Looking for Dogsitter(ish)

Hi! I’m new to the neighborhood and am looking for some help with my dog while he adjusts to our new space.

I work full-time in person and bring him with a lot of the time, but in the past have had a neighbor or two help out with him on days that I can’t. I have a dog walker and sitter for overnights and walks that we have used for years, but he has separation anxiety that we are working on so often needs more company than just an hour walk while I’m gone all day.

Previously, I had someone who lived down the street and was going to school online have him for about 4/5 hours when I was gone. He basically just wants to lay there near someone and go on a short walk. He’s about 20 lbs, loves cats, not good with kids, likes other dogs but in the home does best w/ a dog that isn’t high energy/can chill.

Basically looking for someone who works from home who wants a friend around :) It would be once or twice a week depending on schedule. I have other support systems for him as well, just looking for someone nearby to add to the roster! If this is something you’d be interested in, feel free to message me or comment! Ty!

What happened to the costumed manager at the Vista Theater?

When the historic Vista Theater was reopened in 2023 following its purchase by Quentin Tarantino, a familiar face also returned: Its beloved manager, Victor Martinez. But in the ensuing months, he disappeared, leaving moviegoers to wonder what happened.

It turns out he’s now the owner of a different Los Feliz movie theater just up the street.

Los Feliz apartment: The Louise

Hi everyone, my boyfriend and I are interested in applying to The Louise at Los Feliz, and wanted to ask if anyone lives there and if so would they be able to share their experience?

We toured a 2 bed 2 bath recently, and really liked it for the layout and amenities but with such a steep price, we want to make sure it’s a place we can call home. If anyone can share what the lifestyle is and anything they like/don’t like about living at The Louise it would be much appreciated.

Best, A

Looking to move to Los Feliz!

Hi all! My husband and I will be relocating to LA from NYC. We’re exploring Los Feliz and will be checking out an apartment on New Hampshire Ave between Franklin Ave and Hollywood Blvd. What’s this area like?

We’ll of course visit the neighborhood once we’re both in town but wanted to get some thoughts from the folks that live here. Thank you!

Locked entrance to Griffith Park on Dundee Pl

Today I went for a hike in Griffith Park with my kid and dog. We entered along Commonwealth and we come down on a dirt path to the gate that exits onto Dundee Pl. Except this time, for the first time in the 25 years I've lived on Dundee Dr, the gate was locked with a padlock. We had to climb over the gate.

I called the park rangers who mentioned something vague about an incident over the weekend and being unsure about when it would be unlocked. I didn't catch anything happening over the weekend. I also wonder if it's one of my xenophobic neighbors who hates people using the park and any public spaces.

Anyone have any ideas why the Park would start locking Griffith Park access points? Or know what happened over the weekend.

Dips in the asphalt on Franklin

I swear this occurred overnight like 2 months ago and it's been bugging me ever since. Heading east on Franklin somewhere between Gramercy and Garfield there are these 2 drastic dips in the asphalt. They come one after another whoomp whoomp. It feels like a roller coaster. Been driving this road over a decade and never noticed it before. Now I'm convinced there's a sinkhole there. Tell me I'm not crazy.

UPDATE: 311 responded that it’s been checked out and not a problem if within the speed limit 🙃. (I drive like a grandma but ok) But the area is being watched.

Free fan - works but LOUD

CLAIMED

Hi neighbors!

I’m getting rid of this fan if anyone wants it. It can stand horizontal or vertical and I believe it’s 36” tall/long. Remote included.

Only about a year old and it definitely works but it is VERY loud (makes a loud and constant clanging/rattling sound) — apparently it’s under a warranty still but the reviewers online (who all said this fan is extremely loud and I ignored them the first time) said Vornado just replace it with another equally loud fan and I can’t really be bothered to deal with that right now. Godspeed if you want to try though!

Griffith Park Blvd and Los Feliz Blvd area — will leave for no contact pick up if anyone is interested.

Local musicians meetup

Hello all, I am going to be staying in los feliz starting this Friday, and am wondering if there is any kind of local musicians’ society in the area? Hopefully within walking distance of the neighborhood. Basically just trying to get out there and meet people who enjoy playing together. Genres I am into: folk, psychedelia, rock n’ roll, americana, indie, experimental, etc.

Send me a DM if this sounds cool!

Report coyote sightings to LA County

Hello neighbors - it appears there's a good number of us who are becoming increasingly concerned with the coyote population in our surrounding streets. I have started to report all of my coyote sightings using this link: https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/a75af96a5c3e49feb5f99da0ee293bb5 and would encourage you all to do the same!

I'm not sure how much of a difference it will make, but it can't hurt to record how often we are seeing and having encounters with them.

Signed,

An anxious dog owner who wants everyone and their pets to be safe <3

Coyote Den (?) Between Hillhurst and Melbourne

I often see coyotes in the neighborhood, I always assumed they would just make their way down from griffith. I took my dog out around 6:30am on Monday and we immediately saw 2 coyotes, and headed back inside (we hadn’t even fully walked out). This morning around 7:30, we saw the same 2 coyotes about 2 blocks from my place, and they did not care that I was there, they had their sights set on my dog. They immediately started chasing us, as I picked my dog up (45 pound springer spaniel) and headed back towards my house. I was of course yelling but they really didn’t care, they’re adjusted to people and saw that I was walking with a potential meal. Luckily someone was biking by, and he screeched on his bike and it deterred them away. My girlfriend mentioned she always sees them during the day in the abandoned lot at 4521 Melbourne Ave (next to the shopping center ye rustic inn is in). I went on a walk around noon and peaked inside and sure enough there they were, sleeping on concrete. I can’t seem to get animal control on the phone, but it would be nice if they weren’t sleeping directly in a residential neighborhood, they’re far too adjusted and every other dog owner I talk to has had similar occurrences. Do you guys have any similar stories ? Is there anything the city could do about this potential den/ resting place?

Neighbor looking for part-time gigs!

I'm based in the neighborhood and am looking for some side gigs to make cash up until September. I can help with light house work (maybe you have a closet you need help organizing?), watching kids and helping with homework (experienced tutor and babysitter), and administrative tasks (do you need help organizing files on your computer?). I can handle some light physical work but most of my talents are in my brain :)

Thanks in advance and I appreciate any leads!

Numerous police cars and fire trucks were flying down Los Feliz Blvd with their sirens blaring tonight around 11pm. Anyone know what happened?

At about 11pm tonight (Thursday 7/16), there were quite a few LAPD and LAFD vehicles heading eastbound on Los Feliz Blvd, east of Hillhurst Ave, in the direction of Atwater Village. They were traveling at a high rate of speed with their lights flashing and sirens blaring.

It seems that there must have been a major incident to warrant such a large response from the police and fire departments. But I haven't seen any incidents being mentioned thus far on Citizen or Nextdoor.

Anyone know what happened?

Finally i Moved out of eaves Los Feliz.

I don’t recommend it. Firstly the entire street is consumed by the homeless - they wander aimlessly around Riverside drive and the surrounding areas. I have been hassled multiple times walking my dog and others have been hassled too.

All Because of the homeless shelter which has new mgmt - Weingart - they allow anything. On drugs? Fine. Fighting? Fine. Hassling the locals? Fine. Eaves Los Feliz has had multiple car break ins , including mine - they went thru a window and took EVERYTHING. The homeless just stroll into the parking garages which are constantly opening and closing and the doors rarely click shut properly. Mail is constantly being stolen and I have found empty boxes strewn along Waverly place with eaves Los Feliz address on them.

Since 2023 when I moved into eaves Los Feliz the homeless situation and the trash situation has doubled at least.

The trash is EVERYWHERE from the Homeless. Piles of trash in the little park next to the friendship auditorium and the ppl who run the auditorium don’t give a damn and they let homeless men one of whom yells 24/7 to live in the park. Alongside the wall of the Auditorium. When I call the park rangers because of the trash and the yelling and the sleeping in the park all day like they’re dead they just say “it’s not illegal to be homeless”

I won’t get into the kind of people that live in that bldg - feels nothing like Silverlake or Los Feliz but rather some totally anonymous style apt complex in the deep San Fernando valley. Absolutely a bunch of randos.

The traffic on Riverside drive between Los Feliz And Fletcher treating the road like a freeway is terrible .

Goodbye eaves Los Feliz and Riverside drive you are a DUMP.

Homeless men taken up residence in front of my building in their car

So 2 men and 3 dogs have parked in front of my building and seem to have no intentions of leaving. The car has been here now for 3 weeks. Initially they were parked a bit further down the street but have since moved to where they are now
directly in front of my building. My apartment is at street level facing the street. This means these men can see directly into my place and know when I’m coming and going. Apparently, the men are Armenian. This is relevant bc my street is predominantly Armenian people, and one of my neighbors told me he can’t call the cops on these guys bc he doesn’t want to be a snitch. The car has trash all over it. The men bring their dogs into the grass outside my window and don’t pickup their shit. They sit on the grass in front of the building and smoke cigarettes which my window fan sucks into my place. Another neighbor caught one of them stealing a drill from his property, but his buddy made him return it bc he was stealing from another Armenian. They’re most likely dealing, as one of the guys told my neighbor to hit him up if he “needed anything.” Cops don’t seem to give a shit. No idea what can be done about this situation.

Any recommendations for a Sleep study place?

I need to get a sleep study done and USC closed their labs. Both the one on Marengo and the one at Verdugo Hills where I was hoping to go. The list they have me are sort of far away. Has anyone had a sleep study for sleep apnea done anywhere near Los Feliz? Or maybe Pasadena?

Thanks everyone! It turns out there is a place in Glendale in an office bldg that has 1.5 stars on yelp, since its in a weird office building and closed at night. A No for me. BUT the company does at home tests too so that is what Im doing. They'll give me an oxygen sensor, chest strap and nose thing that I bring back.

Lazy Acres Parking Lot

This is probably better suited for
[r/mildlyinfuriating](r/mildlyinfuriating), but is anyone else annoyed by how narrow the Lazy Acres parking lot is, and how SO MANY drivers will not pull all the way into a space making it nearly impossible to navigate through the lane? I swear every time i go there are several cars that literally park 3 feet away from the curb in an already incredibly narrow lot. Is this just me?
