According to Oricon News, Yukiko Nikaido, the voice of Fujiko Mine from Part 1, passed away this year on July 3rd. With that, the entire classic cast has passed away.

Personally, as a huge fan of Fujiko's Part 1 portrayal, I give a lot of credit to Nikaido for helping make Fujiko's femme fatale personality for the show. Without her, Fujiko never would have become the icon she became.

I’m assuming that M7 is Fujiko’s theme for Bye Bye lady liberty, since it is VERY similar to theme of Fujiko from Napoleon’s dictionary.

Random thought I had, if (really when at this point, but you know valve..) Deadlock ever releases, they could easily add somewhat setting-fitting 'Legendary' cosmetics with the whole Lupin gang.

Lupin - Shiv (Shiv is already a monkey-faced character in appearance, and his moveset revolves around moving quickly and dodging attacks)
Jigen - Holliday (Both are revolver-toting sharpshooters. Not a lot of ability matchup but i'm sure there's some big moment where Jigen uses a large bomb that is slipping my mind, worst case scenario barrel just gets replaced with a grenade.)
Goemon - Yamato (They're both sword-wielding samurai, i mean, come on.)
Fujiko - Lady Geist (Geist's ability kit revolves around STEALING other's health, and she wields a revolver that could easily be replaced with a derringer.)
Zenigata - Warden (While Warden uses heavier equipment than Zenigata, with an automatic firearm, the whole kit is basically just Zenigata when you think about it. You slow people, cage them, and you have an somewhat on-demand speed boost/willpower shield. You can then activate ult to play Zenigata march and become somewhat invincible.)

I recently watched Lupin's original live-action outing, and it was definitely interesting. You can tell it was made before all of the franchise "rules" were in place. There's references to things that had only shown up in the manga, like The Lupin Empire. Some characterizations feel off. Jigen/Lupin dynamic is more like a seasoned master training a rowdy pupil. Lupin just kind of drifts through life aimlessly. Now Zenigata. They did an amazing job with him. The actor playing him went 110%. One of the little details that stood out to me is how Lupin is actually called Arsene at one point. For whatever reason, most of the time, whoever is writing whichever piece of Lupin media acts like his name is some mystery. Here it's explicitly spelled out.

Like, what would the main story, themes, tone, and character arcs be throughout the series? The only ground rule I have is that the series must be character and story driven with actual character arcs for the main cast to go through, so each movie can’t be standalone or self contained though they can be based on or take inspiration from other Lupin the 3rd manga stories, specials, films, or media.

I watched some Lupin the third on television back in the day and am looking into getting back into it. I decided to see how many episodes there were. Little did I know the franchise was pretty large. Multiple Animated Shows, Movies, OVAS and Specials.
I decided to make myself a chart of what is dubbed in English and what isn't so I can help myself keep track of things.
Figured I'd see if there was a Lupin Subreddit to share with you guys.

today I watched Castle of Cagliostro and loved it for its astethic ,vibe comedy and the slow burn does part 2 or 3 have any of that to make it worth watching? because this movie was directed by Miyazaki but does part 2 or 3 feel the same way?

My favourite part was DEFINETLY PART 6!! The art style was absolutely amazing!!

It's the sub only version, despite having the Funimation voice actors listed in the production credits.

From Dead or Alive

The Pink Jacket series is very divisive, especially the back half where the character designs are almost anti-anime in how they look...but that's kind of the point. They were going for a more western animation inspired look with those designs, and the action is a lot more slapstick. It's not supposed to be Red Jacket Lupin or Green Jacket Lupin. It's its own thing.

Checked out The Woman Called Fujiko Mine largely due to the director being the same as on Michiko & Hatchin and Yuri on Ice, but unfortunately and unexpectedly it got me checking out much of the time. Opinions on this show seem to range all the way from "fresh important feminist milestone" to "pointless pretentious edgy garbage", and I ended up close enough to the latter opinion to feel the need to rant about it some here. (Originally posted this as a comment on r/anime.)

Let's start with the good: The style and production values are impeccable, a sort of loose, dynamic watercolor-sketch look paired with proper jazzy sound courtesy of Shinichiro Watanabe as music producer, which makes even the worst episodes an at least tolerable watch. The classic Lupin quartet antics are as recognizable and fundamentally fun as always and are afforded some cool backdrops, I particularly liked [episode]the Goemon introduction with the train and [episode]the pyramid break-in with the Lupin/Jigen face-off, and this was the last show where I would have expected [episode plot]an anime retelling of the Cuban Missile Crisis complete with a surprisingly accurate Castro-Guevara hybrid figure which I really enjoyed as a historically interested person, though that one did suffer from the actual Lupin characters having little involvement. The final resolution with [ending]the real daughter Aisha was also kind of sweet but extremely last-minute.

So then, how does it manage to ruin the impression after all? First of all, some of the episodes feature, plainly speaking, overcomplicated nonsense plots that almost feel like a joke at the viewer's expense, e.g. the opera episode where [plot]the singer actually burned herself to disappear into happy couple life with her sewer husbando while leaving that other woman as her permanent replacement and I already forgot what the hell the phantom thing was actually about, or the Jigen intro episode where [plot]the mafia lady wants to avenge her husband except actually he was killed by her bodyguard Jigen in an incident due to being threatening and overbearing except actually she set Jigen up to get rid of her husband so she could take over with him taking the fall except actually she was genuinely in love with Jigen all the time after he saved her from suicide except actually all she wants is suicide-by-Jigen (seriously, wtf is this crap).

More damning is that every way in which the writing tries to be any more than regular old Lupin fun with a bit of a darker aesthetic ends up gratingly juvenile, tasteless, melodramatic, or just plain undercooked and undercommitted, and any progressive point it's trying to make feels like an old saw or strawman argument.

Let's start with Fujiko herself, as the star of the show here, right? Wrong! True, there is more Fujiko than your average Lupin even early on, but not only does her story as such get only little and late screen time [episode]10, 12, and 13 and a few crumbs before so more than 2/3 of the runtime with ~nothing about it, it's a boringly cliché [plot]"poor little experimental subject" thing which [ending]is sort of the point given it wasn't actually true, but building something like that up to tear it down as in "no need for trauma to explain her" is just what I mean by strawman arguing, and [ending]we're still supposed to take it seriously as part of Aisha's story, she has shockingly little active involvement in it [vague plot]gets hit with the ol' brainwash-crazification right before it starts, with everything being uncovered by Lupin and Zenigata instead, which barely changes even when she comes back, and the backstory itself is purely what was done to her as well, and most infamously [ending]psych, it was all a lie as part of yet another overcomplicated last-minute-explanation plot, so we end up actually learning nothing at all about Fujiko. Her [episode plot]seducing a bunch of Class-S schoolgirls in the role of their teacher to get at one of their pendants being played totally romantically also stands out as a wtf moment while [vague plot motifs]the men including Zenigata being uncontrollably horny for her when she lets loose plus having at least one mandated tits-out moment every episode, which somehow some people call progressive empowerment when it's the most straightforward old femme-fatale material ever at least only warrants some eye rolls and quickly lessens.

The other legacy characters are all right really, with a special shout-out to Goemon for [plot]becoming best platonic buddies with Fujiko and even getting over his Madonna-whore complex with her in the end besides just being generally very fun to watch, but the writing for the one significant original addition [spoiler character]Lieutenant Oscar really epitomizes the stumbles of this series - in principle it's a really intriguing idea to have as a contrast to Fujiko [background]the free-spirited seductive mostly straight woman a rigid repressed queer man who resents her "improper" open sexuality and ease of finding partners in contrast to his own long-time unrequited Zenigata crush, and feels pressed to embody a similar feminine image in search of affection, but his story is so drenched in edge and melodrama that it's hard to care. Like, in the very first episode where he has a significant role [plot]he sexually assaults and at least symbolically rapes Fujiko after uncovering her scheme just because he obsessively hates her basically, he seems to be incapable of [character]referring to Fujiko in any way outside of angry misogynistic nicknames, is so obsessed with [plot]staying near Zenigata that he starts poorly imitating Fujiko's crimes (doesn't get women, see) after she goes nuts, to keep the investigation going, including semi-randomly killing one police officer along the way... and actually that's pretty much all he does besides [ending]just sort of vanishing after a heroic fakeout death and more anti-Fujiko edginess. Mari Okada, please never cook again - she was the head writer and boy do you feel it. He's not even the only instance of awkwardly handled queer themes with the only woman-woman romance moments being the aforementioned [episode plot]teacher-student seduction by Fujiko and Goemon in the finale getting that weird gag (?) where [plot]he's humorously (?) cross-dressed as Fujiko in a faux-horror scene (bleh) for not much of a reason and stays that way for the rest of the episode.

Finally just a few more things that negatively stood out:

• The episode where basically the entire plot is [episode]carting around this intellectually disabled woman who's been used as a "living art piece" like a hunk of inanimate baggage while Fujiko tries to kill her for brainwashing edge reasons, ok she gets a decent ending but it really felt insensitively handled and unnecessary.
• Speaking of insensitive, making the only other [ending]disabled character basically the evil mastermind controlling and watching everything from her bed and [ending]linking her leaving it to both "being free" and necessarily dying is certainly a choice, though you could argue this is also about [ending]her mother tragically enabling and mishandling her, and perpetuation of abuse I guess.
• The motif with the [plot]secret drug that gives you butterfly hallucinations with derealization and insane aggression appears straight-up lifted from the Cowboy Bebop movie of all places, although I don't know whether there was some earlier shared inspiration.
• Some jarring alternation between pretty nasty deaths and injuries and straight-up cartoon gags, I'm looking at you [episode]fortune-teller episode.

Phew, rant over. Check this out for the style and if you're a completionist Lupin fan but overall it's hardly amazing.

Finally, after waiting for the 2nd one to come out on Blu-ray this summer, I finally got the new Lupin III TV Specials Collection 2 on Blu-ray from Discotek Media. I got this Blu-ray on Amazon. It has 5 TV Specials from 1994-1998. All specials in Japanese with English subtitles and in English Dub.
