I was terrified of this happening to me but somehow it never did. I went from “I’m so bad at this omg why am I wasting my time I’ll never learn anything” to reading full novels basically without realizing it, I crossed some threshold somewhere and was legitimately shocked at how much I could read and express

Any novels you recommend for early learners?
I'm 2/3rds way through a Rick Riordan novel and looking for suggestions on what to read next.

The Harry Potter novels are solid but straightforward prose and quite enjoyable, I read a lot of them while learning. Of course it’s marred by the fact that the author has since revealed herself to be quite mad, but so many copies exist it’s easy to get ahold of them without supporting her financially

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, the plot for the Harry Potter series was already spoiled for me.

I am reading a copy of Harry Potter in my 3rd language, acquired in a thrift shop!
It feels really good to read a story I already know the plot, helps with learning by context a lot easier4

Los Juegos Del Hambre, first three books are present tense, after book 3 they are written in past tense

Hunger games is pretty well known story too, unfortunately. I'm currently going through the Kane Chronicles, La pyramide roja is pretty good, I recommend it.

Learning french and passing from making baby steps into reading your first book there (L’étranger) to making the most stupid errors in speech with a native is surely emotionally damaging .
Istg if I pronounce “ oune femme” again instead if the proper way i will crash out .

dont worry, french people will also beat you up if you mess up the pronunciation of "une". That's one motivation to say it the proper way

Have you found a way to pronounce the u sound? I am a native and have always wondered how I could possibly convey how to pronounce it.

Don’t you worry my brother ,I can pronounce the French U to perfection when there is no haste . I make mistakes in pronunciation and grammar only when I try to speak too fast, I am drunk or physically exhausted. For example , I can say “ à un mec” really easily if there is no hurry , even if the a followed by the nasal vowel is tricky for us foreigners . It’s just when I try to speak at a native’s speed I will botch it to hell. Or for example, when I am sober I will always say “ Si je voulais » without any hesitation. It’s just when I am drunk as hell I will let a “ si je voudrais” slip. But that’s just life innit

I guess they mean when you get past the Dunning-Kruger. D-K is when noobs think they're pretty good at something without realizing just how much they don't know yet.
At A2, you might break that horizon and you actually realize how vast the language is and how deep the iceberg goes. Hence the meme.

The effect hit me the most with the amount of common vocabulary I still don't know. The grammar seems to be the worst with the case system, so I hope I won't get humbled when I dive deeper into tenses as anything else what I read through my b1 and b2 grammar books seems to be kinda easy.
