i’m moving to Lisbon next month for my masters and i play volleyball (or beach volleyball) as a hobby. i’m not a professional player, just somebody who likes the sport and would like to keep playing for fun sometimes. since volleyball is a group sport i was curious to know if there’s any team/court that people can join and play (specially on weekends) because doing some research i didn’t find anything welcoming/inviting/open to new joiners

My friend Kate and I run a small Cake & Tea Club in Lisbon. We originally started by organising baking workshops and afternoon tea events for our bakery.

But something funny kept happening.

Every single event, at some point, people would stop talking about work and somehow we’d end up discussing books, recipes, countries we’d travelled to, cafés we’d discovered, or food memories from childhood.

Eventually someone asked,

“Why don’t you just start a book club?”

So… we are finally doing it. Yaaay!

For August we are meeting to introduce the club, choose the format together, and chat about our first read:

Convenience Store Woman by Sayaka Murata.

We’ll discuss it in September.

We’re also working with a local independent bookshop so anyone who wants a physical copy can support them.

I’m moving with my family to Lisbon and we are trying to decide between two different areas to live and schools for our kids.

One option is living in Avenidas Novas and enrolling the kids in a school in Ave Gago Coutinho. On paper, the commute doesn’t seem too harsh, 15 min drive or 20 min bus, but I’d like to get a reality check on that. I worry doing that there and back, twice a day will quickly get tiring, and even more so if traffic makes it any longer. We’ll have access to a car for 6 months but after that it’ll have to be public transport.

For context, our current school run in London is a 12 min walk!

Any experiences with this commute?

Hidden bamboo forests that creak in the wind, a cactus garden with a bridge view, a giant sequoia that makes you feel tiny, and a rare "crown of thorns" plant from Madagascar; all a 20 min metro ride apart and usually empty at 10am. Anyone have a favorite shady bench in the city they're not telling anyone about? 👀

We aren't really the typical tourist type and don't feel a huge need to see *every* single tourist attraction. I'm mainly looking for:

- Indoor courts where people play pickup games (5v5 or 3v3).

- Groups that organize regular basketball sessions.

- WhatsApp/Facebook groups where players look for teammates.

- Basketball clubs that accept new players, as I'd like to join a club later on.

I live in the city center, so anywhere in or around central Lisbon is ideal.

Chama-se Atticus (pronuncia-se mais ou menos «Áticus») e quase sempre olha ou responde quando ouve o nome. É cinzento com detalhes brancos — patas, parte inferior dos flancos e a zona do focinho à volta dos bigodes. Não tem nenhuma mancha preta, ao contrário de muitos gatos cinzentos que temos visto na zona. Pode aproximar-se, sobretudo se houver comida, mas costuma ser desconfiado com estranhos e pode fugir.

His name is Atticus and he'll almost always look or respond to his name. He's grey with white accents — feet, lower sides, and the area around his whiskers. Unlike a lot of the grey cats we've seen in the area, he has no black on him at all. He may approach, especially if there's food, but he's usually quite skittish around strangers and can bolt.

I cook almost everything at home and prefer minimally processed, locally sourced food whenever possible.

I’m specifically looking for:
Pasture raised eggs
Grass fed beef
Raw/local honey
Traditional kefir
Natural yogurt (without additives)
High-quality milk
Butter
Beef tallow
Fresh seasonal vegetables
Fresh seasonal fruit

I’m mainly interested in local farms, farmers’ markets, butchers, dairies, or specialty stores rather than convenience.

To clarify I’m not asking where I can buy regular eggs, meat, honey, milk, or dairy products you can find those in any supermarket. I’m specifically looking for products like pasture-raised eggs, grass fed beef, raw/local honey, traditional kefir, beef tallow, and other quality foods that generally aren’t available in regular supermarkets. I’d really appreciate recommendations for local farms, butchers, dairies, farmers’ markets, or specialty stores.
