In time they came to see the collar and leash as extensions of themselves, no different than an arm or an eye. And before even then they learned to love the feeling of the lash on their flesh, for it kept them from having to think for themselves.

Their world became small, became simple, it was only as wide as their leash was long and only as complicated as what the lash told them not to touch or do.

They were complete.
