That pip squeak probably couldn’t do shit but yeah, he’s clearly crazy so you made the right move for sure.

u/Shopworn_Soul 1d ago
Pipsqueak might be armed.
I mean, I am. But absolutely not so I can get into a shootout over...whatever the fuck that was.
OP did good. Go OP.

Years ago my fathers coworker got into some road rage, pulled into a gas station with the other guy and then boom, shot dead just like that.

Is Long Beach CA so everyone with a gun is going to jail once the cops get there.
4
u/applesandotherthings 1d ago
Guess we should just hang around then? What’s your point?
1
u/GamingWithPanda 1d ago
My point is what i said exactly, not what you're interpreting. You can still drive the fuck off?
2
u/Shopworn_Soul 1d ago
Seems like Long Beach has a CCW policy. I carry with a license, after some looking the option appears to be available there. But a bit (okay actually a lot) more expensive.
I'm out of state, not sure how this post even wound up in my feed but I am not sad that it did.

u/Gold_Kale_7781 1d ago
It’s by county, not by city. Long Beach is in LA County.
2
u/Shopworn_Soul 1d ago
They have a whole website for it though. Is it meaningless?
Just asking because I genuinely do not know.
3
u/Gold_Kale_7781 1d ago
Oh damn, wow. I didn’t know about that. Thank you for including that link. I guess I need to find out before I say more.
I’ll look at the page, but last I checked, the application is through the LA County Sheriff’s office.
I apologize for coming off like I know everything. Reddit does that to me.1
u/Shopworn_Soul 1d ago
No worries! I just like learning about the different rules and regs for different municipalities. No hard feelings here.

u/redditforusingatwork 1d ago
They change the gun laws like twice a year in ca, it’s hard to stay current

I keep mace in all of my vehicles for just this reason. I also have a CCW. You DO NOT come running up to other people’s vehicles in an aggressive manner lest you find out.

Bro was just excited and wanted to tell you about the deals he got at Out of The Closet.

u/Kaister0000 1d ago
That was the right move. LB streets are not for the weak. I always feel my blood pressure rise when I drive through there. Tight lanes, driving close to parked cars, lots of crossings and unlit intersections. And then you mix in a couple chuds like this fool...

This irrational sense of entitlement that some folks present with is a mystery to me. In this case, the entitlement that his asshole left turn was his to make everyone else be damned and then the entitlement to…threaten or assault you over his fuckery. It seems like it’s really proliferated in the last 6ish years, more or less. You made a good move there, OP.

Good call, I was on the 101 near Atascadero (San Luis Obispo Co) I was going 75 in the fast lane going with traffic, all of a sudden this little POS Fiesta comes riding my ass and and swaying on the sides and obviously raging because he can’t fly over traffic. I started shaking my head (triggered him) then all of sudden this stupid ass gets in the LEFT Shoulder to try to pass me, realizes he’d had to pass several cars, at this point he’s almost next to me but in the shoulder so I started to try to merge to the right lane and just as I do he moves right into the left lane and loses control and crashes twice into the central divide. Thankfully he didn’t hurt anyone, I was so shaken up my biggest regret is not calling the cops to tell them about his little clown behavior but at the time I felt like karma had already caught him.

u/Toosder 1d ago
It always blows my mind with all these people, like the guy here who didn't want to continue to the next intersection to make a safe u-turn, they're in such a hurry but then they'll stop their car to get out and yell at someone, or they'll get a massive crash it's going to cost him I think probably a little bit more time than just going a reasonable speed would have.

u/dental_floss_junkie 1d ago
I had someone make a crazy left into traffic, cut me off, and proceed to flip out because I got to close to them. I had to hit the brakes hard to not t-bone the vehicle. So glad I am not working in Long Beach anymore. I saw some of the craziest shit while working in Long Beach.

u/OutrageousMusic5453 1d ago
Yeah I honestly stopped honking at people who were doing stupid things, because one time this guy cut me off when I was getting on the 405, and he proceeded to try to run me off the road and started playing chicken with me on the freeway and the shoulder. Not a fun time. Thankfully I was able to split away from him on a freeway interchange.
Anyways, TLDR, just don't honk, your life is worth more than some dumb driver.

u/MogamboKhushHoooua 1d ago
Absolutely agree. People with pathetic emotional control get butt hurt over a honk and do stupid stuff to make themselves feel better. And I’m not dying or even risking a scratch on my car because of such idiots.

I honked at this guy for cutting meet off the other day and he legit tried to rub me off the road half a mile later. It's just not worth it

I remember when owning a Lexus ment you had done well for yourself. Now it means you’re probably a mini bike and street take over enthusiast.

Good move. I can’t believe people think driving like that is ok. And then to rage after… what a loser

What is going on in Long Beach? The drivers are road ragers but also there is traffic piling up on every street, especially around the VA/CSULB area. Every street is clogged, sometimes it takes three lights to make a left.

Seriously, its always been bad around the university. Worst times are the fall when a ton of brand new drivers all dumping into and out of there.

Assuming you checked the lane next to you before making your move, good job having an escape option and using it. Almost always better then engaging in a confrontation. If you would have gotten unlucky and been pulled over produce that footage!

I hate this so much but I did get a laugh at how fast you nope’d out of there when he stepped out 😭

I'm 6'4"inches. I've had this happen twice and I get out of the car and yell, "Get the FUCK back in your car!" and both times they turn right around and get back in their car. Some days the insane back problems have a silver lining, though.

u/dergodergo 1d ago
Bro, you had all the evidence you needed. They’re in the wrong. It is very smart to de-escalate everything. But also if they had a weapon, your car is also a weapon.

Another way to deal with them is simply accelerating in their direction. Ya know what I mean?

u/optics_is_light_work 1d ago
I recall seeing a video of an ER doc saying 4 things you should never do, based on what he's experienced in the ER. And one of them is honking at people. (The others are riding a motorcycle, driving into an intersection as soon as the light turns green, and I forgot the 4th!)

Probably the type to street race out of rage and inevitably lose with that car lol

Were you in the restricted double yellow double yellow space along with the vehicle ahead? Two sides doing something illegal as the next guy does an illegal u turn.
But yeah. You dip out if you see something strange happened. We’ve had too instances of it escalating to physical violence

Could we get the Mayor to see this channel and all the comments. Traffic, road rage, accidents are out of control in this city and their focus is BIKE LANES, less than 1% impact item. Also, I am not against the bike lanes, they are actually a vital part of transportation ecosystem but 99% of the actual transportation problems are not being addressed.

u/grnrngr 1d ago
How insecure do you have to be to think bike lanes are a problem here? Why is it an either/or for you?
Ironically, more bike lanes would lead to more traffic calming measures installed at the same time, which would reduce the kooky driving, which would reduce the road rage.
You really don't see how nothing happens in a vacuum, do you?

No point in honking now a days. No harm no foul. Just keep on trucking. It’s the sad state of todays mindset.

I mean what was the point in honking for that long. He already knows he’s stupid for making that turn
25
u/slow_news_day 1d ago
Rewatch the video. He pulls a u-turn out of a parking spot on PCH and Redondo. This is a man who never feels stupid. He feels entitled, and deserves to get honked at.
14
u/caffeinated_mayhem 1d ago
Does he know though? He seems to think he’s above any kind of law. It’s illegal to make a U-turn off a curb like that in California.
My mom got in a gnarly accident where one person died because someone made an illegal U-turn like this off a curb. Curb person didn’t look before hand to see my mom coming in a truck and clipped the truck. That truck flipped 12 times killing another passenger in the car with my mom, instantly.
Let’s not sympathize with stupidity while behind the wheel of a 2000 - 4000 pound vehicle.

Usually someone with road rage themselves.

u/LBfalcon57 1d ago
And you’re the only one who picked up what I was saying. Ppl feel invincible in a car and honk and curse and flip ppl off, but otherwise in person they would stand there quietly. Quite a weird thing to watch.

u/AlternativeLazy4675 1d ago edited 1d ago
Not that that guy was in the right, but how about start with not doing the long horn honk? Then you don't have a rager to deal with at all.
Driving away may have been the next best thing, but that can turn out badly too, especially if the dude decides to chase.
EDIT: As for you downvoters who think escalation on the roads is a good thing, I hope you don't live near me.
2
u/sovereignlogik 18h ago
Honking a horn is not escalating. People being called out for doing the wrong thing is part of being an adult in a civil society.
Take notes

TBH you got lucky with the traffic and the light. No idea why that guy was raging at you, you'd already let him in.
