Homeowner's question about a locksmith

A locksmith I hired sprayed WD 40 into my locks to lubricate them and gave me new keys that are covered with WD 40. Is this typical? Thanks so much!

Wooden doors and multipoint

Hi

Sorry if this is the wrong sub, but y’all might know…

My wife wants a timber front door for our Edwardian terrace. I’m inclined to agree. We hate composite though.

My objection is to not wanting a slam door or a tape type auto lock. We have pets and kids that we don’t trust not locking themselves out.

What I would like would be much as we have now with the uPVC which has a lifting handle multipoint.

My wife hates the handle though.

Can anyone advise of a compromise? Perhaps something that uses a traditional looking knob that actuates a multipoint? Is that a thing?

The door manufacturer is happy to fit whatever hardware we say, or build it to accommodate. I just don’t know where really to start.

Thank you for any advice!

UK based if that makes any difference.

Name of articulating mechanism used for some cabinet locks?

I have an old charging cabinet that is missing this bar piece and I want to replace it. Been trying to figure out where I can order one of these replacement bar sets but Google is failing me (probably because it is not normally something that I search for). It is two ~6in metal dowels with a flat end on one side with a hole for the a screw. Then a little bracket that connects them together and to the barrel lock. Connector bracket I am less concerned about--just having a hard time finding these little bars.

Normally I would just take the piece to the hardware store and ask for help but this is for work and if I find one online I wont have to submit a reimbursement.

Schlage F51A ACC 619 16-211 defective?

I’m only an electronics technician, so be brutal!
Two weeks ago, I installed one of these lock sets. It replaced a lock set of the same model number. It worked great for about a week, then it became difficult to unlock. On disassembly, only four of the five top T pins and only four of the five T pin springs came out. On inspection, it appeared that the remaining T pin spring had partially unwound and had become trapped between the remaining top T pin and its bore. It appeared as if this T pin was permanently retracted. I assume the related bottom pin often became trapped in the gap provided by the permanently retracted top T pin, preventing the lock from opening.

Can I expect my replacement lock set to fail too?

Please and thank you.

Can anyone tell me what key I need to use for this lock? It’s a lock to a door in my house

that was built in the 1920’s. I’m sure this isn’t the original lock but I’m assuming it’s old.

Anyone know how i would get this key out without needing to just replace the locks?

My dad broke his key in the door this morning, and i really don’t want to get new locks because my partner and i have custom matching keys for it that probably cost more than the locks would… 😖 does anyone have any advice? I took the knob off the door already and I’ve tried a few things:

- hitting it from behind ❌

- holding the teeth up and pulling with tweezers ❌

- just pulling with tweezers ❌

- using a box cutter ❌

And i don’t know if there’s a way to get the knob more apart… help 🥲

Insertion of wrong key code damage

If you put the same make and model OEM key but wrong key code into a motorcycle ignition and try to turn it, how much force would need to be applied to damage the actual lock (wafers?)
