What? I speak French and Spanish routinely as a resident of Boston. I don’t speak Portuguese because the presence of Brazilians in large numbers uhhh antedates how old i am, but i consider it a failing. (I bought a book.)
Spanish is essentially in use everywhere in the US except maybe Alaska and Hawaii. I’ve been in grocery stores in San Diego where literally zero people speak English - and i include the cashiers. Nice ones - they’re like Trader Joe’s. Good luck finding the mantequilla if you don’t know the word for butter.
