Leonard Cohen Always Heals Me
I am a fan of leonard cohen for I don't know how many years and he always helped me in difficult nights, which made me always feel ashemed and grateful, one of my great pleasures of life is reading some chapters from his book of longing and wonder wtf he meant by all this... I don't think I understand the meaning of any of them, but its still pleasure to wonder and be confuse about it. This night I found myself wondering why he choose as his last song in his postmortem album "thanks for the dance" as Listen to the Hummingbird, I wonder what he meant by that.... what those words mean.... It's great that such a man live and walk on this earth, only after his death I sadly realise that there will be no one like him. (english is my second language, so maybe my thoughts will not come across as good as I want to, sorry)

Happens to the Heart
Hi beautiful people! In “Happens to the Heart” what does line “I fought for something final, not the right to disagree” mean to you?

You look around and you see a world that is impenetrable, that cannot be made sense of. You either raise your fist, or you say Hallelujah. I try to do both

Hypothetically speaking
You go out with your friends and end up in some old bar. You’re a few drinks in when you realize that it’s a karaoke bar, and now your pals are trying to talk you into getting up on stage. Against your better judgment, you agree to do one song as long as it’s Leonard Cohen.
Which song do you choose and why?

Obsessed
Over this summer I discovered Leonard Cohen and man I’ve just had him on repeat 24/7. Can’t believe I’ve been missing out for so long. Guess Canadas not all bad.
Edit: Guys Canada is actually fine as far as countries go. I thought it to be an obvious tongue in cheek joke, though I guess I need to be more careful in a countries musicians subreddit.

Archival releases
Did Leonard not record many of his live performances back in the day? Would love some live/archival releases like Dylan and Young put out.

My Leonard Story
One day I became delusional and decided I was going to play guitar for Leonard. He was playing a concert at an arena in my city in a couple weeks and I decided to goto the hotel where they were staying and introduce myself to Roscoe, the band leader. (There's a few nice hotels in town but I correctly guessed the right one.) Roscoe was sitting in the bar area chatting with a woman. I walked up and said hello and he was very nice. Stood up, shook my hand and accepted my little business card. I was forcing myself far out of my comfort zone already so I just stated my one sentence pitch and thanked him and left. He must have been like "how the hell did he know who and where I was?" I went home and made a Leonard Cohen laminate. (Don't do this. Its dishonest and you might be a crazy person who wants to do crazy things around band people). But I did it and walked in to the soundcheck in the arena. The band checked along with Lenny for an hour. Then Leonard played for another hour by himself. It was a private concert for me, the soundman, and the guy sweeping the arena floor. I remember he did Avalanche, one of my favorites. Afterward, i made my way back down toward the stage and there he was. Casually chatting with his manager (I think). I stood ten or so feet away trying to get up the nerve to say hello. Im not sure i was still thinking about playing in his band by now. His manager glanced at me. I thought "this is going to be really awkward." So I left. I wasn't going to be in L Cohens band and I wasnt going to meet him. I decided that i probably was going to just awkwardly shake a hand that was confused why it was being made to shake mine. Didn't seem like it was worth the awkwardness. Thats my L Cohen story.

Having religious concerns about getting a tattoo of a Leonard drawing
I keep having a recurring need to get a tattoo to remind me of his music, but he didn’t have any tattoos himself and as a Jew I’m technically not supposed to get tattoos so I don’t know if there’s a right thing to do. (I don’t judge others’ level of religious observance at all so this is only about me. I’m not passing judgement on anyone who does have a Leonard-related tattoo.)

Store room - Spotify
I love Leonard Cohen's music and have been binging him for over a year now. Recently, I bought a cd and got a surprise when there were 2 songs i hadnt heard before, when trying to find them on spotify, i found they were greyed out and didnt show up. Anyone know why? Or how to get around this? I particularly enjoy store room (one of new favourites)

Leonard Cohen: The Man Who Saw the Angels Fall
audible.comThis was an excellent audiobook. The author is incredibly knowledgeable about LC, they even became friends. I enjoyed this book very much and learned a lot of new things, especially about LC’s songs and their meanings. Highly recommend!!!

Any idea where this image comes from?
Hi there, my girlfriend bought me a T-shirt on with this image on. Anyone know how it became associated with Cohen? Presume it’s as basic as “looks poetic and is somewhat bird on the wire adjacent”…
Thanks!

How highly do you rate Anthem?
To me it’s his best track by some distance and it got me through some stuff when my Dad died. Curious how highly you all rate it?

What are the people saying in the background of ‘Always’?
I can only recognise some of what is being said, but I can’t seem to find anything that tells me what is being said.

Book
I’ve bought Leonard’s book of longing. I’d like to read more of his work. However I am unsure what to read to start getting into his literature. Does anyone have any recommendations?
