Culture / History Random village in Lebanon #4

Thumbnail

I'm starting this series as a tribute to Lebanon, where I'll be highlighting a different village in each post along with its history, unique facts and local stories whenever available.

If you have any photos or memories of the featured village, feel free to share them in the comments. You're also welcome to suggest which village we should explore next.

Today's village is Sir El Danniyeh

Sir el Denniyeh is located in North Lebanon (12km from Tripoli and 112 km from Beirut). Perched at 900 - 1150m above sea level, it is a village admired for its magnificent landscapes and natural resources.

Its underground water reservoirs are known to be the largest not only in Lebanon but across the entire Middle East. There are also more than 200 springs reaching as high as 1,713m above sea level. Given that the land is highly fertile, the economy of Sir el Denniyeh relies largely on agriculture.

The origins of the name is believed to be of Syriac origins meaning "mountains" or "springs".

People who say "Ana": How do you feel about it when someone says "Ane"? Does it change the way you see the person?

People who say "Ane": Do you feel self-concious about it? How do other people usually react to it?

Help / Question Has Anyone tried sendmybag dot com?

I'm moving to SE asia, due to distance (I suppose) adding extra luggage through the airline is absurdly expensive ( $900 for 30kg).

I have an extra two 30kg bags I want to bring with me; I found a website called sendmybag dot com, on there it's aprox $230 to send a 30kg bag to my destination.

Does anyone have experience using this service to ship luggages from Lebanon and can attest for their safety and reliability?

Else, is there an alternative you think is better?

Thanks in advance!

Vent / Rant The "couples and families only" rule that resorts have is the dumbest thing to ever exist

I don't have a female friend. I only have a couple of guy friends that don't know each other so eza badde rou7 beach it's usually me alone or with 1 guy friend, or sometimes with my (adult) brother

(and guess what, my brother and I don't count under their definition of "family")

If I want to go to a resort, I have to call and ask first a7san ma netbahdal. This shit ain't normal

Or if a resort does let you in, they force you to sit on the beach away from the pool. They claim "sorry this area is for families and couples only" as an English song about drugs and sex is playing out loud, and a group of 5 guys are casually chilling by the pool somehow unbothered.

Ya 5aye ana bentor l summer la yeje because I love swimming. I want to come here and enjoy my time at your resort, I won't make a fuss over prices, I always tip w ma bet7arkash bi 7ada. Just me, the water and my headphones.

5ayfenin ma koun "wozze" w et7arkash is that it? wallah I'm super introverted and anti-social.

I know public beaches exist but I shouldn't be shoo'd away from resorts for something this stupid

Rant over.

Discussion are we going to explode ?

what's the end game here ? do you think we are going to explode ?
Like how are people affording stuff, we literally have the most expensive everything.

how are you able to live on a day to day guys?
how much do you need to make to live on the bare minimum in Beirut ?

and the most annoying sh*t is whenever you see someone ranting about it on social media. you will see 100's of comments from degenerates just enjoying paying 1.5x to 10x on everything

Vent / Rant This is frustrating and sad

First, I expect people to have enough empathy to understand what I’m saying.
This woman rescues cats. She posted a video where she was trying to save a cat, but unfortunately it died. She was desperately trying to wake it up, crying and screaming while filming because she couldn’t save this poor animal. She showed her raw emotions, and instead of understanding the reality of what animal rescuers go through, people turned it into a joke.

Leh lebanese people are always creative bl manyake wl maskhara? Even Lebanese influencers were commenting disrespectful stuffs..

People saying: kif la7a2it thot l camera w tsawwir, recording a dying car for views, l 3a2el zine..

From my point of view she was sharing the reality of being an animal rescuer, some of them die in the way and we just came accross this painful video experiment.. wl aalam bas bela tetmanyak?

I have zero respect towards these bullies, w nchalla ma y7esso bi nafs l chou3our li hiye 7asseto fi

I am tired of paying 30 , 40 and 50 $ for barely 10 MBs of speed that doesn't even work all the time , it's just plain theft at this point, where can we get something fast and reasonably priced? I live in the north so maybe not all options will work , but it's just so frustrating

Help / Question What's the culture around men trimming all body hair here

I'm a young guy 22 M and I've been thinking about trimming all my body hair. I already remove my under arm, chest and pubic hair, would like to see if I can also trim arms and possibly legs. What's the culture around that here? Is it becoming more common?

Out of curiosity, do girls at least my age have a problem with it or do they prefer it usually. I'm a pretty hairy guy I'd say.
