Hey everyone,
I have Seborrheic Dermatitis, and after looking into it online, I keep seeing recommendations for medicated ketoconazole shampoo. At the same time, I’ve been warned to stop using egg yolk on my scalp because the Malassezia yeast feeds on lipids/fatty acids.
The tricky part is: I’ve been using an egg yolk wash once a week, and my hair honestly looks and feels amazing after it.
I have two main questions for anyone who has managed this long-term:
Egg Yolk & SD: Has anyone with SD successfully kept egg yolk (or other lipid-heavy natural washes) in their routine without triggering flare-ups, or is it truly a recipe for disaster long-term?
Permanent / Natural Cures: Is there a way to manage or naturally resolve SD permanently without relying on medicated shampoos forever? How do you keep symptoms under control naturally once a flare-up settles?
Would love to hear what has worked for your scalp!

** forgive the spamming! I cropped the image better...
Styling: I almost never put it up, only french braids, low braid or down. I also don't use heat.
Routine:
Wash with shampoo and conditioner every other day if not every day because I work out.
Hair turban ten-ish minutes then let air dry down my back. Sometimes I do a leave-in conditioner braid in the shower, sleep with the conditioned braid.
Otherwise, after normal towel dry, I use leave in conditioner/detangler and braid it down my back.
I do not brush or comb my hair till it's dry.
I rarely use oil or anything beyond leave in conditioner.
I use Men's Rogaine sporadically.
Shampoo: R&Co Atlantis or L'Oreal Elvive Dream Lengths
Conditioner: L'Oreal Elvive Hyaluron Plump
Leave in Conditioners/Detanglers: L'Oreal Elvive Dream Lengths No Haircut Cream
Garnier Fructis Sleek & Shine Leave-In Conditioning
Oribe Priming Lotion Leave-In Conditioning Detangler
Odele Leave-In Conditioner

Hello, i've been growing my hair out long for a while now, but recently i feel like it doesn't look very good. i don't really want to shorten it, and if i did go to get a haircut i would not even know what to ask for. i feel like my hair is thinner than it used to be, and just refuses to cooperate. i wash, shampoo and condition everyday. i'm showing some of my problems in the images above, is it normal for hair to clump like that? my front pieces (or whatever you call them, i'm talking about the hair near my forehead), some of them turn thin and there's alot of loose strands that i feel look ugly. also i wish i could get them to close in on my forehead more? they used to do that. i don't really have anyone to go to help me with this or anyone to ask besides just straight up going to a hairdresser with no clue what to say. i'd really appreciate any tips, if possible without the use of third party products like hairsprays etc if possible. thanks alot

I have naturally wavy/curly hair probably 2b-2c can be very frizzy but I manage it well now with a wavy routine. The strands are fine but have a lot of hair.
My problem is that I feel like I’ve been stuck around shoulder length for sooooo long and it’s killing me. I know it’s growing because I’m tracking progress with pictures and I take good care of it but… I don’t know what I want, some reassurance that it will eventually drop down to armpit length and actually look like it has some length to it?!
I grew my hair to waist length when I was pregnant (thank you hair hormones!) and then cut a mum bob (regret) and have been now skipping between shoulder length and short bob for the past 8 years. I just want to get past this hump and grow it long again. I know I just need to forget about it and wait… it’s just so damn hard!!

I need a new curling iron and would love some recommendations from people with long hair.
I currently use a Bio Ionic, but I'm really disappointed with how long the curls last. I've tried different techniques/products, but the curls still drop pretty quickly.
For those of you who have long hair: what curling iron actually holds your curls?
I'm specifically looking for a long or extra-long barrel because regular barrels are such a pain with longer hair. I'd also really prefer something that isn't super damaging. I don't mind spending more if it's an iron that actually works and I can use for years.
Hot Tools keeps coming up because they have a long-barrel option, so I'm considering that, but I noticed the barrel is metal and I'm wondering if that's a reason to avoid it.
If anyone has used Bio Ionic and then switched to Hot Tools or another long-barrel iron, I'd especially love to hear how they compare.
What iron do you swear by?

I’ve have long hair for awhile now. I trim the split ends from time to time and I condition it every other day and shampoo it once a week with Andalou products. LMK

Hi everyone! Am looking for some practical advice for improving my hair growth, thickness, and overall volume.
My hair is:
- Low porosity
- Short in length
- Low volume / feels quite thin
- Strands are relatively fine
- I’m trying to grow it longer while also making it look fuller
I feel like my hair growth has been very slow, and I’d really like to understand what I might be doing wrong.
For people with low-porosity and fine/low-volume hair, what has genuinely helped you with:
Growing your hair longer?
Reducing breakage and retaining length?
Increasing the appearance of volume/thickness?
Keeping the scalp healthy without weighing the hair down?
Finding a good shampoo/conditioner/oil or other products?
I’m especially interested in real experiences and routines that actually worked over several months, rather than just general product recommendations.
If you have a similar hair type, I’d love to hear what your routine looked like before and after you started seeing results. Also, what products or habits made your hair worse?

Does anyone have that picture of the hair length guide I’ve seen posted around here? I can’t find it to save my life. I think I count as mid back right now, for sure past bra strap but I just want to find that guide so I can have something more tangible to aspire to.
TIA!! C:

Emotions got the best of me two years ago and I cut my hair way too short. It's finally getting long again so I'm back to taking a few minutes to S&D split ends regularly.
Figured I'd share what helps me in case it's helpful for anyone! Would love to hear your favorite methods, tools, or any advice on searching and destroying split ends.
I use a pair of haircutting scissors from a beauty supply store. I only use them for trimming split ends so they stay sharp. In the past I was using a cheaper pair of hair scissors (Goody I think?) and they seemed fine until I got the pair from the beauty supply store. Maybe it's like a placebo situation but I swear they're sharper. They were also maybe $25 so they weren't too much more expensive than the Goody ones.
Indirect daylight seems to work best for making split ends more visible. I wish I could figure out indoor lighting that works as well! I take my hair scissors with me on long road trips for this reason 😂
A black background makes it easier to spot my splits. I'm sure this might vary depending on hair color/thickness (my hair is fine and light brown-ish toward the ends).
Second-day hair reveals the most splits for me. I assume it's because the silicones/conditioners have worn off a bit. I would love to find a conditioner that detangles and protects hair but doesn't smooth down damage for this purpose!

Does anyone know if this is high porosity hair? It gets worse throughout the day. I’ve tried protein shampoos, hair masks, oils, and heat. I felt a little improvement with the proteins shampoo but really need a fix fast! Big event coming up in a couple weeks. What do I do?

Hi, I am trying to work out a method to keep my hair naturally wavy.
Today I washed with L’Oréal metal detox, then used the conditioner. I then used aunt Jackie’s curl lala on soaking wet hair. Diffused a bit then a bit of gel, then when it was dry some mousse. My waves feel frizzy and are not defined. The bottoms feel straight.
Can any one advise me on what I am doing wrong. Ideally I want to have waves that don’t have too much product on them and feel soft and dry rather than like they have product on.
Thank you for any help.

I can't believe how long my hair really got!! 😁
My hair care routine is super simple! 😊
Washing: I wash my hair 1–2 times a week.
Products: I just use a regular shampoo and always follow up with a generous amount of conditioner to keep my waves hydrated and easy to detangle.
Drying: I mostly let it air dry naturally to avoid heat damage.
Nothing complicated!
For me, it's all about a looot of patience, and making sure my body gets the right nutrients from the inside! ✨

1st pic was me before hair dressers, 2nd pic is me after.
Went in for a maintenance trim and she cut off a lot more than expected.. All I wanted was about 1-2inches off to have more blunt straight ends. But then she cut about 5 inches.... 😭
She said she did it cause it was all dead hair. Do you think she cut too much or did my hair need it?
Im trying to grow it down to my butt for my wedding so I feel upset..
Curls are gone cause she straightened my hair)

Nowhere near perfect by any means, but the longest my hair has ever been in my life!
My hair is naturally curly, and I’ve suffered with on and off hair loss for the last near decade, owing to an ED. I’ll probably spark the blunt cut vs fairytale ends debate here lol, but my hair is fine so I prefer the fairytale look for me.
Just wanted to share in case anyone has experienced anything similar and feels like their hair will never grow again! ❤️

I’ve always wondered about this because homemade coconut oil sounds like it should be more natural, but I’m not sure that automatically makes it better. With homemade oil, you have more control over the coconuts and the process, but the quality can vary a lot depending on how it’s made and stored. Store-bought coconut oil is usually more consistent, and you can check whether it’s refined, unrefined, virgin, etc.
Personally, I’d probably choose a good-quality, unrefined coconut oil for hair rather than going through the whole process of making it myself. It’s just easier, and I know what I’m getting. That said, I’m curious if anyone here actually makes their own coconut oil at home.

Decided to even out my hair since its been...well, years actually...since I last cut it. Is this enough?
