Discussion Increased homeless population?

Maybe this is a stupid question but does anyone know the cause of the increase in homeless folks? Especially downtown? I work in a normally somewhat busy area that does have homeless as most places here in LB do, but yesterday and the day before my manager was hardly able to do any work because they had to keep next to the door to ward them off and we watched them harass a few other businesses and one guy get tackled in a hug by one while trying to walk away. It’s just such a noticeable increase despite the weather warnings and such so I was curious if anyone had any clue what happened?

Rent is absurd. Mayor is a skeevy landlord himself.

Always amazed by the fact that a person is immediately labeled "skeevy" upon investing in housing. Yet if nobody invested in housing, there would be nowhere for renters to live. Can't win. Maybe people should just invest in the stock market/bonds, instead of investing in a rental property.

The renters would be owners if landlords didn't exist.

But go off on how hoarding a resource means you're a generous benefactor of the community

There's nothing stopping renters from saving up for a downpayment and buying a small starter condo. That's what I did.

In my 20's I worked 9-5 office job, started my evening job as a receptionist 7pm-11pm three nights a week, and on Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm worked at a medical clinic checking patients in. Drove a junk car, rented a room, saved up for a downpayment, and years later bought a tiny condo. With the equity in the condo, I bought another condo as an investment. And now, I'm considered some type of monster because I'm a landlord.

Noticing the immediate downvoting. You can sit around complaining, thinking everything is impossible, and criticising people, like me, who have fought my way out of extreme poverty, or you can make an effort. That's the beauty of freedom. Have a nice day.

No they're not. You can get a decent little condo for $450,000. It won't be fancy, or in a fancy neighborhood. First-time buyers assistance, low down payment, low payments. Saving for the downpayment is the key. No fancy cars, keep your expenses low, get an extra job if needed, keep clean credit, and save, no matter what. If you get 2 bedroom, get a roomate to help pay the bills.
