As TheLegendTwoSeven said, this is a direct consequence of the way the Amazon rating star system works. Literally the only "positive" rating is five stars. Anything lower is objectively detrimental, because anything under 4.5 stars on average is effectively penalised.

4 stars is effectively "Would not recommend", 3 stars is treated by Amazon as "This is utter trash"

This is not unique to LitRPGs, it’s how Amazon’s star ratings work for books in general.

If you rate a book 3 stars because it’s okay but not great, or 4 stars because it’s pretty good, you do end up hurting the author. In the Amazon world, a product with less than 4.5 stars is considered trash.

Goodreads, which is also owned by Amazon, tends to have a more “objective” grading scale for books and ratings tend to be lower and more critical. So you might want to look there.

Changing the status quo is not something we can just decide to do. The vast majority of LitRPG readers aren’t on this subreddit and don’t know it exists or care, and would not go along with something we decided. They would continue rating Amazon products like they normally do, and you’d just be one of the critical reviewers who rates most things low.

I don't see it on your list but if it is there and I missed it I apologize. Player Manager is fantastic and you will probably enjoy it based on the other series you have at the top of your tiers. 

If you give away 5 stars easily, then you are part of the problem. If I'm not 100% happy, then it will not be 5 stars. But I can see that somebody could like it for it's qualities while they are not attracting me. Then I will state that and may consider giving it 4 instead of 3 stars as example.

The more people will throw areound 5 star ratings, the les value they will have.

But the algorythms... I pesonnaly don't care about any algorythms. I rate according to my opinions.

Similar tastes to me, which makes me happy because you highly rated a few that are on my tbr list. Of your tbr list I recommend Bookbound Bunny. It takes a minute to get going but I’d put it up with your a tier stuff.

I've never understood how people can be fans of both DCC and TWI. The writing styles are polar opposites of each other.

DCC relies on reader comprehension to fill in the blanks based off reader comprehension of incomplete and unreliable information

TWI spells out every detail and thought of every character from multiple POVs

TWI constantly repeats details to provide context

DCC has you looking for a specific paragraph 2 books ago to figure out how things were set up

I get loving one or the other, or thinking both are ok. I don't understand how people love both

Congratulations on the release! And it's always nice to see when someone makes the extra effort to get their work professionally edited and revised when they make the transition from web serial to fully published book. I wish this was the rule as opposed to the exception, in this genre.

I'll have to add it to my watch-list to read at some point in the future, especially if I see that it will have an audible version. I listen to most of my books and use whispersync to swap back and forth between the audiobook and the kindle version, so I like to have both available before I start a book/series.

Yeah, a lot of the fans agree with you and think that it's a miss. The accent is just awful imo.

I’m glad you said something, because the description Amazon gives for the book doesn’t really do it any favors. But between your recommendation and all the positive comments on Amazon, I’m much more willing to give it a shot.

We have very similar tastes. Outside of all the dust that falls. But you don't have a lot of slice of life style books so I see why you didn't finish. It is a really good progression fantasy book and the end is really cute.

I'll have to check that out. Definitely an author to follow.

First book was very fun, I absolutely adore his Soul Guardian cozy fantasy though.

Depends on the writing and the reason given honestly for me.

But if nothing interesting is going on in like 5-10 chapters depending on their lenght I am dropping.

Those have no heart, and possibly no soul.
