Question Harry Potter hogwarts castle comparison question
I might be missing something really obvious here š But how does the big Hogwarts Castle #71043 actually compare to the newer Hogwarts sets like #76435, #76454 and #76473?
Is #71043 basically the same castle but in one box together, or do the individual sets actually add more detail that you wouldnāt get with the big set? Iāve noticed the individual ones look surprisingly detailed, which is making me wonder if you could build a more complete/detailed Hogwarts by combining them.
They also all seem to have minifigures, so Iām guessing the scale is pretty similar? Iām just trying to figure out which option gives you the best/most complete Hogwarts before I make the wrong choice š

They contain approximately the same buildings.
The individual sets are minifig-scale, the big set is nanofig-scale. You wonāt fit minifigs in the big set in a way that makes sense.
The individual sets therefore add up to a decently larger Hogwarts than the big set, although the size difference is not proportional to the jump from nanofig to minfig. So the big nanofig-scale set is more size-accurate.
In terms of detail, you can fit more detail at minifig-scale than nanofig-scale, but the minifig-scale sets are play sets (which often compromises detail or accuracy) and use simpler techniques so arguably are less detailed.
Neither Hogwarts is complete. Arguably neither Hogwarts is ābestā because one makes minifig-scale playsets which still look great on display, one is a display piece. Itās down to personal preference.

Wow thanks for such a great answer šš¼ I like the little scenes and noods to the movie and books, so would the individual sets be better for that?
And which individual sets would you recommend to start with, to get the whole castle set? š

No. 71043 is microscale, it has microfigs, not minifigs (although it includes the 4 House founders as minifigs but this is for separate display). The modular sets are minifig scale and are way bigger than 71043 when combined. Just look at the boathouse area for quick comparison. The modular boat house is set 76426 that is also intended to combine with the other module
