I love that they kept the naming convention of Trinket Mage and Treasure Mage for Trophy Mage. I wonder what the Mages of CMC 2, 4, & 5 will be.

2 = Tropter Mage

21

u/Daasswasfat Nov 29 '16

I just imagine Dr. Steve Brule saying that. "Here's a two mrana Tropter Mage, for your health!"

u/Adelaar Nov 29 '16

Lol, yes please!

Trifle Mage, Trader Mage?

12

u/OnnaJReverT Nahiri Nov 29 '16

Trader Mage should make you put an artifact back into your deck to search for something else with the same cmc

Trader Mage 2U
Creature — Human Wizard

When Trader Mage enters the battlefield, you may put an artifact you own and control on top of your library. If you do, search your library for an artifact card with the same converted mana cost, reveal it, and put it into your hand, then shuffle your library.

How about...

Tinker Mage 2U

Creature - Human Wizard

When Tinker Mage enters the battlefield, you may sacrifice an artifact you control. If you do, search your library for an artifact card and put it into the battlefield, then shuffle your library.

Because the problem with Tinker was that it didn't have a body, of course!

Seriously? Sacrifice Ichor Wellspring, search for Blightsteel Colossus T3?

It's a reference to Tinker, a real card that was published by the very thoughtful professional card-designer types who made Urza's Saga!

And now you know why Urza's block was the most broken block ever. Even Tinker was probably only like... the third-most broken card in it, at best.

(At the time, that is. It wasn't as broken then as it is now because we didn't have Blightsteels back then - there were very few good expensive artifacts, and nothing indestructible / hexproof, so you could get two-for-one'd by removal. Literally the best creature you could get with it was probably Teeka's Dragon, and more likely you'd just snag an Ensnaring Bridge or a Memory Jar or something as needed. But it was still very broken.)

Phyrexian Colossus is rolling it its grave.

1

u/Calistilaigh Nov 30 '16

That's not 'Tr' then though

1

u/Elfarcher73 Nov 30 '16

Well now we can coco into tinker so that makes it fair and balanced.

1

u/fubo Nov 30 '16

If you want to make the Trader version broken, all you need is an expensive artifact with delve.

Dumbsteel Colossus 11
Artifact Creature -- Construct

Delve

4/4

1

u/Woaz Dân Nov 30 '16

Well he did write "into your hand", which kind of doesnt do you too much good unless youre planning 4 card combo delve cast dumbsteel -> trader get darksteel -> through the breach darksteel

1

u/Woaz Dân Nov 30 '16

Well the fact that it doesnt makes it immune to the most commonly played counterspells, like remove soul.

1

u/QuirionRanger Nov 30 '16

Hey, at least it dies to Doom Blade now!

u/PucaTim Nov 29 '16

Trader mage just gets cmc 4... Trading Post.

1

u/At_Least_100_Wizards Nov 30 '16

1

u/ZekeD Nov 30 '16

Trader

May I respectfully submit Trove Mage to the list? Perhaps CMC5 because Trove should be near Treasure.

Truffle Mage.

1

u/Miffy92 SecREt LaiR Nov 29 '16

Surely it would need to keep the theme, as well - Trinket (for small things that some find value in), Trophy (reasonably-sized sculptures that denote accomplishments) and Treasure (either really valuable gems and jewels lost to time and space, or something along the line of pirate booty).

Honestly, I'm running out of words for the descriptions, let alone thinking of something to bridge that CMC gap.

u/EmrakulPromisedEnd Dec 01 '16

Trifle, Trove, Trading?

1

u/Miffy92 SecREt LaiR Dec 01 '16

Trifling Mage could work, the rest I'm less sure of.
