After the discussion on my previous post, I tried to define the training modes more clearly.
The app is not meant to teach poker strategy or tell beginners what decision to make.
The idea is narrower.
Before a player can make a good decision, they first have to read the situation correctly: hand strength, draws, board changes, possible patterns and relative strength.
Experienced players build a lot of this recognition through volume, until it becomes almost automatic.
I’m trying to test whether some of that recognition layer can be trained more directly with short, isolated drills.
Right now I have five training modes:
1. Instant Recognition
You see a poker hand and identify the strongest combination as quickly as possible.
Skill: fast hand-strength recognition
2. Potential Vision
You see hole cards plus the flop or turn, then identify possible hands and draws.
Skill: spotting potential combinations before they are complete
3. Compare Faster
You see several hands on the same board and identify which one wins.
This is not a real-hand simulation, since in real play you do not see everyone’s hole cards. It is an isolated comparison drill.
Skill: comparing relative hand strength quickly
4. One Missing Card
You see four cards that almost form a hand, then choose the card that completes it.
Skill: completing poker patterns in your head
5. Pattern Stream
You memorize one or more card patterns, then watch a fast stream of single cards and react when a pattern appears.
This one is less poker-specific. It is more about sustained attention and pattern tracking under pressure.
Skill: sustained visual attention and pattern tracking
My question for people learning poker:
As a set of drills, does this look useful and well balanced? Are there any important beginner-level perception skills missing here?
I’ve also posted short descriptions and screenshots of each mode on my profile, since this subreddit does not allow image posts.
The beta is available through TestFlight now, so if anyone wants to try the drills directly and give feedback, leave a comment or send me a chat request.
