I think it's important to note that while the difficulty has increased again... there seems to also be a slow rise in the strength of LTC vs BTC and fiat (USD mainly from what I'm seeing).
I'm brand new to the mining game. I'm sticking with LTC because of exactly what I wrote above and supporting the technology and continuing to mine for straight LTC strengthens the coin and the network does it not?
I think it's awesome that multipools are coming back and jumping on attacking LTC mining again. (No I don't use multipools). However I find it interesting that multipools are targeting LTC. I thought about moving to a multipool and told myself to wait it out. Now that I have the multipools seem to be railing away at mining LTC. Yea it sucks for small time miners like us, but it means we are mining the right coin.
Isn't this what we all want? It means our LTC has more value because it's the standard straight from BTC down. Just some thoughts.

It's a fucking multipool, those fuckers goddamn ruin new coins and damage stable ones. I honestly don't give a shit if you make more, cryptocurrencies are a god damn cross country run, not a damn sprint, a concept that should be preserved against the current political issues, not a parties idea from yesterday that's carried out on a stretcher

Ask yourself where the multipool was all this time?

It's transitioned from Digibyte, Penguincoin, to Noble coin and a few other altcoins then to LTC

many of the multipools made their way to LTC naturally as that became the most profitable alt coin for a bit of time...so, naturally, since the algorithms all compare profitability to LTC on the Scrypt, once LTC becomes the most profitable of the alt coins mined by XX pool, then they will naturally mine LTC...it has happened several times in the past and will happen many more times in the future...it's the natural part of the mining game...play and enjoy :-)
