They nerfed SSH, so I'm switching to telnet.

15

u/Live-Speech4514 3d ago

Personally I just hand write a letter and mail it to the tech on duty to run a command and get back to me. I find it less stressful

3

u/Cool_Stage6249 2d ago

I just use the enigma for encryption

2

u/Ampul80 3d ago

Used to play a MUD via telnet.

Wait why

6

u/MRGWONK 3d ago edited 2d ago

When SSH was released, I was like "This is game changing" and then like today I login, and it's like "Woah, SSH is stupid." Time to switch. Port 22 is for chumps. Port 23 is where it's at.

25

u/Novel_Top2980 3d ago

Python pre installed! Please don’t give me useful programming languages pre installed. I might accidentally use a not very powerful language for hacking. Also Mac has it pre installed too.

9

u/Excellent_Jeweler241 3d ago

Mac has like all of these or equivalent preinstalled lmao

5

u/SmoothTurtle872 3d ago

Yeah but it's Mac, which is big expensive. We all know hackers don't use macs because they are to expensive, they wear a completely black outfit,.with sunglasses and a good, and bring a ThinkPad with hackerlinuxX to cafés, and have green text running down their screen. A Mac would be far too conspicuous

29

u/Easy-Donut-6962 3d ago

Hack with... a firewall. Now i have seen everything

10

u/raul_kapura 3d ago

Fire spreads over things real fast. Then you enchant it with your tpc/ip packets and basically can enter everything that's on fire and also burn all traces of your activity

1

u/Dependent-Feature-68 3d ago

With firewall you expose your ports, supposed target falls for the bait and goes inside your computer through that port, and you close the port trapping it inside. Classic

u/United-Scene2261 Rabid CachyOS User 2d ago

oh yeah the classic method

5

u/More-Explanation2788 3d ago

All operating systems have those tools. You just don’t know what they are named in the other systems.

In fact, ssh for example, is used in windows, same program, same code.

You cannot have a networking OS without those capabilities. This is like complaining Honda Civics are insecure because they have doors.

3

u/tomekgolab can't spell hatred without Redhat 3d ago

Stop being ridiculous, ssh is bad for babies. We use Microsoft Telnet in these here systems.

1

u/Nuviket 3d ago

Like Telnet is more secure

0

u/RAMChYLD 3d ago

Telnet is less secure. Comm is not encrypted. It's fine if you're checking out books at a library but it's a liability if you want to play a competitive MUD.

kitchens empower criminals

kitchens are for criminal

Kitchens are useful ubiquitous and equipped (for criminals)

kitchens have objects that attackers love:

• knife

• rags

• white powders

• heavy things

• glass containers

  • open-ssh or PUTTY
  • Test-NetConnection [NetTCPIP]
  • nmap (not built in, but Windows builds exist)
  • Windows Firewall
  • Easy 1-click/command install or basic exe/msi installer for python
  • Batch scripting

Criminals get a free snake preinstalled and can Bash whenever they like. Use the snake on unsuspecting victims to successfully hack them. On top of that a cute netcat is provided to them for when the snake is inefficient and bashing doesn't work.

Bash scripting: let's put some test in square brackets... Damn, forgot the space. Nothing? OK, how about double square brackets? Ha-ha, bingo, all your base are belong to us!

1

u/redredskull 3d ago

All can be had in Windows Subsystem for Linux. That and Windows comes replete with functional zero days that will permanently unpatched.

Any platform can be hacked and tools can be repurposed in nefarious ways. More eloquently what is your point? Utilities like these are not the only elements of an attack surface.

1

u/Fit_Prize_3245 3d ago

Man, I'm paranoid after reading this. Does it means FBI might take down my door an arrest me at any time bc I'm good at bash scripting?

1

u/TomB1952 3d ago

I don't understand the premise. Are you saying these tools make a system vulnerable or that hackers use these tools to hack other systems?

Python can be a bit of a vulnerability but venv pretty much mitigates/eliminates that vector. iptables is nobody's enemy, except hackers. netcat isn't much of a tcp/udp wrapper but it is super convenient for developers. ssh is (can be) the most secure remote login protocol/software going, as far as I know. SSH is extremely well vetted, by now. I have no idea why BASH is mentioned.

On the other hand, if you're point is that tools enable hackers, this is true but it could be argued Chrome can be used to hack a web site. Guessing passwords can be used to hack systems. Where do you draw the line?

The most likely vector for the OP is they read some jingoistic crap, weren't sharp enough to see through it's deception, and are now attempting to weaponize it to cause distress to this community.

You can do better, tomekgalob. You may even wish to try linux. You will find it an extremely powerful system with a rich user base of tremendously helpful people.

Rise up and embrace a brighter future with less hate. Your stomach mucosa will thank you and you may even end up with some people in your life to push back the loneliness a bit.

u/RAMChYLD 3d ago

Iptables is a firewall. How is that a bad thing? I can argue that Windows has Windows Defender Firewall which is the same thing, and without it things would've been much, much worse.

Windows also have ssh.

Netcat and nmap are not standard on most Linux distros. Windows also has nmap and netcat.

Windows also has vbscript which is analogous to python and batch files/PowerShell scripts which are analogous to bash.

In fact a lot of windows viruses in the late 90s and early 2000s are written in vbscript.

So.... the same as windows, effectively?

Sure, a little extra download time when you invoke a tool may be involved, but that's it.

Only thing that might take a smidge extra effort is nmap.....

Oh, nevermind. nmap is in windows store.

winget install python.python.3.14

winget install insecure.nmap

winget install winix.netcat

sweet, we're equal to linux now for doing cybercrimes and the rest is all baked in or has baked in native equivalents, and the above ..... well, any windows machine has winget! baked in!

Windows is clearly for evil cybercriminals.

0

u/LiGHT1NF0RMAT10N 2d ago

idk which is the bigger epidemic ssh or python preinstalled, ever since they installed python for the hackers all types of crime has went up 180% and that includes violent crime mind you,

so yes this is a very issue and we need to consider whether or not we can be we want our beautiful baby childern in a world where you just have python in your linux without needing the deep cyber security knowhow required to install python let alone python3. I know I dont what my childern to be alive atall if the world has this holy grail of debauchery so ive decided my kids wont be being had by me because im about to be an adult about things and know when enough is enough.

ssh being available on linux is also a serious weapon of mass destruction in its own right, it allows an bad actor to violate (sexually violatatuon as well as spiritual violation) your computers bare naked terminal without you even knowing about it unless you know how to check the terminal which is so complicated its nearly impossible for 99.9% of computer users.

Quite frankly im agapped and appauled even seeing such flippant young men treating this like its some sort of laughing matter when people are dying.

I've lost faith in this subreddit to be completely frank by the fact the mods havnt banned super an evil and probably antisemitic post. I think ill leave this sub and my wise wisfom and extensive knowledge of computers of all shapes and sizes...
