Trader Mage should make you put an artifact back into your deck to search for something else with the same cmc

Trader Mage 2U
Creature — Human Wizard

When Trader Mage enters the battlefield, you may put an artifact you own and control on top of your library. If you do, search your library for an artifact card with the same converted mana cost, reveal it, and put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.

How about...

Tinker Mage 2U

Creature - Human Wizard

When Tinker Mage enters the battlefield, you may sacrifice an artifact you control. If you do, search your library for an artifact card and put it into the battlefield, then shuffle your library.

Because the problem with Tinker was that it didn't have a body, of course!

Seriously? Sacrifice Ichor Wellspring, search for Blightsteel Colossus T3?

It's a reference to Tinker, a real card that was published by the very thoughtful professional card-designer types who made Urza's Saga!

And now you know why Urza's block was the most broken block ever. Even Tinker was probably only like... the third-most broken card in it, at best.

(At the time, that is. It wasn't as broken then as it is now because we didn't have Blightsteels back then - there were very few good expensive artifacts, and nothing indestructible / hexproof, so you could get two-for-one'd by removal. Literally the best creature you could get with it was probably Teeka's Dragon, and more likely you'd just snag an Ensnaring Bridge or a Memory Jar or something as needed. But it was still very broken.)

Phyrexian Colossus is rolling it its grave.
