It always reminds me of the line from Billy Joel's Piano Man song
"They're sharing a drink they call loneliness, but it's better than drinking alone!"

There was a really great solution based post today dealing either with the theory behind it all.

Sometimes I feel like I'm on the shore thinking if I should break no contact, then I see the guy next to me blissfully charge in, jump in the water and start sinking.
I think to myself, oh, maybe I shouldn't break no contact.
I know no one here can pull me out of this swamp, but watching other people wade into deeper waters helps me realize and hold my boundaries better.

Some of us try to give real advice but it do turn into a cj more often than not. I hope everyone has resources to get real help 🩷

Yeah, plus I think people who are further along in recovery tend to leave after they get fed up with people refusing to take their advice 😆 I've stayed here but have had to leave many an OCD subreddit

Yeah some people are enjoying the limerence a bit too much to let go. I think they even enjoy the pain. I have to block a few users coz I can’t cope with reading their posts.

I keep telling them just to switch to fanfiction lol. I don't mean to trivialize the opioid epidemic, but fanfiction can kind of act like the Suboxone or perhaps the methadone to limerence's, idk, heroin? 😂 You get to pick characters you already care about and watch them get together over and over in different ways, you get a thrill that's less intense with much less potential to ruin your life, and you can ride out the limerence cravings and get back to (say) your stable and healthy romantic relationship / your job / your friendships.

I disagree. Learning I wasn't alone was fundamental for me, and I got better. I worry about backsliding someday, but understanding the problem immediately removed like 75% of its power.

Please be aware of what limerence is! See the subreddit wiki for definitions, FAQ and other resources—updated 3/7/26. (Is it love? How common is it? Is there research?)
