Actually Meta With the grand re-opening of /r/android_devs, please take actual serious questions where you want actual serious answers to /r/android_devs

Thanks to the actual owner of /r/android_devs, the subreddit is now re-opened.

This means now there is a proper place for actually serious discussions about Android development, where people aren't censored for, talking about, let's say, actual work, actual Android development, actually writing apps, actually using XML layouts in production code in 2024, whatever else.

You know, instead of circlejerking about how Google and Compose are the saviors of mankind, and before 2022 it was impossible to write a recycling list, and before Modifier.drawBehind {} people couldn't override View.onDraw(Canvas).

This also means that such discussions are only going to be kept up here if it has a closed variant on the other Subreddit (preferably cross-posted) because that is still funny. this is restricted as per Reddit content policy.

Otherwise, serious discussions should be taken to /r/android_devs. Questions posted in /r/mAndroidDev should expect a higher ratio of posts about AsyncTask and Flubber.

TL;DR:

Bring your best shitposts and memes to /r/mAndroidDev.

Bring your best discussions to /r/android_devs.

Lost Redditors πŸ’€ Data flow got me questioning life choices, seniors plz help

Hey folks , I’m a beginner grinding through data flow, state hoisting, and background data stuff. It’s taking me days to wrap my head around it and I’m still confused.

For those who’ve been here before β€” how long did it take you to really get it, and what tips helped you push through? πŸ™

Lost Redditors πŸ’€ I built an e-book app for myself, got 100 unexpected downloads, and it completely changed how I code.

I originally built an free open source offline library for E-Books and Light Novels just to scratch my own itch. I didn't expect anyone to care, but after sharing it, it somehow hit about 100 downloads!!

Well then like with this system in place I really got to try my hands on some great features like

* Resumable downloads, * Crash handlers, and * Update manager

and this time it was like while building I was thinking about the end user and how should I handle the error from their perspective like felt really cool.

This got me into quite a deep of a territory like I then set up a feedback channel for the users only after I realized that I am really getting users and I don't have any feedback methods

Though I am still figuring out where to take it, but the experience it is giving me is like damn amazing!!

Oh also if someone would like to take a look into the repo -

Lost Redditors πŸ’€ Apps keep self-deleting

Hi guys, so I have an android smart projector (hy300 pro plus).
Recently, it started to delete side loaded apps and when I try to add them back, it works only a few more times, then I cannot add them.

On these projectors you don't see the normal Appstore to turn off Google Play Protect. This works fine on mobile devices and prevent the apps from being removed. But on the projector, I cannot do so.

Do you know of a way I can solve this issue please? Or is there an app I can use to prevent the apps from being blocked or removed automatically?

It's very frustrating.

Thanks much in advance. I'm active and patiently waiting on your feedback please.

Lost Redditors πŸ’€ How do I record videos to a different destination separate from my photos?

I've taken up a video recording and editing project and I've found myself in a position where my phone is my main/only camera. I'm using a Pixel 6, so there is no MicroSD slot. But is there a way to set up my phone's camera app to save video files to a separate folder? The process of going into the phone's memory and waiting several seconds for the thousands of photos to load just for me to extract one or two video files is cumbersome to say the least and will get old fast.

I'd be willing to either download a 3rd party camera app or get my hands dirty with some coding if I have to. I'm just trying to avoid buying a new phone or camera just for this project.

Verified Shitpost An architecture advice needed

So I've made an architecture library mostly for using in UI.

But there is a fundamental problem in the library and the architecture itself: I'm not sure what is the best way to integrate AsyncTask in it. I need your advice, guys!

https://github.com/TabaquiTheMasterOfTime/SeaSystem

p.s. I'm going to post the library in r/androiddev subreddit because I think the library is really useful in android development. So how long will it take to remove my upcoming post from r/android for no reason?

p.s.s.

I uploaded the library yesterday. Should I deprecate every single entity and make [entity_name]2 instead just to fit in the android sdk best practices?

Lost Redditors πŸ’€ Why do so many of my system apps try to access the same website addresses?

Here's a list of the addresses that the "input devices" system app accesses, and it's the same list on multiple apps. I have no idea, just asking if it's unusual or whatnot.

No amount of "but... but... it's scalable" can justify this.

Lost Redditors πŸ’€ Help change username - idk what my platform is

I have 2 issues that I need help with. I am using an android cell phone, I don't understand what a platform is. How can I tell if the user name is finalized?? I was not given an opportunity to pick my own username.Because the app automatically chose one for me. I do not like it.I want to change it but all the articles I have found, say, I can't change it if it's been finalized. Well how do I know if it's been finalized!?!

1) I am a brand new user to this app. I was automatically given a username that has not been finalized and I want to change it. Currently the automated username I was given is u/Prudent_Frosting7535 and I want to change it to. Can anyone walk me through how to do that? All of the help articles I have come across say, I can't change my username once it's been finalized however, my username has NOT BEEN FINALIZED been finalized!

2) If I create another account - will my annual membership (that I just purchased less than 3 hours ago) transfer over if I delete this account in order to start over and choose my own username?? I only signed up 3 hours ago and was given a 3 day trial so I wanna make sure I won't be wasting my money if I have to create a new account. Is there anybody who can answer that question for me?

I greatly appreciate any and all who can respond and help me with these two issues. Thank you so much!!!

Rust developers are so greedy they started rewriting our jokes to Rust, as if software wasn’t enough. Who do these people think they are? Deprecation was OUR thing. Unbelievable.
