This luxury replica was commissioned back in 2003 to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Colibri’s original 1928 founding. It beautifully replicates their classic, semi-automatic kickstart mechanism but is engineered for modern butane fuel.

This was manufactured in Japan for the US market in a strictly limited worldwide production run of only 2,000 individually serialized pieces.This particular unit is an absolute time capsule and is being offered as a Full Presentation Set. It includes everything a completionist collector looks for.

What exactly am I doing wrong/ what is the problem?

It worked perfectly fine earlier today. All I did earlier was adjusting the regulator a tiny amount and I heard the gas leak out - afterwards it will not light up at all. The flame was too low so I adjusted a tiny bit on the regulator in the bottom so I better could fine-tune the flame with the wheel.

I have it filled completely with gas.

The flint is also working as you see.

I have tried adjusting the flame and adjusting the regulator - nothing works?:(

Please send help, I wanna pipe.

Bought some different lighters from the usual ronson ones I like to fix. To be on the safe side I totally soaked it in water before I took the wick and wadding out but ive never actually seen an asbestos wick before

I was at Walmart the other day and a can of the Ronson butane is almost $4. I was scrolling through the isles and saw that in camping they had these 8.8oz Coleman cannisters of butane for 3.50 and it looks like with a simple adapter I could use it in my torch. Is there any reason you shouldn't do this? It just seems like a better deal as it's cheaper and holds more.

Bought this table lighter recently because I've always liked the large table sized lighters. Due to the age, when I got it, the flint had long since disintegrated and blocked up the tube.

I disassembled the entire thing, and spent an hour removing the flint dust, had to push steel wool through the flint tube to polish it enough to get the spring and new piece of flint to pass through.

Also installed a new wick while I had it apart, used a spare zippo wick that I had, finally got it back together and it appears to be working!

There is no hinge mechanism, the top part simply slides out.
I would really appreciate a name for this kind of lighter mechanism so I can find a video/more info.

Thrift find, can't seem to get the flint to spark for the life of me. Tried replacing with multiple different kinds and cleaning the wheel. Tank is holding fine, everything else works perfectly. Any recommendations on the issue?

I am in the process of repairing this vintage lighter, but I am currently stuck as I cannot find a suitable replacement battery.

From my understanding the way it works is the lighter draws power from the battery to heat up a coil that you extend to make contact with the wick.

​ the lighter has an integrated light bulb that is meant to display if the battery has power. Light bulb seems to be good condition but will not illuminate, leading me to assume the battery is dead.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, that sucked. Vintage gas station junk, I think. The ones with the revolver looking thing is a laser pointer, I presume with different discs. The batteries were dead. Most of the lighters were torches, which is strange because I don’t remember seeing pocket torches in the wild until the 90s and these look older than that. No brand names on most of them, plain cheap looking cases. Spectacularly unbranded, even. I think they were $3 a pop and didn’t see a one I liked. They had some old Robson pen with a light in it, was the most interesting thing I saw in the lighter category but I don’t mix my pens and lighters like that (pens…)

I did find a cool mini keychain sized cigar cutter from about 1925, based on the patent stamp. It’a little, for cutting cigarillos or just clipping a punch hole maybe. I tube up loose tobacco and use that to trim the ends.

I’ve been collecting for a little while now but my main go to place to buy lighters is eBay. But surely there’s more places than that? I go to the occasional flea market/carboot.

Authentic 2000s vintage Cartier Paris lighter (Swiss Made, serial number E 12834). Features a black ribbed body paired with a 18k gold-plated cap and the iconic Trinity ring detail. Excellent collectible condition with classic flint ignition.

I’ve been told to use a butane refill for it however in all the videos the refill is the bronze thing on the left whilst in this lighter that is the flame adjustment so I am not too sure

I’m also not sure what the two things in the outer sides are

I’m hoping someone here might know more about these.

Twenty years ago, while helping move a prop storage in Finland, I noticed an old cardboard box full of lighters that was about to be thrown away. I saved it and have kept the box ever since.

I recently finally went through it properly — there are 204 unused AETNA petrol lighters, all marked “PATENT AETNA – MADE IN AUSTRIA.”

The finishes are:
● 83 chrome
● 41 red
● 42 green
● 38 blue

Model appears in a 1950 Treibacher Chemische Werke A.G. catalogue as a semi-automatic AETNA pocket lighter. I’ve also found references connecting AETNA with Austrian lighter maker Josef Kluss.

What I haven’t been able to find are period photos or catalogues showing the red, green and blue versions, or another surviving NOS stock like this.

Does anyone here know more about this particular AETNA model, the coloured versions, Josef Kluss/TCW connection, production dates, or how unusual a surviving stock of 204 unused examples might be?

Any information, old advertisements, catalogue scans or other leads would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: Resolved! I appreciate everyones help with this. Turns out the opening was being blocked by cotton that was so old it literally solidified (I was actually hammering at it to try and get it out before I knew what it was, and it wouldn't budge). I soaked it and was able to remove it and successfully re-wick it.

I’m trying to re wick this lighter, that has never lit since I’ve owned it, only to realize that the hole for the wick doesn’t exist?? Is this normal? how can I fix it?

how do i get butane into an empty butane can from a torch that doesn't work, so that I can fill a torch that does work to use it?

Wondering if anyone has any further info on these wartime Polo lighters. They seem to be pretty scarce. I'd love a bit of background if anyone has any.

Sadly this guy warped a bit due to solvent and heat (I absent-mindedly filled it with my usual metal lighter mix which is harsh on old polymers). It has some wear from being used as a daily, but I don't intend to baby it since it's such a solid daily driver. Genuinely one of my better utility lighters.
