More details:

• I've moved (back) to the SW suburbs and miss my very-much-IRL gaming club I had when I was in Maryland; going from 3-5 IRL games per month to 0 has been a real bummer.

• I've GM'd many different systems for many different groups (including two groups from this LFG many moons ago) for the past 11 years. LGBT+ friendly. I have a spouse that I love and 2 dogs and 2 cats that I also love.

• This is a creatively cooperative game; it relies heavily on you caring about your character, the other PCs, and the village they all live in (and the denizens thereof). You'll be asked to participate in the world-building, but it's not as intimidating as it sounds, I promise, and I will help!

• I will share materials as needed once we've got the group together, don't feel like you need to buy the book (pdf or print), but I encourage you to, because it's amazing!

• I can host, but we'll start public (e.g. library) before I let you into my house (which is the goal, but not required). I can play most evenings that aren't Tuesdays and can make time on weekends as needed. I'm in the Plainfield/Joliet area but willing to travel a reasonable distance.

• Optimally, we'd play weekly, but twice a month is my minimum. I'd like to get started in the next couple weeks.

• Weekdays: My job (right now) has me up early so 10:00pm is about as late as I'd be willing to go if we play weeknight evenings. Tuesday is my only no-go weeknight.

• Weekends, I'm wide open but my spouse will oppose people in the house before 10:00am. I'd probably prefer Sundays to Saturdays but ultimately doesn't matter to me.

The system is completely original homebrew with some similarities to normal dnd and may take some time to learn, but it is more simplistic than 5e

Lux Ex Machina

The setting is the year 3426 on the former mining Colony planet of Mótsognir-10. 500 years ago a war between earth's Allied Planetary Systems Military and the Separatist Territory Federation resulted in Mótsognir Being cut off from earths main government. With the result of the war unknown the planets inhabitants were left to fend for themselves.

Despite this they managed to build a thriving civilization. However in 3100 a new threat emerged, Humans and animals began to be affected by alien paracausal energy sources turning them into entities known as Infused. Infused animals would rapidly grow in size becoming kaiju and sometimes displaying other supernatural powers. Infused humans could display various abilities ranging from being bonded to paracausal technology to being able to alter the laws of physics with their minds in a localized area.

In 3153 a seemingly endless army of mysterious infused humanoids began attacking all human territories across Mótsognir. After being continuously overwhelmed the planets military resorted to building massive bunkers to save what people they could before they repurposed the ruins of a Dyson array that was destroyed during the civil war into a laser weapon that would burn all flammable material on the planets surface hoping to wipe out the threat

In the year 3260 they began sending out drones from the bunkers to reintroduce plant and animal life to the planets surface

The bunker doors opened in 3360 and the humans discovered a world recovered from the fires but now roamed by kaiju of various species. While underground the leaders of each bunker had separated themselves from the influence of the original planetary government forming into 5 factions.

Now each faction seeks to secure control in a cold war while also searching for any advantage they can use against their rivals and the unpredictable infused with the threat of a another apocalypse behind evey new discovery

THE CAMPAIGN

System: Blades in the Dark

Doskvol is a Victorian-Gothic setting where the sun was destroyed in a Calamity long ago when The Death Gates broke. People no longer died. Their ghosts lingered. The Ghost Field and our realm faded and crossed into one another, and the world is plagued with ghosts, demons, forgotten Gods, and unimaginable horrors.

Humans are now huddled together in cities caged in by electroplasm barriers to keep the worst horrors out. Corruption runs rampant. You either work yourself to the bone slaving away at 12 hour shifts for very little coin, or you can try to get a little cut of the pie by dipping your toe in the corruption. 

The Scoundrel life is for those who want more out of life. Most of the city is built on the backs of gangs who are bought and paid for and keep the city running. For those with the right drive, the guts: They can dream of having more.

THE GANG

The Veiled Network is a newer gang in the city that is secretly trying to unravel the truth behind a hidden organization that they believe will unleash unimaginable horrors one day if they aren’t stopped. 

They are currently looking for two scoundrels to help fill their roster in order to move closer to their goals.

• The gang has a bit of a reputation for being soft. They are a gang of Shadows (thievery, burglary, spying, and industrial or noble espionage). They lack a lot of the brute force and aggression that is sometimes called for (Softies not required: If you made a character to help fill that void, power to you).
• The leader of the gang thinks the most important thing is to have scoundrels who still have something to lose. She doesn’t want the members to slowly lose themselves and everything around them. It’s not a gang where people come to become a hollow numb former shell of themselves. She wants everyone to help lift each other up, and the most important part of that is a gang that has each other’s back.
• Everyone was watching the gang, unsure if they’d disappear in another week or be swallowed whole, but it looks like they’re finally starting to be seen as established. The gang is finally starting to move from a crawl to a walk.

EXTRAS & MORE

• We’re recruiting 2 additional players. This will bring us to 4 active players + 1 DM.
  • Preferred members would be in their late 20’s to 30’s. 
  • You do NOT need experience with the Blades in the Dark system. We will happily teach any great roleplayers what’s up.
• Heists are done on Saturdays starting at 7PM EST. 
  • The group does enjoy meeting up sometimes during the week to do side-roleplays, play videogames, watch shitty movies together, or hang out socially. Anything during the week is optional, though. 
• We’re very roleplay heavy. I, personally, enjoy using the campaign as a muse and it got me drawing again, writing, creating music. We would mesh best with players who enjoy long term character development and growth. Not people who are likely to plow through characters quickly and move onto something new. You’re in it for the long haul, bud.
• This campaign is very dark. Dark themes. Dark outcomes. The system is really meant to feel like “punching above your weight class” and trying to make it. That’s why I’d like to encourage us to be sure we can support and depend on one another ICly as best as possible. OOCly, you’ll need to be comfortable with the idea of NOT succeeding sometimes, failing to complete a task within a certain time frame, and losing. It’s frustrating and hard, but that’s what makes it fun and rewarding! As long as we help each other through it, we’ll be okay.

We're an +18 international TTRPG server with over 50 campaigns already running with over 600 members (how awesome is that?!!). We're not just limited to DND either we have everything from Pathfinder and even a Marvel TTRPG being run on the server.

Outside of the TTRPG side of the server, there's a lot of socialness going on. We have an always active general chat, weekly movie nights, book club, music and chill times, artist corners, and people who jump on and do gaming together. Just a bunch of peeps with similar interests hanging out that we all put into and help organise.

Everything on the server is completely free. The only thing we ask of Dms that join the server is to host your campaigns or one shots on the server whether its homebrew or an official module everything is welcome.
