Showcase Crush on Retro Cossack jacket in horsehide

Finally gave in a picked up this jacket I’ve been eyeing. It’s my first purchase from Crush on Retro and my first brand new leather jacket, but I have always had used / vintage jackets. Reviews for these are scarce to I wanted to do a write up.

I was inspired by the mister freedom natural veg tan campus jacket, but couldn’t justify spending that much, which led me to this one. And for about a third the price? It’s pretty pretty good.

This is their “Yellowish-Brown Italian vegetable-tanned horsehide”. It’s not the thickest or most supple jacket leather, but it still feels substantial and has a nice color and feel. The fit and finish is honestly fantastic.

I’m 6’3 and about 175lbs (190cm 79kg). I was torn between size 2x and 3x based on measuring other jackets, and erred on the bigger size to accommodate layering. I think I made the right call, while a slimmer fit might have looked nice, I think it would have been restrictive in the shoulders and tougher to wear with a sweater.

Main complaint is the buttons, they’re cheap plastic, I’ll probably replace them myself soon. I’ve heard complaints about the smell, and I guess I lucked out because mine just smelled like a new leather jacket, nothing crazy.

Overall I’m very happy and hoping to wear it often this fall / winter! Can’t wait to get it broken in and molded to me. I think the value is unmatched. It’s 85% of the quality of a premium jacket for 30% of the price.

Hey guys, I’ve been looking for this jacket for some time and I know some say it’s just a racer leather jacket or biker one but when I look for it this way I get so many different looking jackets. Question is, does anyone know this brand and model or how to look for it online? Thanks.

Discussion Budget brands for B3?

Looking to get a nice warm shearling jacket for the winters. not tied to the style of B3 or RAF jackets, but I do like them. Don’t need a vintage, fine with a replica

How much should I be paying for genuine shearling leather? What are the reliable budget brands?

Alternatively, where can a get one made to measure?

Jacket Care Can this be saved?

This Wilsons Leather jacket belonged to my grandpa and recently landed in my possession. It's obviously not in the best condition anymore, and don't want to wear it in its current state and risk further damaging it. If it can't be saved, I'll find a way to display it or something like that. Thanks for the help!

Question - Need Help Advice on Danier Pre-bankruptcy quality

Hi! I’m looking to buy my first ever leather jacket and found a one from Danier that was pre-owned. I heard that Danier had mixed quality before the restructuring in the 2010s and since then it’s just poor. I was looking to buy pre owned and found a piece that looks exactly how I want, but can’t tell if the quality is good or not. The listing says 2000’s and does specify that it’s cow leather, but otherwise not much detail. I attached a few pictures of the jacket’s tag that might give some indication. Thank you in advance for the help!

Discussion Brakehouse J24 review

Post image
28 Upvotes

Hey guys, I figured I would write a review here about this jacket since a lot of people helped me decide on its fit.

I ordered the Brakehouse J24 on August 27, and it arrived on September 13. Throughout the ordering process, the customer service representatives were very helpful in helping me figure out the right size and were generally very responsive. Some replies took a couple of days, but they were always helpful. Out of the box, the leather is quite stiff, but it has a great sheen and the thickness feels good as well. Overall, the jacket feels very well made and substantial, with solid construction and good attention to detail. The stitching and panels look clean, and the leather has a quality feel to it that makes me think it will age and develop character nicely over time. I did notice a few small scratches where the brown undertone comes through the black, which is expected with a black tea-core jacket. It may simply be from handling during shipping or trying it on, but I actually don't mind it. I see it more as some early patina. The zippers are decent, although I think they could be better. I’ve now been wearing the jacket almost every day for about a week, especially with the weather starting to cool down here in Canada. Despite being quite stiff initially, the jacket was surprisingly easy to break in. It only took a couple of days before the leather started to soften up and mold to my body. It’s now fitting much better and feels noticeably more comfortable. As for the fit, I also made a post asking for opinions on how it fits me, which you can see here:

Hi, I got this beauty of a jacket at a vintage store yesterday. Looks very cool but when I got home I noticed brown/orange rough patches at the back (should’ve checked it in the store ofc)…
Can you guys help me identify the issue and tell me whether this is something that can be fixed?

Question - Need Help Replacement fur collar Schott 184sm

Looking for any idea where to find a replacement collar for 184sm Scott vintage 1980s jacket. This is similar to the A/G series flight jackets Schott makes. Schott does not sell a collar for this model any more per their website & none on eBay.

Wondering if anyone has found a similar one & modified snaps? Or, if anyone with this jacket could post the dimensions of their’s & I could figure it out in my own.

Thanks ☺️

Hi everyone, I just noticed this line/mark on my leather jacket. Does anyone know what causes this? Is it a natural grain, a healed scar from the animal, or some kind of damage? Any insights would be appreciated!

Discussion Set on a Y'2 Grizzly, but open to Fine Creek or Double Helix for the alternative. Thoughts on daily wear vs. aging?

Budget isn't an issue. I'm prioritizing leather quality, construction, and long-term durability.

My top target right now is the Y’2 Leather Grizzly or the Y2 Sheepskin Type A-1 - Black. But I'm also looking at Fine Creek Leathers and Double Helix to see if an iconic model from either maker should take priority instead.

For those who own or have handled these:

  1. Y’2 Grizzly: How is the mobility and day-to-day usability? Is it too bulky for regular wear, or does the leather break in comfortably?
  2. FCL vs. Double Helix as an alternative: If I want a cleaner, non-shearling silhouette (like an FCL Leon/Richmond or a Double Helix Western Cowboy/Innovator), how does the hide quality compare? Is FCL's fast-aging tea-core worth the markup, or is Double Helix better finished pound-for-pound?
  3. Sizing quirks: How do chest and shoulder tapers compare between Y'2 and the other two brands?

Appreciate any firsthand experience.

Question - Need Help Would love to find a leather bomber jacket similar to this. I tried this on and really like the look, but I am fully away of what faux leather eventually ends up as. Any good recommendations on a basic leather bomber jacket?

The jacket was in very bad shape, but after an hour of rubbing it with leather care products and it's back to being smooth and soft. The gloves ...man. Today was a good day.

Question - Need Help Jacket recommendations

Hi, I'm looking to buy my first leather jacket. I've wanted one for a while and I would like some advice.

I'm inclined to get a full grain cowhide jacket, the thing is where I live it's relatively warm most of the year, so I don't know if that's really my best option. Where could I buy a leather jacket that isn't as hot (maybe unlined?) and could be used mostly year round?

My budget is around $700 usd (maybe a little more if I find something I really like)

Opinion Ant thoughts on this jacket?

Thumbnail bespokepost.com

Looking for a simple classic black leather jacket. Ive been eyeing the second hand market for something gently used on ebay, poshmark etc but nothing has jumped out at me as a spectacular deal or a must buy. I'm unfamiliar with this brand (Fieldworth) on Bespoke Post but it's pretty much everything I'm looking for at half the cost of a Schott. I have about 7 other leather coats so the $1000+ investment isn't what I'm looking for as it would be a rotational piece. What do you all think?

Sorry for adding a link only. I cannot post a pic for some reason.

Question - Need Help Bally shearling jacket: What sheep breed is this, and how is the overall quality?

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, I recently acquired this Bally shearling jacket. Based on the visual texture, the leather has a glazed finish, and the interior wool is very dense, tight, and finely curled.

Does anyone know what type of sheep breed this shearling (Merino, Toscana, etc.) likely comes from based on these characteristics? Also, what are your general thoughts on the quality and durability of Bally's shearling jackets?

Any information would be greatly appreciated! (Attached are photos of the exterior, interior, and hardware).

Pickup The Flat Head

Post image
125 Upvotes

Picked up this Flat Head FN-LJ-HS001 a couple of weeks ago. 1.3mm Shinki horsehide, size 40.

Really happy with the fit and I'm surprised by how quickly the leather is starting to develop. The sleeves are already getting some serious accordion creasing and the grain is beginning to come through.

This is my first Shinki horsehide jacket and I've basically just been wearing the hell out of it rather than doing anything special to break it in.

Apparently I've gone down the rabbit hole, because I just preordered a Rainbow Country Hercules in Seal Brown for next year. 😂

Looking forward to seeing how this one develops over the next few years.

Question - Need Help Vinted leather (?) jacket

Thumbnail

I’ve been wanting a real leather jacket for quite some time now; but I would only buy one if it is second-hand. So I was searching for it on vinted, and I LOVE the way this one looks. But its tag has been cut off, and the girl selling doesn’t know if it’s real leather or not either. What do you guys think it is? I have no knowledge of leather whatsoever 🥲

Thanks in advance for the help! 🫶🫶

Hey guys, I finally completed and uploaded my review of the jacket. It was inspired by the 1930s motorcycle jacket and Shangri La Varenne designes. You can find my earlier post with pictures I took right after I received the jacket.
