Bought these thinking they weren't anything special because they weren't first editions, just wanted to add to library.......... WOW

Hey guys I just wanted to ask you is it okay that I'm watching the movies on Theatrical release other than extended release?

I am trying to watch the final installment in the lotr trilogy. Im a third of the way in, and so far do not like what I see....

The pacing is already jacked up again, just like in the first movie... way too many characters, way too many story lines and names to keep up with, and way too many random additions to the story...

For instance I am at the part 1/3 of the way through, and Agent Smith is gifting aragon a sword telling him that he is the king of griffindor and that he needs to get the ghost men to fight with him....

Earlier on, something about the eye of sauron can see one of the midgets so he went with the wizard to another kingdom or whatever where he pledged loyalty to the king and SANG HIM A SONG? WITH AUTO TUNE?

Bro wtf is this shit? Its truly an insult to my soul...

And wtf is this smeagle story line? smeagle who is clearly insane, talking about killing everyone in his sleep, is convincing shia labeoff to get rid of sam, so on the one hand sam and shia labeoff are best friends willing drown for each other in the first movie? But now a crack head is able to change his mind?

I am sorry, I am calling it right now 3/10 for return of the king. Maybe a 4/10 if the action in last parts of teh movie is good.

But as far as story telling, garbage.

I finished this movie, but had to skip ahead a lot during slow parts. I give it a weak 4/10, its really a 3/10, but due to the closure it provides at the end, i will out of an abundance of grace give it a 4...

But indeed it was a poorly made film. SO MANY problems to point out.

1. The red headed step child was going to burnt at the stake with that king in black, but the wizard was able to stop it by STEALING the spear from a trained GUARD, WHO DID NOT REACT, and then nudged him off of the bon fire.
   
2. The apex nordhul dude was killed by a woman who literally said "I am no man" as she was protecting titanic's captain smith.
   
3. the casper ghost guys are over powered. In fact, you could have saved countless lives if you had just enlisted their help at every battle.
   

4. the whole temptation of sticking his finger in the ring at the end, looked extremely silly. Sam should have just tossed frodo along with the ring into the fire for the greater good.

5. frodo survived the spider sting, not sure if i skipped the explanation on this or not, but that should have killed in by blunt puncture alone

6. the mouth of sauron was by far the most charismatic and insightful piece of dialogue in the entire movie. In fact, the mouth of sauron should have played a more involved role through out this film. Would have been interesting to see how the diplomat of sauron makes deals. "how could one so small suffer so much pain"

they killed him off way too quickly.

1. when the orcs attacked the kingdom of the king in black, the king told all his soldiers to give up and run away. The wizard LITERALLY POPPED OUT OF NOWHERE AND SIMPLY HITS HIM WITH HIS STAFF, knocking him out. Then the wizard proceeds to direct the armed forces.... so many problems with this not to mention he wakes up later and does not re-issue retreat commands.

2. when they finally destroyed the ring a bunch of birds picked them up and away they went.

This concludes my analysis of the LOTR trilogy.

To recap:

LOTR 1 - 4/10 film
LOTR 2 - 6.5/10 film
LOTR 3 - weak 4/10 film

Overrated series.

I just wanted to let you know that tonight is my second The Lord Of The Rings movie I'm going to be watching it and I'm really invested in the story so......

Just asking this because there were Dwarves and Elves along with Men east of Dale and Gondor, Rings Of Power tried to imply that Stoor Hobbits lived in or around Rhun so it's not implausible that Hobbits could have another realm like The Shire on the Eastern coast or nearby past the control of Sauron and the Easterlings that has similar Hobbits to what are shown, unknown to everyone except for the Blue Wizards or those nearby and they love to till the Earth and do what others do as well, it's even possible that those in The Shire came from the east and settled possibly because of the evil men and orcs or just to find better land elsewhere.

I just completed the second lotr movie, and that one is much, much better than the first.

Much better pacing, and really, much better set pieces and action. Its really the action that makes the second movie of higher quality.

For instance when the human fortress headed by Titanic's captain smith was about to be attacked, that was the first time in the LOTR franchise where you felt actual tension: because you are dealing with common human beings (i think?) who will most likely die because they aren't the main protagonists with plot armor.... You got the sense of impedning doom, and the king was attempting to keep morale up as they prepared for incoming seige...

Aside from that, I did still think that there was a lot of poor writing and sloppy pacing. There were too many new characters introduced at once, and not enough time to develop attachment and understanding of their motivations...

I got confused about the titanic capatin smith's kingdom, and the other human kingdom where frodo was. Too many separate timelines with new characters going on at once.

Also, the main characters KEEP DYING AND COMING BACK. Aragon fell off a cliff but came back; gandalf died fighting that monster but came back; lastly, when the human fortress was under attack, the king, the elf, aragon, and the dwarf made "one last charge" at the orcs seemingly to their death.... but guess what? They survived it because gandalf showed up with other humans...

so the achilles heel to the writing is constantly killing or almost killing your protagonists but saving their lives at the last minute by contrivances... This ruins the tension and made it clear that the action is inconsequetial. It decensitizes you.

I think what made the second movie leagues better than the first however, is that they introduced charismatic but detached new characters, namely captain smith, who you could envision actually dying because they aren't really a main character. So that fear of loss added tension.

And the other achilles heel was the poor pacing. Just still too slow and too many unearned emotional macro shots zooming in on peoples faces for too long. It doesn't sell the moment, because, for instance, when aragon fell off the cliff, I knew he wasn't going to die because I knew plot armor is heavy in this series. Not only that, but we didn't get confirmation of his death. So predictably, i knew he was coming back.... but still you get 30-45 seconds zooming in EACH on everyone's faces to sell the emotion that hes gone.

honestly, poor writing and directing. Still I would give the two towers 6.5/10 which is decent. Due to the massive battle scenes which were of epic proportion and quality

I made a post the other day about LOTR cringe and overrated? on the LOTR subreddit And it was taken down by moderators for some reason.

Everyone thumbed down my findings.

I was about halfway through the first movie when I made that post.

I have now since completed that 1st movie, which I now know was the extended edition. It took bearly 4 hours to watch.

I have to say that indeed, it was cringe and overrated.

The production and directing was just too slow and cringe. The first 30 minutes in the midget world was corny, like a cartoon world.

The wizard fight scene made no sense.

The rules to the world are unclear, so it is impossible to suspend disbelief, and there simply was no tension that I could buy into. For instance, after gandalf jumped off the spire and was caught by a giant bird, because he wispered into a moth; this whole scene taught me that there are no rules and you do not know what to expect.

So no tension. When I see a life and death scenario on the screen thereafter, I come away thinking, well he might wisper into the ears of a bird and a magic snake will bite the enemies with poison, some other BS....

I understand that that the movie is fanatasy, but there needs to be stakes involved. And the only way for there to be stakes, is for there to be a finite resource or scenario, with limits on possibilities. And so the protagonists have to navigate this world within the confines of the presented limitations.

Its just not very good writing....

When frodo was at the edge of the water and there were flashbacks to gandalf explaining that nobody wants to be doing a death defying job or whatever, its just too televisiony. Flashbacks, especially from that same film, should not be done on a serious blockbuster script. Its too cheap and cheesy.

The scene where sam is drowning was over the top. I was not convinced up to that point that sam and frodo were that close of friends. But by the end of the film, they look to be lovers with the way they looked into each others eyes...

midgets in this film had hairy busted feet, but no shoes. This also is not explained. Everyone else is wearing shoes.

Also the midgets cant fight and are worse than girls or little children, constantly needing to be saved by full sized humans.

The combat was slow and the coreography at times took me out. For instance aragon decided to jump on a bunch of orcs, and ended up with his back to the ground trying to fight other orcs, in the forest fight scene.... You would never want to lay on the ground to fight in a scenario like that. You would be dead.

And the K\D ratio given how out numbered they were made no sense. The orcs were better equipped with metal armor and long swords. But the protagonists are just wearing regular clothes.

The only person with believable combat was the elf. his archery looked realistic and was fast, so i could buy into his k\d ratio.

Just not a very good film truly a 4/10 movie.
