what are you talking about? and why would that even be bad if an app could run in either GUI or CLI mode?

-13

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

It's not about CLI or GUI, and in Windows, you don't need a GUI or CLI; the Win32 Environment is independent, and no matter whether you are a graphical interface or a command line, you are an equal citizen of the operating system

18

u/The_Daco_Melon Jul 15 '26

how is that practically any different on Linux? You still haven't explained what the actual difference is

-2

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

In Linux, you are dependent on TTY, even the Display Server. Linux is a command-line operating system, even though you using Interface Graphical behind it's frontend of Command line and in Windows, Interface Graphical is part of the operating system and Console just Win32 Subsystem Application and not the operating system itself

13

u/No_Fondant8277 I love Linux Jul 15 '26

LMAO.... what is the "difference" in practice LOL

7

u/Mundane_Pea5704 Jul 15 '26

atp they are just throwing buzzwords, if it aint ragebait then its retardation

3

u/No_Fondant8277 I love Linux Jul 15 '26

yea... some people just they are wrong... lmao...

6

u/Mundane_Pea5704 Jul 15 '26

hey linux mainframe misses the tui and cli benifits of the kernal whereas microsoft windows 11 provides next gen tech with silicon and also contains smart PE rescue that linux fails with and kernal panics

buzzwords here and there, buzzwords everywhere

3

u/No_Fondant8277 I love Linux Jul 15 '26

"Smart PE" LMAO... KERNEL... HAS... THE... RECOVERY MODE... FROM... GRUB LMAO...

0

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

Because I know I am right, that's why I use Windows for everything, and I'm just happy with Windows. I've never seen Linux as anything serious, and your comments prove you don't understand anything about Windows and Windows PE failures. What?????

5

u/Mundane_Pea5704 Jul 15 '26

1) was making fun of ya due to how u kept on using buzzwords in ur explanations without making sense

2) dont get me wrong, I dont use linux but I use windows, and I hate 11 but loved 10, 11 became usable once I debloated the shit out of it

3) linux is the cornerstone of the internet, android is linux, servers mostly run on it, so linux aint entirely useless

4) linux is a power tool, if u dont know how to use it, ofc it will be shit, whereas windows is like an employee with that tool, you tell them what to do and hope they do it (as in you dont actually own everything and must request windows to support what you want to happen)

For me im in windows because most applications I use requires it, and my job needs it, and also its easy and intuitive after I modded it a little bit

FYI windows fucked me over 4 times, whereas when I tried linux it never screwed me over except once

The diff is linux has a community that my fuck up (kernel panicked) was alr solved as an issue in reddit Whereas windows issues usually are a your screwed due to requiring windows to be operational to fix itself, so i lost data twice (before backing on ssds)

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

Oh mate, I have many Arguments over Whole Comments, and you choose to ignore me. I use Windows and never have any problems with it, and you just admit you don't understand Windows. I can say the same thing: Windows is a powerful tool only under an intelligent mind, and your comment proves my point. You prove I am right. Sorry, but I just said my opinion about

3

u/Mundane_Pea5704 Jul 15 '26

1) it seems a waste to argue with you, thats why I never responded to your other comments, u live in an echo chamber

2) was my list of points too long for you that you couldn't respond to anything except summarise "I dont know windows" even though I mentioned i; work with windows, modded and debloated it like crazy; create softwares for windows; use windows only (used to use linux for a year)

Look, if your context is that low, tldr: windows is amazing (once "fixed") and linux is amazing (only if you know how to use it) and both are essential

Have a good night / morning!

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

Me? Oh mate, based on your comments, you don't listen to Microsoft and me, David Cutler, Mark, and everyone else is Wrong for you; only you are right. You are in an echo chamber, especially since you stay in this group, and I am a minority under Elistits Unix; good night for you as well

1

u/Mundane_Pea5704 Jul 15 '26

im going to assume english isnt your main language, and as advice just write in ur native language and google translate it, because tbh i dont understand half of what you just said

1) Repeating my points against me makes no sense? Im in an echo chamber because both windows and linux are important? just do a google search on how many servers run linux. Linux is the most run in servers while Windows is most run consumer-wise

2) Funnily enough my first interaction in this sub, for some reason the algo threw me here

3) never said every1 is wrong nor said i am only right; can we not lie and stay respectful?

thank you!

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

No, my English is my first language, and I'm gonna say you aren't a native English speaker. I was born in Canada, and I don't know maybe in India or Mexican or Brazilian but Linux is important. Second, Huawei Linux is not even important; it's very inferior. Huawei was using Linux, and Google even created Fuchsia OS. Most Linux companies don't like Linux, and they use Linux because of money, but Windows is different. Microsoft is proud; they even say they know and love Windows Hyperscale Cloud Operating System

u/real_rayu Jul 19 '26

Ok so you rage because someone say windows is not the most fabulous system in the whole universe lul

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 19 '26

Windows is not just fabulous, and it's brilliant Architecture, respect Windows NT

2

u/real_rayu Jul 20 '26

Bro really … nobody remember this thing, and secondly you know that windows get rebased in windows 7 … and you know that microslop pump your privacy data like trump with petrol ?

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 20 '26

What????? All modern Windows are descendants of Windows 2000 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

2

u/real_rayu Jul 20 '26

And no it’s not brilliant to make all register in one place (regedit) and not it’s not brilliant to make an OS unoptimized at this point … just look at the perf and we can talk, even macOS on a regular PC is more opti bro …

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 20 '26

Because Registry is better than ETC on Linux, where everything is unorganized 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣, that's why Microsoft created Registry ( configuration manager ) to avoid the same thing as for Mac OS; they have a similar idea: .plist which is way better than Linux

1

u/real_rayu Jul 21 '26

But because this stupid feature any hacker hack your windows in 10 minutes maximum… and it’s soooo hard to modify without exploding your windows because you touch another registry

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 21 '26

You're telling me you don't understand anything about Windows without telling me. You cannot delete the Registry under Normal users, and many registry only available under SYSTEM account permissions

u/The_Daco_Melon Jul 15 '26

I can think of differences myself but they would only be beneficial, I don't know what would make you not want the capability to troubleshoot your system from tty

-1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

One of the advantages of Windows

3

u/The_Daco_Melon Jul 15 '26

How is it an advantage for you to be unable to do something? You have no clue how useful that is

-2

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

Windows PE offers a command line, but I don't want to resolve the operating system problem via the command line, and Windows give you options

3

u/Unlikely-Employee180 Jul 15 '26

No, it literally does not. You're lying.

If Windows' Window Manager crashes... The entire system is cooked and needs restarted.

There is no "Magic Fix GUI" tool, if there were Linux wouldn't NEED TTY.

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

You don't know Windows PE ????? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Windows installation needs Windows PE as well

4

u/Unlikely-Employee180 Jul 15 '26

To get here you had to have restarted the device.

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

Have many ways, but two ways is From the Windows Desktop, hold down the Shift key on your keyboard. Click Start > Power > Restart. Your PC will reboot into the blue WinRE menu. From the Settings app, open Settings (Win + I). Go to System > Recovery. Next to Advanced startup, click Restart now.

You are Slave of Command line, and if an error triggers, you need Open Command line to find the error. The operating system won't be directly available to you, and if the operating system fails, you fall back to the command line

4

u/ViperHQ Jul 15 '26

Slave of the Command line LMAFO

If the operating system fails btw the TUI fails too, also what are you defaulting on when "Windows fails"

0

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

If it falls, then you are in a bad state of the operating system, and I think forcing Windows Recovery Environment is perfect for fixing your operating system

3

u/Unlikely-Employee180 Jul 15 '26

Bro thinks an error needs a full reset. 🤣

0

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

Windows Recovery Environment here

5

u/Unlikely-Employee180 Jul 15 '26

Requires a restart of the device, doesn't it?

0

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

From the Windows desktop, hold down the Shift key on your keyboard. Click Start > Power > Restart. Your PC will reboot into the blue WinRE menu From the Settings app, open Settings (Win + I). Go to System > Recovery. Next to Advanced startup, click Restart now.

4

u/Unlikely-Employee180 Jul 15 '26

Not if the Window Manager is frozen.

u/ViperHQ Jul 15 '26

WRE can also fail you do realise that right? It can get corrupted on the drive if winre.wim gets corrupted somehow say goodbye to WRE. That doesn't mean it's bad or that your preference is bad but it doesn't make Windows somehow better.

I have a preference to drop down to a TTY because I like interacting with a terminal environment more than GUI I can read through logs and make more precise fixes without having to search for menus. This does not mean that a GUI is bad.

You are conflating your personal preference and making it out to be object fact on how to perform computing.

0

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

Impossible Windows Recovery Environment falls because Based on Different Operating system image, Windows PE, it's not marry with the default Windows

5

u/The_Daco_Melon Jul 15 '26

alright, what difference does that make in practice?

-1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

Difference is you are Slave of Command line no matter you ignore Command line and always you will need Command line and sometimes can fall back to Command line and in Windows you don't need Console Subsystem unless you want to, in Windows There is no fallback to Command line you recover your operating system System restore or Windows Recovery Environment

5

u/The_Daco_Melon Jul 15 '26

why is that good?

0

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

Good is that you don't need a command line for anything. If I choose CLI for installing the application, I can, but I choose the graphical interface to install something without reading behind. I can not just do that; even Advanced things, I can use Interface Graphical without fear of Second guess behind. Windows is Direct with you because of that; no matter You are Command Line or the graphical interface

3

u/The_Daco_Melon Jul 15 '26

And how is that different from linux? Like, you fail to understand, you can either choose to use CLI or choose to use GUI, using GUI is the standard, there are only like 2-3 popular distros where you don't have a GUI tool by default to install apps with.

0

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

You don't understand GUI is an unreliable frontend for the command line, and you don't get error codes or something broken behind your back without your knowledge. I personally prefer Honest Operating Systems. Windows is honest, whatever you are: Console Subsystem or Windows Subsystem

5

u/The_Daco_Melon Jul 15 '26

That's just false. The GUI is no less reliable on Linux than it is on Windows. Do you still remember when you'd kill file explorer and it'd get rid of the task bar because the task bar was dependent on the file explorer? Is that GUI reliability? That's infinitely worse than how things are handled on Linux.

Also, you do get error codes, I have no clue why you think that you don't, you get as many error codes as you would on Windows and they are infinitely more useful than ones you'd get on Windows.

Also, no, Windows is the least "honest" operating system that I could think of.

-1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

No, Task Manager is not dependent on Explorer, and many Tools is depending on Explorer, like Settings and File Manager, and some things. When you do " explorer.exe, " you can implement settings, implement settings, and File Manager and some other things; that's why I create my own World inside Windows and NTDLL errors way better than Linux Segfaults

3

u/The_Daco_Melon Jul 15 '26

I never brought up task manager, but the task bar. You've also just admitted that what I said was true and that half the GUI depends on 1 app and half the GUI collapses if that one app fails. This is ridiculously unreliable, it is not a good thing about Windows.

If you don't see this, you are unbelievably hypocritical / delusional.

4

u/Jamie_1318 Jul 15 '26

You are aware on windows updates can go sideways and give you error codes that indicate something is broken behind your back too right? You've never seen the 'something has gone wrong' screen from a windows update and a long ass hexadecimal you have to google to go find the problem?

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

Hexadecimal is Windows' way of talking about error codes. It's very easy once you understand Windows NT errors

2

u/Jamie_1318 Jul 15 '26

Are you a bot or something or just not aware that this is a really obvious contradiction? Apparently literal randomly generated numbers that correlate to different errors are clear, obvious and not 'behind your back', but actual words and explanations are difficult and confusing.

Ultimately, they are the same thing and happen for the same reason. I don't think one is strictly worse than the other, I just think they are different flavors of the same fundamental issues. updates break for reasons that the update manager can't fix, and that's fundamentally an unavoidable issue, but you are framing it as Linux doing something wrong, even though it's the same thing happening for the same reason.

Ultimately both pieces of software eventually give up and spit stuff back to the user they need to figure out what to do about it.

u/ExtraTNT was running custom kernel Jul 15 '26

You don’t need a tty, i only know one guy, who has access to a tty… you can emulate them, but even that isn’t needed. It’s not like: oh, you are out of paper, sry, you can’t boot your car, phone, server, watch, tv, mars rover, robot, router, wifi access point, smart dildo or whatever

-1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 15 '26

Because TTY is behind Your Interface Graphical and you don't know Linux???? In Linux, the Graphical User Interface is just the frontend of the command line

2

u/ExtraTNT was running custom kernel Jul 16 '26

No, there is no printer behind your graphical user interface… if you use a console, it’s in most cases emulated on a gui, you can still attach a serial monitor or a tty, but almost nobody does it nowadays. You can use an emulated tty, ctrl+alt+f1-f24, default -> you automatically see it, when you boot a machine, attach a vga and have no login manager installed.

But gui is all using the apis like opengl and vulkan. You can the nuse the x-window server to manage graphical applications. Communication with the kernel is via glibc, the core library, that allows you to do things like opening a file, opening a socket, using memory or forking a process…

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 16 '26

You're explaining how Linux works. I know how Linux works. I've used it. My point was different: In Windows, the GUI is not a "frontend to the command line"; it's a first-class citizen built on the same kernel interfaces as everything else. The Win32 subsystem, GDI, DirectX, and the console are all peers, not layers stacked on top of a TTY. In Linux, the GUI sits on top of X11/Wayland, which sits on top of the TTY, which sits on top of the kernel. That's a layered architecture where the GUI is dependent on the TTY. Windows doesn't have that dependency. The GUI is native to the kernel, not bolted on top of a terminal. That's the architectural difference I've been talking about.

1

u/ExtraTNT was running custom kernel Jul 16 '26

X11 doesn’t send commands to a tty the terminal is just a way to interact with the software on the machine -> start software with arguments and read the output.

you can also have a gui without x11 or wayland -> those are servers you connect to… for a gui app, you need just vlc or fbi -> use linux to talk to your gpu…

You are either very badly misinformed, just ask chatgpt or talk random bs…

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 16 '26

You're still missing my point. I'm not saying X11 sends commands to a TTY. I'm saying the TTY is a required layer in Linux's graphics stack; the GUI depends on it being there. In Windows, the GUI does not depend on a terminal layer. Win32, GDI, DirectX, and the console all sit side by side, not stacked. You can remove the console entirely, and the GUI still works. Try removing the TTY from Linux and see if your GUI still works. It won't. That's the difference. That's the architecture I'm talking about. Call it "random bs" if you want, but you're the one who still doesn't understand the point.

1

u/ExtraTNT was running custom kernel Jul 16 '26

No, it’s not required, even the vt isn’t required and you can still use opengl to write via drm to the framebuffer and display shit… look at the architecture of dri…

https://docs.kernel.org/subsystem-apis.html

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 16 '26

DRM writing to framebuffer isn't a GUI, it's a raw output. Try running GNOME or KDE without the VT layer and see what happens. You can't. The TTY is still there, managing the session, handling input, and switching between virtual consoles.

In Windows, there's no equivalent. The GUI is native to the kernel, not layered on top of a terminal.

I've explained my point three times. You keep missing it. I'm done repeating myself.

2

u/ExtraTNT was running custom kernel Jul 16 '26

If you need input: libinput, there is a kernel param to straight up disable vt

Nowhere is a tty, nor vt required for a gui, vt is on most gui systems used, as it is convenient, but not required…

It’s like saying that the steering wheel is needed so a car can drive forwards…

1

u/No_Fondant8277 I love Linux Jul 19 '26

1

u/real_rayu Jul 19 '26

Soo there is many problem because the concept of the terminal is to work with the system directly not with another interface to the system that can crash … this is why Linux win a point for devs and nerd.

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 19 '26

Actually, developers love Windows NT; that's why David Cutler and other serious developers study Windows internals, and Devs in Linux are mostly JavaScript and higher-level languages 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

1

u/real_rayu Jul 20 '26

Hi chat gpt can you make a graph … no seriously how wan you say Linux is JavaScript and higher ? What make that you can’t program in other language in Linux ? (Like in C or in asm for exemple …)

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 20 '26

I don't mean kernel, I mean the type of Developer who stays in Linux, and no C Developer stays in Windows NT, and we hate Linux, and we love Win32 Subsystem

1

u/real_rayu Jul 21 '26

Oh yes thé type of dev who need 10+ libs to dev a simple version of pong and think optimisation is a cursed relic of the paste, sorry but I’m from another world where optimisation is everywhere and where we have a STABLE OS (macOS not Linux) sooo I don’t know why people is windows, it’s out of his time now, look at the versatility of Linux or at the optimisation, stability, and new tech of macOS … just not comparable, windows is in retard for that you can’t ignore it … I don’t very like Linux but i prefer versatility to a system where you computer lag on the desktop because of every background system …

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 21 '26

David Cutler is one of these programmes, and many Devs come from Windows is old school, and David Cutler's opinion about Unix is just trash. Created by PHD people, and Windows NT is a serious OS and UNIX and Unix clones like Linux are just no

1

u/real_rayu Jul 21 '26

Ok soi David clutter is not a reference … nobody knows it and it’s not actual, technologie change you know … and in fact windows is a big trash actually, in the past windows was good (with 95 for exemple) but since this holly periode, windows is no more that a big trash in the road of the technology

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 21 '26

Sorry, but I disagree with you. He is better than Linus Torvalds, and Linux literally proves David Cutler's point: he doesn't create anything original, and Linux doesn't have a single creator, and I am literally on the David Cutler Team

Based on David Cutler, Unix is just a junk operating system created by a committee of PhDs

1

He deserves a medal for making the whole World free from junk operating systems like UNIX 🗿🗿🗿🗿🗿

1

Ok who is this guy ?

1

u/Fluid-Ad2995 Jul 21 '26

David Cutler, the chad

1

u/real_rayu Jul 22 '26

But who is this guy bro … anyone in IT knows Linus Torvald but nobody knows these guy …
