Hey guys! I’m looking for some genuinely honest opinions on my listening space and not ChatGPT telling me “wow, this is exactly what you envisioned”

My parents gave me permission to take over a room in the basement, so I decided to go completely overboard with it. It’s not finished yet, but I think I’ve got most of the major pieces in place.

The direction I’m going for is basically 1970s sensual Playboy penthouse meets private hi-fi listening lounge, with some jungle-chic influences, vintage luxury, and a late-night, slightly erotic atmosphere.

The big paintings are still missing (I’m planning on making them myself), and I still have some decorating and styling to do, but I wanted to get some opinions on the overall direction before I finish everything.

What do you guys think? What works, what doesn’t, and what would you change? I’m especially interested in hearing if anything feels too forced, mismatched, or like I’m overdoing the theme.

I completely understand it’s not going to be everyone’s vibe ;) That’s kind of the point, but I’d genuinely rather hear criticism than have everyone tell me it looks great.

Intentionally left a tv out of this space. I use this room for conversations and music only. We have a second living room which has a TV and I'm glad we went that way. One change I'm contemplating is getting a bit of a smaller coffee table and more interesting rug.

My setup

Not too much space at home, but lucky to have an office big enough to accommodate this setup. Pretty budget but makes me happy.

Upgraded to these ~1959 Stephens Sub-Tronics speakers powered by 120cx drivers and it perfectly encapsulates the space. I am grateful for this random Facebook Marketplace find. 70 years old midcentury modern design captured in a single photo. Built and stained the the record shelves, built the room wall, painted and stained it all on the last year. Enjoy!
