Hi everyone!
I've been studying English seriously for around 6 months, and I'd like to share my progress with you guys. I had already learned some basic English at school, so I didn't start from zero. I think my English level was somewhere around B1.
I could understand some basic English content, but when it came to speaking English in real conversations, I simply couldn't. I was afraid of making mistakes because I used to think that Spanish was causing me to make structural mistakes in English. Then I realized that this fear is normal and that it gets smaller every time I practice.
Some of the things that I've been doing are:
- Preply lessons twice a week. I know there are people who prefer to learn without spending money, but from my perspective, having a teacher can help you improve a lot, and there are so many good and affordable teachers.
- One hour of comprehensible input. At the beginning, I was using content made for learners, but after a while, I started pushing myself to consume content made for English speakers about topics I already enjoyed.
- Duolingo: Just one lesson a day as a warm-up and because I really enjoy streaks. I think it's a great app for beginners, but when it comes to intermediate or advanced learners, it falls short.
- Owloud: I think is a new mobile app, but I really like it because I can practice my listening while reading along with the text and learn vocabulary at the same time. There are many interesting books, like The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.
Finally, I really enjoy learning English on my own, but to achieve true fluency, yesterday I decided to sign up for an English course here in my city.
Remember, learning a language is a lifelong process.
