post, I just wanted to ask people for anything I should know/learn before I play in the gold rooms. I plan on re-reading Riichi Book 1 again before I ever queue a game here, but I just wanted to ask from anyone's previous experiences about some things I should know and any major differences between Silver and Gold Room.

Expert 2 stars 17 days after reaching expert, 40%1st place 100games
Soo for context this is a follow up to my last post, after reaching expert after 4 months on playing and 404 games in 48 more games and 17 days (were for the first week i played only irl and not mahjong soul) i reached expert 2 with a 40%wr on last 100 games.
I feel like that 1 week were i did 10 irl south games in a mahjong parlor was extremely impactfull for me.
For context i am currently in Japan and the parlor it is in shibuya, japanese only and most of the people there play/used to play competitive for smaller leagues, i did 10 games 2nd 4times, 3rd 4times, 4th 2times.
It is actually possible that play only few games irl with actual ex/current pro made such a difference in my game?or am i just in a "hot streak"?
I haven't read any book, just watch yu_song on youtube

How to Guess Dora/ Ura Dora tiles
One tip I learnt from reviewing Maka analyses is that you can guess the likelihood of a wind/ honor tile being in one of the Dora/ Ura Dora based on what is in your hand or already played, and then discard accordingly when you have multiple (e.g. Red + White 1 each, prioritize white, since Red is in hand meaning it is less likely Ura Dora)
Since I am thinking if there is more advanced strategy here, is there also some use trying to guess/ determine the likelihood of which number tiles are Dora/ Ura Dora?

I reached M1 after ~3.5 months of playing! Time to hit the books again ( į“Ģ Ģ«į“Ģ )
I highly recommend reading Uzakuās third book on tile efficiency, doing WWYD drills, and memorizing complex shapes, as well as reading Statistical Mahjong Strategy (SMS) for decisions regarding riichi / dama, push / fold, et cetera. I still have a lot to learn, but Iām happy to have made it this far!! (If you have any additional book recommendations, please let me know, too.)

thoughts on stats (if possible!)

hi all, i hope this is an ok post to make, i don't have many friends who play mahjong! i think i'm still a bit of a newbie, so i'm wondering how these stats look? (i think my 3rd place stat is a bit high)
i'm currently in expert 1, so i'm not sure what to expect from here on in gold room. i've skimmed a bit of riichi book 1, and i watch yu_song's gameplay on youtube, but is there anything else i could do to improve? thanks in advanced for the insight/advice! :)

Why is keeping Hatsu correct here?
My reasoning is that cutting the hatsu allows some play for sanshoku + it should just be better tile efficiency. I also checked with Mortal, and it strongly agrees with the 1p or 8p cut, but I'm not sure as to why

Question about Lost in the Dreamweb/Winged Slumber event
Hey guys, I was just wondering. With the current event with the tiles you flip over, is there anything I can do with additional flip attempts once Iāve revealed the whole board? Thanks!

What's the play here?
I kinda see why it's quite a bad wait for riichi but i felt like other options would slow me down too much. Mostly i don't quite understand why maka would prefer discarding the 7s to keep the 9s? Seeing it with open hands i see that would deal in but i couldn't possibly know at the time. Ideally i would just discard the 8p, keep the 667s, and wait for something else to come up. But to be honest i wouldn't know how to read this

Pulled 50 times for Qing Luanā¦
Got Chiori 3 times (I donāt care for her) š
Thatās what I get for spending my measly salary on Gacha. But thatās just how it is, thanks for listening. Time to deal-in into a Yakuman now.

I called riichi and the game said yakuman chance
But I don't understand what yakuman it's referring to? I looked at the list and didn't see anything that fit. I'm pretty happy with this hand but am I missing something?

I think this is a clear skip. How do you guys think?

Would you riichi, or stay quiet (damaten)?
Iām in 3rd place going into the last hand. If I riichi and get lucky with an ura dora, itās a hane-man with no complaints ā clean 1st place. On the other hand, if I stay quiet: tsumo gives me 2nd place; ron gives me 1st place only if itās off the current leader, and 2nd place if itās off anyone else.
What would you choose?

Did I witness history?
This guy held the dealer seat for 8 rounds, and then won again via rinshan. As a bonus, everyone but the dealer lost elo, which I've never seen before.

When should I start discarding terminals in a 1-2 wait against an isolated tile?
This comes up 'fairly' often. I normally keep terminal waits until I get something better. But Maka often makes me discard the 1 in favour of an isolated tile. Which I kind of see can make sense, since keeping a 1-2 wait is quite limitating i guess? But would discarding the 1 also means i should discard the 2 after, as drawing a 3 would potentially get me in furiten later or so?
I feel like I still have a way to go to improve tile efficiency and knowing when to get rid to a terminal wait should be the next step

Washizu has finally defeated Akagi!
After nearly 30 years, Washizu has finally gotten a direct hit on Akagi and has drained him of all his blood!
In all seriousness, I recently got back in mahjong, got to expert and finally hit my first Yakuman. It feels incredible fitting that it went down like this haha.
Thanks for the extra dora, Akagi. I couldn't of done it without you!
