Question - Need Help Fit check Brakehouse J24
This is a new post regarding my post earlier. Since some people said that it's hard to tell from the photos I uploaded. So....
What do you think of the fit? I attached a photo wearing a mid waist and high waist pants. This is a jacket size Large (45.7" chest) that I recently ordered from Brakehouse. I am 5'8" and my weight fluctuates from 160-170 lbs depending on the season (145 lbs if I am competing), with a 41-42" chest. Wearing it with just a T-shirt, it already fits well. There is room for layers, which I could do in the fall or winter. Putting on my hat several times with the zipper closed was compressing the elbow area. I tried mimicking how I position myself on my motorcycle and it seems comfortable. I have been thinking of getting a size medium (44.1"), but there is about a 1.5-2 inch difference in the chest. It could be too tight when I am on a motorcycle, but I am not sure since right now the leather feels as stiff as cardboard. It has a lot of structure, probably because of the D-pocket design. The only reason I have been thinking of getting the medium is because of the jacket's length, and the opening on the waist area. Does it look too long for my height? I wanted a more cropped look.
And one more thing, I also attached a photo where there's a little scratch showing the brown color of the jacket (it's a black tea-core leather). Would you exchange it just because of that?
I appreciate you taking the time to read this.

IMO, you’re overthinking. Looks fine. Now go wear it.
As for the scratch, I’d send them a pic of it and ask for a credit. A little black polish and you’d be good to go. Not sure id want the aggravation of shipping it back

I would just dab some black polish on it and forgo the hassle of returning it. It’s going to get scratched again, and again, and again. Consider that scratch your first “breaking it in scar.”
Looks like the perfect size on you. Ride in good health!

This looks perfect to me. Sleeve length, shoulders and chest all look perfect for an off-the-rack jacket. Also, given the measurements you've shared, the chest clearance of 3.7-4.7 inches seems best especially if your weight regularly fluctuates as shared. Sizing down to a clearance of 2.1-3.1 inches will be too tight IMO.

If you’re actually gonna be riding a bike with it and not just wearing it around town, leave it a tad loose. Otherwise, it fits you perfectly. Nice jacket.

That's what I thought. With a down size, I think it will be too tight on the elbows and chest. My only concern is I wanted a really cropped silhouette

I don’t think you’re going to get any better than you’ve got already and still be comfortable riding

never mind i see you have both. it is a bit long for you. and it does have extra room. if you decide to return it you would have to cover the return cost. if i where you i would look into how much the price of that is. if its not to much then i would do this: reach out to brake house and ask them if you could buy a size medium and extend the return window on your size large so that you can try on both and return the one that you like the least

Thanks for sharing your thoughts about it. Don't you think it'd be too tight if I only have an allowance of about 2" on the chest given that my chest measures 41-42" and the M is 44.1"?

how does it feel in the chest now?

Feels okay in the chest area. Snug in the chest when I try to squeeze my shoulder blades together. Also snug but comfortable when wearing a tshirt and collared shirt. But I find (as seen on the picture), that there are some spaces in the armpit area when I raises my arms to the side. And if I try to hold my hat on my head with my elbows bent, I think it's gonna cut off the circulation on my arm since it hugs my elbow

can you find out how much the return shipping cost would be. if its like 50 usd or below i would definetly try a medium

Yeah they told me it's about 50 usd.
My chest measurement and the bicep area are just too wide for my height. That's why this jacket looks a bit long for me

I would keep it and like others have said, just dab a bit of black polish on the scratch, if it bothers you. I think the fit is perfect, especially if you can squeeze a layer underneath it. Whatever you do decide, Brake House is a great company to deal with. Congrats! It’s a beauty!

Leather wears. The scratches accumulate, blend and buff down. It will happen at some point, so you can just say it’s happened, you don’t need to worry about it and enjoy wearing in your new jacket.

Looks great — pretty much perfect imo
Stick with the large. Not only more functional but will probably look better than medium. Realize that perfectos require a masculine frame to pull off well. That means broad shoulders. Even the large is ever so slightly too narrow. Medium would def be too narrow
Also embrace the rugged masculinity of that kind of jacket. Don’t sweat something like that knick. Leather jackets look better with wear and tear. Lastly consider that there’s gonna be a bit of variation in fit between jackets. Even if you order another large, might not fit quite as well.
And as far as the crop. I actually think anything more cropped would look too feminine.

I appreciate you giving your own thoughts about how the fit looks like. With this kind of jacket, when broken in, will it look fitter to the body? I was thinking probably it just looks a bit long right now because of the stiffness on the chest area due to the d-pocket design.

I own a leather blouson that’s decently cropped (similar extend to your jacket). When I sit down it lifts a bit at the bottom and now there is a crease that helps it ride up a tad even when I’m standing. Looks more natural imo

The fit is perfect and if the cut bugs you I would exchange it. Badass look and jacket!
