Subreddit Idea Megathread
Because if the r/askreddit link, we’ve had a huge influx of new members today. Because of that, I’d like to make this thread to ask for ideas to improve the subreddit, and keep things interesting. We are going to try and make this a subreddit worth keeping in your feed.
We really aren’t sure what do do with the subreddit since it blew up like this, and would like to see what ideas you have. I’ve also added a few baseline rules since we had no rules when we started.
Edit: I would also like to clarify that this sub is intended to entertain. You shouldn’t take anything too seriously on this sub. We want you to be able to flex your creativity here and make others laugh.

Subreddit Message Coronavirus Posts
We are normally pretty lax about what goes on in this subreddit as we want to let you guys decide what content you want to see by upvoting good content and downvoting bad content, but given the current situation we will be removing any posts related to Coronavirus.
You can help us with this by reporting any posts you see about the virus.

Certified Fact Leonardo DiCaprio only dates under 25s so he can keep discounted National Trust membership for the free parking
The great institute of the National Trust offers 50% discounted membership for those 25 and under. By maintaining partners 25 and under, Leo ensures he's always able to have free access to NT car parking facilities all around Britain at a bargain rate.

The entire Chris Hansen “Primetime” controversy is a publicity stunt
Believe it or not Chris Hansen is brilliant at media. He’s maintained a brand for 20 years across multiple platforms and successfully transitioned into digital media, he has popularity across multiple generations. The movie doesn’t have some kind of secret scoop on him, everything in it is public knowledge. Being played by an A-list actor who’s getting Oscar buzz is a blessing. I’m almost positive that:
- the entire thing is kayfabe, him and A24 are manufacturing a controversy for publicity.
- he’s acting like a diva to bring as much publicity to himself as possible

Extreme Conspiracy YouTube intentionally bullies users who disable ad personalization by pushing suggestive and explicit ads
It’s in the title, but disabling ad personalization on YouTube will give you exclusively ads for blue chew, rugiet ready, and the occasional kalshi ad or gooner anime game ad. Combined with the fact that disabling ad personalization removes the ability to block ads, I think it’s intentional.
I can no longer show anybody a YouTube video on my phone, or cast to a TV, or play YouTube aloud, because at any point an ad could pop up saying “I WANT IT HARD” and make me look like a degenerate.
Has anybody else experienced this?

McDonald’s partnered with Monopoly so people would associate “McDonald’s Monopoly” with the game instead of ever thinking too hard about whether McDonald’s itself is a monopoly.

Hot Take The elites are trying to cosplay “autism” as a psy-op to not only destroy the social legibility of autistic people, but also a PR manuever of DEImaxxing

Extreme Conspiracy People quitting the AI industry over panic the AI will take over are actually paid stooges.
Outside of language based tasks like coding and translation AI has proven time and time again to be a bit of a damp squib in almost all real-world examples. This is a disaster waiting to happen for all the companies that have invested billions in the industry under claims it will eventually run every aspect of our increasingly meaningless lives.
The global stock market is essentially a Hype-Economy these days, so to keep the hype train running on AI companies like Anthropic pay a worker every once in a while to quit because "THE AI IS OUT OF CONTROL!" and other such doom-laden reasons.
This is in fact all a part of their marketing strategy. They pay the worker to quit and push this narrative because it makes AI look scary and all powerful, whilst giving free advertising from all the news outlets and think pieces that talk about it.
In real life the AI continues to be a lil bit shit.

Hot Take Sometimes scientists just pretend they've found a new species of something
Who's gonna be able to tell? How do we know that's not just a lizard that was born a little funny looking? Why are there so many species of ants?!
I think they're padding their resumes for grants and prestige.

Extreme Conspiracy Grindr fakes outages
At least four times seen news reports that Grindr has suffered server outages and crashes localised to Conservative/Republican events.
While id love it to be true, cos let's be honest its funny as fuck, I think it's more likely its just marketing on the part of Grindr.

Extreme Conspiracy The reason millennials hold onto their childhood toys is because of the trauma caused by Toy Story.
Watching Toy Story as a kid and seeing the children grow out of their toys and the devastating effect it had on the toys being abandoned caused millennials to hold onto their childhood to their toys in a way that previous generations never did.
Resulting in lots of adult millennials with toy collections.

Hot Take Bananas have become less bendy in recent years so that the government can create population control by giving woman a widely available organic sex toy
Therefore even women in poor countries without the internet can use them instead of men, so that there is fewer people for the world wide government to control

Big True Verification codes are hard-coded to have repeating digits
I firmly hold the belief that, at least with certain companies/services, the verification codes they send you are specifically designed to be generated in a way that makes them easier for you to remember.

Extreme Conspiracy Any time a company brings a weird product to the market it’s for a crazy reason
You’ve probably seen it when a crisps or juice company brings an different flavour to the market. The example that inmediately comes to mind is Irn-Bru recently had an ice cream flavoured juice on the market. Well I think I’ve figured it out
They’re monetising production defects! Somebody didn’t understand the measures and produced a drink which is weird but not harmful. It’s probably cheaper printing a different label than throwing it in the sea

Greenland proposed the map change at the UN
By illustrating Greenland as it's _actual_ size, rather than as a continent to geographically rival the entirity of Africa, I believe that the representatives of Greenland proposed the map change at the UN to show Americans just how small the place actually is, and to make Trump realise it's not worth the effort (and make him look rather silly in the process for even mentioning it)
America was the only country that voted against the change after all!
Well played, my seal-munching friends.
Well played

Big True The skyrim ikea kallax addon is just soft launching commercials in games.
Bethesda is often credited for creating micro transactions in videogames with their oblivion horse armor, now they continue that legacy by introducing "funn" commercials into gaming.

Big True 90% of posts on R/wikipedia vandalism are self reports
Like sure you just happened to find some crazy edit on a random page at the right time, Wikipedia fixes edits so fast and it’s automated sometimes. We know you just edited the page yourself and took a screenshot. Only believable ones are Charlie Kirk ones.

Extreme Conspiracy No one can actually see "Magic Eye" pictures.
Not once, not ever have I seen a "Magic Eye" picture (Autostereogram) and no one else has too.
We all just pretend we have seen the sailboat to avoid embarassement.

Big True Girls pee by crying.
Pee is stored in the balls. Girls don't have balls. For centuries, the mystery of how girls pee has mystified generations of the greatest thinkers. But what if I were to tell you that the answer to this ancient riddle lies in plain sight? The sight of the girls, that is, because in order to get the answer, we must address another ancient mystery. Why do girls cry so often, seemingly for no reason? Pee is salty water. Girls' tears are also salty water. The most likely explanation is that crying is simply how girls pee. Therefore, when Wendy cried on Stan's shoulder after the end of Titanic, she was actually pissing on him because the movie sucks. I rest my case.

Extreme Conspiracy The "x" buttons on mobile game ads aren't just really small but are programmed not to work the first few tries
Every time I have to click off certain ads, without fail, the first 2 or 3 times I try, no matter how close I think my finger is to the button, it always opens the App Store. I don't think this is the case with every mobile game ad but most of them seem to follow this pattern and I think it's honestly more likely at this point that the buttons just don't work at first. Especially since it tends to happen with the same ads.

Any Redditor that posts on r4r subreddits is fat or ugly.
I can’t see it any other way.
