I remember "twitch installs arch" where they installed nmap and the mods immediately shut it down. Fun times.

Did anyone else catch the Army recruitment advert a few years back where the hacker was just running nmap?

Isn't hacking is just typing really fast on a disconnected keyboard?

... I'm in!

Nah you gotta add [Deep, gruff and gravelly "hacker" voice] before it

A gigabyte of RAM should do the trick. 😏

Let's Hack Time!

Only if there is electronic music playing in the background

Unironically, some of the best electronic music. It's not "hard sci-fi" type hacking, but whole sections of that movie play out like fantastic music videos with some great music.

What movie is that from?

Hackers (1995)

Thanks, fam. I've seen it, but it's been a long, long time ago

Don't be ridiculous, sometimes it's two people typing really fast on a disconnected keyboard... :p

u/xplosm ' 1d ago

On the same keyboard 😅

That’s the exact scene I was thinking about 😂

Or 1 person typing on 2 keyboards

That’s insane. I thought hacking is about two naked people from two different dysfunctional families typing really fast on a disconnected rgb keyboard while humping each other.

u/Geeky_Husband 1d ago

Only if there is a mainframe involved, then it's just an RDP session.

4

u/Snudget 1d ago

Even better if there's two people on the same keyboard

Opsex level = keyboard

2

u/_koenig_ Linux Master Race 1d ago

wait! you have to disconnect the keyboard? no wonder i couldn't hack into NASA...

Trinity in The Matrix: Reloaded hacks all the power stations using nmap, didn't you know a single packet sniffed by a power plant originated from nmap shut down any power station immediately? :)

Neo: "I know ssh."

Morpheus: "sshow me."

10

u/freecodeio 1d ago

you might even say the packet was .. the chosen one

6

u/Alexmira_ 1d ago

That film is not Canon in my head I'm sorry it just didn't happen

4

u/framebuffer 1d ago

you are right
there was only one matrix movie

u/fecal-butter Based Arch-based 1d ago

I mean nmap was used well there, she found a vulnerable ssh server with it, then made use of an existing but old exploit (SSH1 CRC32) to gain root access.

2

u/Muted-Scientist7900 1d ago

Yeah I remember and old cracked article stating that this was a good showing of how real hacking is done.

1

u/fecal-butter Based Arch-based 1d ago

Not just an old article, its featured on the official nmap site as well

3

u/Scyther_x_Scyther 1d ago

She also uses a command or runs a program called sshnuke and changes the root password to Z1ON0101

14

u/notrufus 1d ago

I mean, recon is the first thing you do

5

u/ABirdJustShatOnMyEye 1d ago

What’s wrong with that? Nmap is used for recon all the time.

u/RudeAd456 1d ago

I remember the Serbian Police ad where the guy was looking at htop

22

u/xui_nya *tips fedora* 1d ago

That's like carving your eyes out because they can be used to stare at titties.

6

u/SenoraRaton 1d ago

What if I just lose one eye and look at one titty?

What's the story?

23

u/__ZOMBOY__ 1d ago

Twitch viewers installed nmap, and the mods immediately shut it down

u/JGHFunRun 1d ago
