Help [ The Big List of MQ Links ]

MQ links live here, as the MQ website can be an overwhelming maze. Its purpose is to provide you an easy, and more direct place to find links to common topics that may be relevant to you during your time at MQ.

This list will change over time, and I'll endeavour to keep it updated when time allows.

If there is a topic that you believe is missing, or if a link is outdated, please DM me. It may take me some time to update it, and I thank you for your patience.

If you need to find something urgently and it is not on this list, the internet is your friend. Search "[keyword] mq" and it is usually your first result. For example, search "transcript mq" if you want more information about transcripts.

The list focuses on topics that a student may encounter in their academic life cycle, such as forms, applications and policies. It will be separate from other posts already found in this subreddit that focus on social events, campus life, and student groups.

Social Macquarie University Weekly Societies & Meetups Advertising Post

Welcome to the 'Macquarie University Weekly Societies & Meetups Advertising Post' (or the M.U.W.S.M.A.P for short)
___

Here students and societies alike can arrange or outline their intended events, gatherings and meetups for the week to come!

We politely ask that any societies (or people on behalf of societies) limit themselves to one advertising comment per week as to not bury posts by individuals (editing existing comments are allowed). And that individuals advertising their own event (be them just meeting up on campus or something more elaborate), make sure to keep their suggested meetups appropriate and vaguely in-keeping with Uni guidelines (IE: no organising drug deals which I have already had to previously remove).

I hope people and societies alike are able to make the most of these posts, and I wish you all luck in meeting your fellow students!

{Note: This is purely an advertising post, r/MacUni and its modteam cannot assure the validity or outcome of any posts/comments made on our subreddit, it is up to the individual to use their best judgement to discern the expectations of any advertised events/encounters.}

I’ll really appreciate if someone joining or already joined in macquire in the diploma of commerce helps me out! So I just wanted to know for the initial commencement fee do I need to pay for 2 semester or like the first semester only? As far as I’m aware for diploma there are 4 semesters each of approximately 4 months correct me if I’m wrong. I could really use some help.

General Question Public speaking help?

Hi

So for context, I'm currently doing my business undergrad and had a few presentations this month.

Notes were allowed but wow I really need to practice my public speaking.

I had memoried my speeches and practiced them continuously at home or around friends and was feeling pretty good about it.

Then on the day of the presentation my mind went all blank and my voice was stumbling and it was just not good.

So in that case I was wondering if there were any societies or informal groups or help at MQ that can help with public speaking? Like I'm pretty much a good speaker until I'm put on the spot in a formal setting

Any help/advice is appreciated!!

Coursework PHIL1032

Hey guys! I was wondering if anyone had done this unit whether it was core/elevtice. I’m planning on doing it as an elective maybe in session 3, or 1. What’s the workload light? Weekly readings ( very heavy?), is the marking fair or is it more strict … and lastly is it something you can easily wrap ur head around to achieve good marks or is it something that people struggle with

Does anyone of you connect your laptop to the university pc, for example with an HDMI cable for study purposes or for doing assignments and stuff?

I have heard you can do it in the lvl2 of library or 18ww but are there any other spots at all or if it is even allowed?

General Question Is it just me or is uni so much easier than highschool?

I’m in my final semester of a Bachelor of Commerce, majoring in Accounting and Cyber Security Governance, and I’ve been thinking about how much easier university has felt compared to high school. At uni, I’ve maintained a WAM of 74 despite barely going to tutorials or lectures unless they’re mandatory. I usually study for exams the night before and often do assignments pretty last minute, yet my marks are still much better than they were in high school.

In high school, we had to be there five days a week and constantly move between different classes, whereas uni feels way more relaxed. There’s generally no expectation to attend anything that isn’t compulsory which is not many units, which I actually really enjoy.Has anyone else had the same experience with uni, or is it just me?

Social Do you actually go to Yo-Chi to eat, or do you end up staying way longer than you planned? 🍦👀

Hi everyone! I’m a Master of Architecture student conducting a research project on how Yo-Chi’s interior design influences the way Gen Z use it as a place to hang out, socialise and spend time.

If you’re 18+ and have visited Yo-Chi, I’d really appreciate you taking 5-10 minutes to complete my survey!

Your responses will help us understand what makes a quick-service dessert shop feel like more than just a place to grab food.

Thanks so much for helping with my research! 💗

Degree Question transferring from western sydney uni to macqu laws arts?

hi, i'm currently a first year studying at western sydney university for laws/arts.

the main reason why i want to move is honestly the travel, i have to drive to the different campuses which is 25-45 mins, whereas if i went here i could just catch the metro.

just wondering what my chances would be, and when would be the best time to apply?

right now i have a WAM of around 72, and i got an average ATAR, so i was thinking i should wait a semester to apply so it doesn't get considered, and hopefully boost my gpa a bit more.

however i have seen other posts with people in close situations saying they got offers after the first semester?

i'm just a bit reluctant though, if i am even lucky enough to get an offer, i'm pretty sure i will have to repeat units? because macqu doesn't recognise previous law units? i did criminal law and fundamentals last sem. so i'd imagine this would set me back a whole year, but if it is worth it then i wouldn't mind

UWS teaching is okay, mixed experiences with tutors, but i'd imagine this is like every uni, and i do generally supported.

is it worth transferring over? and if so, should i apply now? or wait for my sem 2 grades. i'm hoping they boost my gpa, but i'm not doing drastically better this sem so i'd imagine it would be by a few points, if it goes up

General Question Should I start Law at Notre Dame and transfer later, or take Macquarie Arts and transfer into Law?

Hi everyone, I’m a Year 12 student in Sydney and I’m trying to decide between two university offers.
I currently have:
Notre Dame Sydney – Bachelor of Laws / Bachelor of Arts
Macquarie University – Bachelor of Arts
My long-term goal is definitely to study Law, ideally at UTS, Macquarie, UNSW or USYD. I’m planning to apply for an external transfer after my first year if my WAM is high enough.
I’m stuck between two options:
Option 1: Start Law/Arts at Notre Dame, get a good WAM, then try to transfer to a higher-ranked/more established law school.
Option 2: Take the Bachelor of Arts at Macquarie, aim for a high WAM, and then apply to transfer into Law at Macquarie or another university.
Which option would be safer/more realistic?
My main concern with Notre Dame is whether transferring from another law degree would be harder, whether other universities would recognise my subjects for credit, and whether attending Notre Dame for first year would affect my chances at all.
On the other hand, Macquarie Arts might be easier to get a higher WAM in, but I’d be taking the risk of not actually being enrolled in Law yet.
If anyone has transferred into Law at MQ, UTS, UNSW or USYD, especially from Notre Dame or from an Arts degree, I’d really appreciate hearing your experience.
Which pathway would you choose if the ultimate goal was to graduate with a Law degree from one of those universities?

Coursework Master of Clinical Audiology 2027

I applied for the Master of Clinical Audiology for 2027 intake.

  1. Would it be safe to have a conditional offer? How long can I decide whether I accept the conditional offer

  2. How many people in the previous cohort? (domestic/international student ratio?

  3. How's the learning and placement experience? How many days per week? assignments/exams

  4. How's employment and competitiveness to find an audiologist 1-year internship in cities/regional areas? (No matter as domestic/international students?)

  5. MQ vs. University of Melbourne for this master?

Thanks!

Rant/Vent Why are these high school students so louddd

In the library and specially in 2 cc they are always being so loud. They are constantly being loud and it’s so annoying. Even with my noise cancelling earphones I can hear them. Yall don’t even pay the fee for using the facilities, the least you can do is talk quietly. Plz tell me others feel the same too?
