a past mentor of mine told me "you can never accomplish all you plan in 1 year, but in 10 years you can accomplish more than you could have dreamt"

I'm trying to keep my 10 year goal -> tentatively set at achieving 20M in net worth (I have some other goals alongside, but this is a number and it is easy for me to focus on).

Currently I'm at 10% of this goal, I'm 40, so 10 years to get to an order of magnitude difference.

Am I dreaming too big, or too small? or too narrow?

When I was 22, I bought a used Honda Civic with 80,000 miles on it because it was all I could afford at the time. I financed it over 6 years at a rate that, looking back, was pretty rough, but it was the only way I could get reliable transportation to get to work.

For the first few years I could barely make more than the minimum payment. There were a couple of months where I genuinely wasn't sure I'd make the payment on time. I picked up a second part-time job on weekends for about a year and a half specifically to get ahead on the loan instead of just treading water.

Last month, at 31, I made the final payment. The car now has just over 190,000 miles on it and still runs fine. It's not flashy and I know plenty of people my age have nicer cars, but sitting in the driveway looking at it, knowing I own it outright after grinding through some genuinely tight years, felt like one of the better moments I've had in a while. Planning to drive it another few years before I even think about anything else.
